Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

2016 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch

dee-luded

Among the late flurry of Phantom Drafts now that we're only one sleep away from the least anticipated draft in history from an MFC viewpoint -

Callum Twomey's 2016 Phantom Draft

Draft picks: 47, 68 (likely to use two selections)

I wonder if CT reads Demonland?

"After dominating the top of the past two drafts, the Demons will take a back seat this year with two later picks. The Dees have shown some interest in St Kevin's College product Oli Hanrahan despite not playing in the TAC Cup system. They have pulled a similar rein before (remember Jayden Hunt in 2013?). Some think Melbourne might need to add to its small forwards department, which could see the Dees have a look at West Australian product Liam Ryan, or maybe South Australian pair Kym LeBois or Tyson Stengle. A bid on Pies father-son pick Josh Daicos isn't out of the question at 47 either. Ruckman Oscar McInerney has caught the interest of many clubs and has been under the Dees' nose at the Casey Scorpions this year, but appears unlikely to be taken by Melbourne."

Yes, which team will be the first to utter "we could not believe he was available at our pick" this year?

My money is on the Dons with Hugh McCluggage!

Are you Titus O'Reilly?

No don't care this year.

I'm still looking forward to it. I usually find the later picks more intriguing anyway. Never know who is going to pop up. Also looking forward to some uncut gems from the rookie draft. You know, the Jace Bode, Jayden Hunt, Tom McDonald, Josh Tynan and Davis types. Some make it and its great - but if they don't it doesn't break your heart like a Cook or Gysberts.

On the watchlist... Andrew McGrath - Sandringham Dragons/ Brighton Grammar.

Smart fast powerful runner. Athletics background. Two weeks ago, he got 44 possessions playing across half back. One to watch. From the same junior program (East Sandringham) that produced Chris Judd. Not dissimilar !

TAC Cup | Two-sport teen on track for AFL shot

pick #1... from obscurity.

Not even in many top 50 in May.

He will be a Star.

In effect, the two players we drafted weren't on the radar of the so called "experts". Neither of them made it on any of the phantom drafts that I've seen - the picks seem to be left of field.

Have we taken risks with our selections?

Maybe we have done another "Vanders" drafting  Hannan from Footscray's Premiership Team and we snatched Johnstone from under the nose of the Bulldogs where he has their nominated Category B rookie? Nothing wrong with keeping an eye on the opposition, especially the opposition garnered two Premierships this year, as the underdog. Now the rookie draft is even more interesting tomorrow.

When your list improves you start to look for a smokie or some X factor with late picks. Alternatively you try and fill a need.

Hannan is a bit left field and a risk. He's 22 and played 18 VFL games for only 20 goals. But I'm not convinced he was a needs selection as much as others are. He improved a lot as the VFL season went on and looks like he was still playing a lot of deep forward. He was best on in the A grade ammo's grand final in 2015 as a midfielder and I'm sure the club was watching then. He reminds me of  Howe whom a lot of people thought was drafted as a 3rd tall forward but eventually became a handy (if disgruntled) intercept marker. I think Hannan is a long term prospect who might eventually settle on a wing or as a true utility.

Johnstone looks like a needs selection at the back end of the draft making sure we've got another small forward and getting the one we wanted. I expect the rookie picks to be similar today.

Very early for a trade rumour but stuff it. Tim Taranto who was drafted by GWS with pick 2 is/was a massive Demons fan and still yearns to play for the Dees. Now that usually means nothing for most kids when they get to a club and especially when they play some games but most kids don't end up at GWS deep in the pecking order in Western Sydney. Taranto was apparently such a Dees fan he had to be talked out of getting a demons tattoo. Only 21 months until he's out of contract, I'd have the offer to him already.

Been there, done that. Juddy was also a big Demon fan who wore his jumper with #3 on the back to his junior club games every Sunday. Didn't help.

Each person is different.

I could be pretty confident that the Hawks didn't make their pitches to Jaeger and Tom Mitchell just before they got them.

Actually same as Judd, who was going to the Blues, probably a year before he actually played for them.

Judd never got the 3 tattooed on his back. No commitment. I like this Taranto already.

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the
