The Please Don't Recruit Him Thread

Unfortunately Ernest, it's our lack of brilliance, particularly in the backline, that is hurting us. We seriously need some class and creativity in the backline, and Yarran can provide that. The way he is playing at Carlton/Northern Blues is not too dissimilar to Garlett. You can tell that he doesn't want to be there, and that will drive his price down.

I can remember a time not so long ago when Garlett and Yarran were the envy of most other clubs as fast exciting players. I could see that happening again. Especially if they were together again creating magic.

Aish. And I say that as an absolute worshipper of his blood-line and believe he'll become a handy footballer in time. Just don't want it to be our time and money impatiently angsting for it to eventually happen. Wrong time, wrong place.

1) Tom Lynch

2) Players who cannot break into their current sides like Michie, Riley and Newton

Unless they're from GWS?

For those who don't want Yarran, and I'm one of them, I want you to pray to any God you believe in that he ends up at the Tigers. He is just the sort of player who will make enough laughable mistakes and cost the Tigers enough games to keep many in the league very, very happy.

Do it Chris. Do us all a favour and head to Tigerland.

Get a strong sense from their own mob that if Motlop moves it may be to Punt Rd. Would they take both?

Yarran is an interesting case. Has talent to burn and maybe in the right environment could flourish again. Look how Jeffy has become a favourite quite quickly.

Would rather Roos take a punt and try to develop someone who has pace, aggression and skill then someone who only possesses one of the three attributes.

Would rather him on our list than Michie or Newton.

Funny, cos Geelong think it's them or Adelaide, based on what Motlop says he wants.

I dare say you know a great deal more than me Mach. Like actual facts. And that's consistent with what I've read. Just a couple comments from Tigers' players recently that suggested they knew the club were after him and there was more than just hope. Probably reading into the tea-leaves it too much.

Nathan Vardy.

Heffernan

Steffaan, let him go to the pies, he can join Rene Kink in business there.... & maybe we could then grab Brodie Grundy down the track.

Yes Yes and Yes, Yarran fired up and focused is a matchwinner! Much better than Newton and Michie combined!!! A giant Tick from me!

I prefer Salem running off half back to Yarran. Salem will hopefully be a much better footballer than Yarran, and I rate Yarran.

Save the money and give it to Salem when he's got a couple more pre-seasons under his belt.

Keep developing our own talent.

Matthew Stokes

Stokes. FGS, a very average player that was lifted in a decent team.

Matt Suckling - More style than substance.

Luke Breust would kick 13 goals as a permanent in our forward line.

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.

With just over two weeks until their opening match of the 2026 AFL Premiership season, the Demons are already well on the path to redemption and have the Saints firmly in their sights ahead of their mid-March clash at the MCG. What do you think the team will look like when they run out on to the G?

Mars is not usually a place known for lighting strikes but on Friday evening it happened twice in the vicinity of the stadium in Ballarat that carries the name and is a half completed building site with limited capacity for spectators.
