Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

The Diet

Like anything, doing something to the extreme isn't great but I'm sure most people can cut back on bread, pasta and sugar it and will do them good.

Spot on. As Daisy said, horses for courses. I've been on it for 3 1/2 weeks. I've lost 6kg's so I'm losing around 1.6kg's a week. I'm eating some limited diary and other bits and pieces. It's working beyond fine for me. In this time energy levels are definitely up, I don't suffer energy lags mid morning and mid arvo. Those energy lags are gone. I'm losing weight at a nice even rate. I ride 2-4 times a week and my performance has significantly improved. Hard to say how much of that is directly attributable to the diet as loss of weight has a really big impact anyway. You don't have to be a complete slave to it for it to make a huge difference. I have read that MFC will still do some carb loading before games anyway.

Don't close the thread I've actually really enjoyed some of the discussion and I'm thinking of converting to a "semi" paleo diet to give it a run. Probably won't stick to strict diet but will try and cut out bread/Pasta/rice and sugars as much as possible.

Some of the links to recipes etc have been great also, I went and loaded up on some ingredients before and am going to give the home made Granola a run, we'll see how it goes. I've been eating Sanitariums Granola with Vanilla oat clusters and love it but it's got added sugar and I'm assuming it's a fair bit. Also the grains etc full of carbs so I'll try this one out and see if it works for me.

  • 2 weeks later...

I've just seen a couple of documentaries Re the Paleo diet & a couple of TV series which discussed this diet. & even Professors in Diabetes say the carb diet is a No-No for diabetics, or type 2 diabetes sufferers, they all should ease up on Carbs.

they all seem in alignment, cut down on the Carbs & watch the weight drop away. but do not stop eating the greens. this cutting carbs seems to aid the Liver & the Pancreas to start recovery?

  • 4 weeks later...

I cut out/significantly reduced my bread/Pasta/rice/refined sugar intake and started doing some exercise 3/4 mornings a week in December. Exercise wasn't too strenuous half an hour on the exercise bike and some weights.

I didn't weigh myself before however I think it's safe to say I lost at least 5kg and up to 8kg within a matter of weeks. Christmas/New Years put a damper on it as I stopped exercising though I still tried to keep an eye on diet and have maybe put back on a kilo or two but still keeping the weight off. Need to lose another 10 or so kilos ideally so gotta get the motivation up to start exercising again but I actually felt great and had more energy when exercising and eating less of the heavy floury foods.

Was drinking a lot of water too which helped probably 2.5 litres a day.

Whenever I read about the emphasis on meat in the human diet I just look at my incisors and compare them to my dog's.

we kill the food before tearing into it.... they tear into it as its still running before bringing it down & munching away.

we have all rounders teeth. we can survive in most environments, with or without meat.. imo, our biggest downfall is saying enough... sustainable isn't in our appetites vocabulary in modern times.

Serious question dc! What diet is best to keep you in the blue rinser saddle? I realize the 80 plus group probably tire easily but what about the 60 year old " young uns" . Do you go paleo or load up on the carbs ( plus Biffs additives) . Is the MICA team on standby?

i don't think medications count as a diet bbo

but as i alluded to before a mars bar gives a quick energy rush (but as you know comes with great responsibility)

& IF you need a break between sets, either have a Kit-Kat, or take up art

Low GI carbs have a more enduring effect, for those who are interested.

looks like even Raffa has gone Paleo over the off-season

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the
