Talked to Pederson on way home yesterday, [he got off train at the G]. He said Frost was right to go this week but they decided to put him away for the year.

So Frost will get a full preseason and be right for next year.

Newton will be good for us next year with 90 rotations due to being good up forward as well as on the midfield.

4 qtr effort, picked up 6 disposals in the last qtr.

Another to play well again. His hands in tight were sharp and quick.

Newton came to the club with a reputation for hard tackling and contested work. I haven't seen that at all, but think he could be useful as small forward depth. We can't rely on Garlett playing 22 games again next year. He managed a goal a game this year (same amount of goals for the year as Dawes, with less games) and could have kicked 5-6 with better accuracy yesterday. That's where his future lies. He looks substandard as a proper AFL mid.

It would be more his opponent running away from him...the way forward lines are structured these days he doesn't fit at either end of the ground.

Watched the game today and I thought Newton was one of our weak spots. He kicked some nice goals but he fumbled a lot, dropped marks he should have taken and I see him as a back up player. The player who impressed me was Harmes. Now there's some material to work with. Great, clean hands and a tank and heart to go with it.

I feel sorry for Grimes, ex captain, now just a turnover specialist.

At least we now have some definite A grade talent: Hogan, Vince, Salem, Brayshaw, Jones when he's not just bullocking, and Gawn can be fantastic. Stretch is potentially A grade and Garlett is a friggin genius.

The McDonald boys are exciting: pity about Tom's propensity to pass the ball to the opposition. Mitchie's disposal is very good, hand and foot skills are nearly A grade.

Next year might be fun with Tyson, Frost, Petracca and Trengove to come back. And then there's the icing, that Sherman Tank called Vanden Berg.

Not sure why you compared Garlett to Dawes as Garlett is streets ahead:

Garlett: 22 games, 40 goals, average 1.8.

Career average: 1.7 per game

Dawes: 14 games, 11 goals, average 0.8

Career average: 1.1 per game

Jeff kicks 35-45 goals every year and there is no reason why he can't play 22 games for a few years yet.

Dawes can't even get on the park let alone kick goals.

Of all the mids on our list (excluding Petracca), Newton seems like the most legitimate forward/mid. He's a player that could add a lot when the team's playing well. And we desperately need players that can hit the scoreboard regularly.

Like what Dunn has to offer as a CHF with Hogan deep.

Hogan's best position is CHF. Forget worrying about who else can play there.

It was a dead rubber, at Docklands, against the Giants, on Fathers Day at 1pm after a terrible month of footy.

All that is perfectly logical but is that what supporting your team is all about ? I had a blast . The "terrible" crowd screamed their heads off and I was still buzzing exchanging texts with sister "JUDEE" at 2am !

Bit surprised how everyone has got carried away with what was virtually an exhibition game with both teams playing predominantly kids.

But it was certainly nice to see that our ten players 21 and under more than matched their youngest 10.

It was also nice to see the way that Harmes is progressing - basically his form means we don't have to worry about drafting a small forward this year because we have the following options - Garlett, Vanders, Petracca, Kent and now Harmes and I haven't even had to mention JKH, but I see him as a more likely wing or defender because he lacks explosive pace, but clearly has a good tank.

I had a close look at Tomlinson and Plowman - who we are supposedly keen to recruit.

Tomlinson's disposal was very ordinary to be honest - he is no guarantee of being better than Dawesy.

Plowman showed a bit of pace when on Hoges and may just need a new environment - worth considering if Col was to leave or maybe as a direct swap for Howey.

im by no means suggesting he is a necessary inclusion OD hence the "if staying on" qualification. Probably should have said if he coninues on and is included in the 22 on match day. If we do the CHB only for mine.

I think it was a protest on three fronts, one the form of the last month, another about being a home game not at our home ground, and thirdly being smack bang in the middle of Fathers day. No way I was going on the last alone.

The crowd was around what I expected, but I still think it's disappointing that barely a fifth of people who paid for memberships (even though membership numbers aren't very reliable indicators these days) end up coming for the final home game, for whatever reason it may be. That's a lot who've dropped off and I think those who are buying memberships should do so with attending every game in mind. Given our recent history no one should be appalled at how the season has panned out.

I'm overseas as well, can't wait to watch the replay.

But it's still a ton of people who paid for a membership and didn't attend our final home (winnable) game. I get how emotional our fans are but you should be used to disappointment enough (if you are a multiple year member) that you're prepared for a dead rubber in the final round.

I get that argument

Most disappointingly was that it had to be R23 against GWS as that's a pretty big slap in the face to our members from the AFL.

I recall..I think it was when the 2013 fixture was released, the club was vocal with disdain for the AFL after they scheduled a home game at Etihad when they had specifically requested not to be given one. However we were quiet the next year when we got another Etihad home game and I'm guessing it had something to do with the AFL handout we received beforehand. So you can imagine the club feels at the AFL's mercy now when it comes to scheduling, so I'm not sure if we can avoid another game there next year
