Crossy staying on!

Featured Replies

Great news just been confirmed on triple m website as a rehab coach.

On ya Crossy!

Just read it. Rapt for him and very happy for us.

Well done MFC

Absolutely wrapped with this.

Good to see he wanted to stay with the boys he has played with the last two years.

Cross remains with club in off-field role

Announced a couple of hours ago...

Slower than usual, DD ;)

Good article and pleased that he obviously has faith in where we are headed. Shame that he won't pull on the boots for Casey but we are putting together a very strong group in our FD, especially now that McCartney is staying!

Love this, his influence to the young players with regard to preparation and what is expected onfield is invaluable and his influence will remain at the club

Excellent news.
It's good to see as well that we weren't the only option available to him. He could see we are going places.

Well, my criticism of the "retirement" has been effectively deflated.

Keep good footy heads around the club is always great.

Good luck on his new career!

I'm so pleased we have managed to retain this highly respected and experienced campaigner at the club. It speaks volumes about how this club is proceeding to claw back it's rightful place in the league. That a person like Cross believes in the club makes me feel really happy. Oh happy day !!!!!!

Great news, great for him, and great for our developing players.

And waiting in the wings for a late call-up when/if Melksham gets banned for a year.

when melksham gets banned the afl may allow us to temporarily play him (like with essendrugs in nab cup)

Being the runner would help the team as well.

really, the runner, hmmn. OK

well I guess that counts out a rookie spot then. thought he could teach onfield with the kids, & we may be able to get him that 250th game during the season.

anyway, all good news.

Absolutely delighted to read this.

Couldn't imagine anyone better to be the runner in 2016 - any message delivered by Crossy would be heavily franked with credibility & inspiration.

Will also be invaluable for younger recruits by introducing them to what level of dedication & commitment is required of a successful modern day player.

Great appointment by the Club

I am less cross about this retirement now (terrible pun, sorry!)

So glad that this incredibly well respected and professional athlete is sticking around to help our up and coming list get the best out of themselves.

Great news! Love him.

The other side to this coin as I note it is the idea that Cross would want to stick around. I see that in itself as a huge endorsement for us going forward.

When player alumni of his order pronounce a belief and act upon it those that respect him will be similarly infected. Bodes well.

Cross gets Stretch's vote: “Crossy has been awesome. He’s played in a similar role to me throughout the year on the wing and through the midfield and down back as well. I’ve just tried to be a sponge this year; I wanted to take as much as I can from the experienced players in the team,"http://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/2015-10-07/cross-a-great-role-model-stretch

Sounds like Stretch has settled in really well and good to see his professionalism.

Viney gets a big tick from Stretch as well: "Stretch also credited some of the “younger guys coming through” like Jack Viney with providing support and guidance to the first year players"

Finally, some role models the newbies can learn from and look up to.

Being the runner would help the team as well.

Especially if he could pull off a few intercept marks in defense, am still sad he's not there next year playing.

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.
