Here's a player whose name keeps coming up but rarely among the absolute top echelon of the draft and yet the comparison with Jordan Lewis makes him an interesting possibility ~ Rhys Mathieson.

According to this preview, Mathieson will "probably never be in that absolute A grade" but he's a ready made player. We don't know at this stage what Melbourne will do with its first pick but this bloke sounds like he might be of interest.

He might rack up the ball but he fumbles way too much and is not clean enough. If you want that big inside midfielder then Francis or Curnow would be my pick.

He is basically another Matt Crouch. And you will only have to see last night that he will always rack em up but is horrendous by foot.

The write up sounds a bit like the ones they did on Ollie Wines a few years ago. Nobody really knew well how that sort of player might translate in the transition to senior elite football.

I'm a big fan, on what little I have seen, would love for us to take him with our pick. I hope the recruiters are looking closely at this guy.

Matt Crouch was in Adelaide's best last night surely, Adelaide won that game in the midfield and he was a massive part of that, so if your saying Matheison is another Matt Crouch then we should be considering him pretty hard, clearly a Matt Crouch isn't the ideal type of mid that we want, obviously that type is a Dangerfield ( break the lines, explosive, goal kicking midfielder, his possession winner, hard contested midfielder ) but their doesn't seem to be any of them in the draft.

Massive part of it? Lol rubbish.. crows fans are saying how bad his disposal was and that was his biggest downfall in the under 18s. Burnt the ball badly last night. Mathieson is in that category that his disposal is a big worry. He is just simply not clean. No point racking up 25 disposal when 20 of them go to the opposition. Cant see Melbourne drafting him at all. The kids we have drafted since Taylor took over have all been noted for their kid kkicking skill.

Admittedly it was a youtube clip but he likes the up and under kick. Whoever we go for, let's ensure they can kick.

A hard-working midfielder who doesn't take the ball cleanly with his first grab and is prone to high bombs? That basically summarises everything wrong with our midfield on our off days. A firm no for me.

You do realise that there is more to an afl player than just their level of kicking...look at the rest of his game..look and think broader.

Of course. But any recruiter will tell you though one of the biggest strength a player needs is kicking. Having watched Mathieson he doesn't have.

Seriously ask yourself why bring in a player with dodgy disposal. Far more better prospects out there then Mathieson. In fact i think he will slide our of top 10 personally.

Have to agree.

2 examples are Sheed & Dustan who were both good inside players in the 18's. Personally thought they were vanilla types who would give good service which is what Mathieson is touted as. The big difference is both were pretty good users of the ball.

If he doesn't use the ball well now then he will struggle at AFL level...

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to
