Watt's going on?

There may be worse players than Watts for skill but most have a bit more guts than Jack. This player along with Howe,Garland,Dawes are not going to help us win a flag let alone get into the finals and the only reason they didn't get culled last year because there was plenty of cull fodder in front of them. Apart from dropping himself (weird) this is the second time he has been made an emergency, what sort of crap is that? I once said that COLIN SYLVIA was a waste of time and yet I constantly copped flak from certain people,Jack

Watts is going the way of the doddo bird. At one stage I stuck up for him but no more.

Hmmmm.... Dawes helped Collingwood win a flag. Just sayin.

give it a break mattjm, you're repetition is becoming boring

besides we've all heard the same stuff endlessly before, here

Sorry, but 'giving it a break' doesn't win flags

Watts dropped ,Natanui starring.

Il admit I was wrong, it's finally time to say Nic Nat is the better player.

Geez ,imagine having Nic Nat and Wines instead of Watts and Toumpas.

All true - but Natanui would have retreated back to his native WA within 4 years of being drafted - guaranteed.

At least Wattsy stuck by us and signed a long contract during the height of our incompetence.

Observers with no clue say Nick Nat is an athlete with no football ability. I havent seen nick nat been dropped or wear a sub vest ever...

I have no dislike for jack. I judge him as a footballer and he currently isnt in the top 200 of the afl. If he cant get a game for us after 3-4 coaches and 7 years in the system in one of the worst teams in the comp then what am i missing???

When was the last time jack made all australian?

When was the last time jack took a contested screamer?

When was the last time jack laid a bone crunching tackle?

When was the last time jack physically made repeat 2nd and 3rd efforts?

When was the last time jack slotted a goal after the siren to win a game?

When was the last time jack used his big frame to advantage?

When was the last time jack won a hard ball centre clearance and pumped the pill inside 50?

When was the last time jack dominated a position (btw he still doesnt have one) or influenced the way the game is played...

face facts guys, he is in the sylvia and morton category. Its time to take off your rose coloured glasses.

Here is a thought for you - imagine how shyte he would be if he copped a tag every week!!!

Get rid of him, toump, howe. These type of players have been the root of our problems for a decade..

Let's progress with players who regularly have a crack - hogan, kent, brayshaw, viney, n.jones, tyson, salem, vince, mcdonald, jetta, even Vandenberg...

I care and am a realist about our players and list. unfortunately the pool is shallow.

Watching WC tonight - can't argue with any of that. Nic Nat wouldn'ta have stayed, but he's a much better <footballer> than Watts at AFL level. Never thought I'd say that.

Hypothetical. Didn't seem to be an issue when drafting hogan

When was the last time jack took a contested screamer? - If I recall he did that against WC. Over the top of NicNat in fact. It wasn't paid, but it was more of a mark than many we have seen paid during the season. At least he controlled it and came down with it in his hands.

In our team asking for any one of our players to be AA or influence the way the game is played is farcical. What we need is players who use the ball well and don't kick up-and-under all the time. It's very easy to pick on Watts, but the fact is last week he was our third best tackler behind Viney and Vince, he was fourth for 1%s and our third best scoring option. Two of those categories are the areas we are constantly after him to improve. Watts isn't an A grade star, but he's a solid contributor and we certainly need more who can kick like he can.

if you read properly i actually mentioned over a dozen

I did. There were over a dozen references to someone called Jack though - did rather stand out.

Nick Nat was drafted to a 2nd bottom team. He kills jack in all of the above CONSISTENTLY.

Ps. Jack got dropped after last week's performance so it kinda makes your argument invalid

To be fair, I doubt he would have had many other options.

Natanui is a better player, but Watts possesses some fantastic skills that Naitanui will never have. I've made my peace with the whole situation and hope Jack stays at the MFC. Unless the right deal comes along, of course.

When Watts was drafted a good mate if mine who coached Jack in the Victorian side told me that we had made a huge mistake.

He said then that Jack was skill full but weak and not made of the right stuff.

He also said he had a good carnival before we drafted him as had the best players kicking it to him and just had a purple patch getting on the end of a few.

I always gave Jack the benefit of the doubt and hoped he proved my mate wrong, but four years later and all he said has eventuated.

So did he tell you this four years ago or when Watts was drafted??

I would wish him well at another club, and i know his career has been stalled at MFC, but its so clear to all that he just doesn't have it in him... why is it so hard for people to admit it?

Yes he did, he was adamant then.

He was the forward line coach of Vic Metro at the time.

I would to...in fact, I hope he does go elsewhere to escape this constant bullshirt.

NicNat was drafted to one of the best sides in the league who tanked for a couple of seasons to refresh their list before stepping straight back into the top eight.

As for Jack's being dropped negating my points, I fail to see how that conclusion can be reached. Our selections for most of the year have been nonsensical. Players have been dropped for no rational reason, and others promoted who shouldn't have been. It's been an ongoing theme with the team all year, and one that has both puzzled and frustrated many of us. I have repeatedly pointed out that Roos has failed to stick to his word that he would drop players who don't perform and promote those who earn a chance.

He was drafted 7 years ago that's all.

Edit: wasn't doubting you DZ was just clarifying when he told you this.

Amazing 7 years ago wow , that's certainly enough time to gauge his output then, seemed like four to me, must've been seven....gone very quick.

Probably feels like 27 years for Watts.

If Watts goes he will continue to play the way he is now. Soft, half ass efforts and the occasional good effort.

Hes had about 388474 in his career, whats the next one gonna do any better? At the end of the day its up to Jack whether he wants to take his game to another level.

another Colin Sylvia story coming up.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
