I hope this helps to silence those who question Roos commitment to the Club. He is not perfect nor the Messiah but I believe he is emotionally invested in our future success and we will be all the better for his long term involvement.

This is how garbage gets such a long half-life - he has said in the past that he wants to balance his life more with the wishes of his family but I have never, since he came to the club, have developed the impression that he would 'love us and then leave us.' He has never been the personality to do that.

When he talks about the future - we want to hear involvement, but he knows that Goodwin wants to hear separation and a relent of control. Different audiences will interpret different scenarios to the same words.

I may have worded it badly but I was trying to say the same as you about life balance and for him family and Hawaii were part of the picture.

Many roles could be there for Roos post coaching, like mentoring players,helping recruitment of players ( he is impressive ), development of players, assisting list management etc.

I need some strength in resolve, some accountability that we will improve.

Roos needs to put his reputation on the line. This has been something he has never fully done with us since the beginning.

By only committing to three years max, my concern wasn't whether Roos would be a competent coach but rather he didn't have the confidence in himself that he could get the job done.

He didn't want to tarnish his reputation as the 'messiah'.

Every time I hear him talk it feels like someone frantically protecting his reputation.

I look forward to Goodwin being coach, not because he'll be a better coach then Roos but because he'll have to to put his reputation on the line.

He'll have no choice, his reputation and coaching future will depend on his results at Melbourne and that will make him ravenous in his pursuit of excellence.

Its the old theory of fight or flight, Roos doesn't have to fight for his future or reputation merely preserve it.

I believe that if this was Roos first coaching gig you'd see a more hungry Roos who would never put out the excuses he has, he'd be more ruthless at selection and ultimately I think the side would be performing better.

For me this experiment has been a huge disappointment thus far and no where near worth the 4.5 million dollar investment.

What he is saying is that the amount he is being paid is irrelevant, and unless you have a flux capacutor and a DeLorean you can't go back and appoint someone else to compare how they would be doing in comparison to Roos. There are also about a billion facets of this discussion that we as supporters cannot be aware of. Regardless, he is coaching one more year and one more year only so the discussion is a complete waste of time.

I can't find the article mid where Roos said after 2016 that was it, he was off to Hawaii etc etc. Also, mid year he was quoted as expressing doubt beyond 2016. This is the first time he has clearly said he actually wants to stay and be quite passionate about it. I love that he loves the club!

Whatever his coaching limitations that DL want to focus on, having him in our corner for a few more years will be invaluable. If for no other benefit than his eye for assessing players and input to list management/drafting/recruiting/trading!

Hopefully, PJ signs up for a few more years as well.

He definitely said it 'rpfc', pretty sure it was on 360 but he said he was done and dusted at the end of 2016.

It's good to hear he's had a rethink or maybe a good discussion on his role going forward.

Roos greatest assets will come to light in his last year. I honestly believe we are right in the mix for some great footballers who are being hypnotised by PR in these last weeks of the season. I agree he seemingly has a blase match day look and Ive nearly given up the ghost but I think there will be great signings at the end of the year.

And he has done that. We may not be on fire or the next big thing right now but he has made our club hopefully one of the respected ones again.

I hope and believe when Roos leaves in 2016 our on field situation might not be perfect but he has set up a club which will achieve success. And if Franky is on the money that may come sooner rather then later

PS - I would like to add I don't believe in all this Roos needs to achieve a xxx wins result to get the job done. I expect our On field and off field structures and programs to be set up to grow and lead Brayshaw, Hogan, stretch, Petracca, T Mac, viney and co to have long successful careers at our club

People continue to question Roos... The reality is you can't rebuild an entire footy club which had the worst list & expect to be fixed in 2 seasons!

Bomber Thompson took him around 7-8 seasons to win s flag & create a power house club... That's 7-8 seasons of drafting,developing & culture...

The inconsistency at the moment is the most frustrating as we have dropped a couple we should have won but in saying that we won a couple we probably shouldn't have.

As much as we're carrying a few older blokes we need the experience to bring through the younger boys which is another reason why Roos may not be as successful as we hoped. I think it's safe to say Roos may not be the messiah but he is the first step on a long road.

And for what its worth I think he's been worth the money - he's brought stability, direction, development and time will tell but I hope a base for success

Can you see past your nose jnr, or does your negativity and willingness to sink the boots in blind you to everything else?

No coach is perfect. It's perfectly okay for a coach to be taken by surprise on occasion of how their players play, and that works both ways. I'm always reminded of us beating the Lions up at the GABBA in 2002 when they were flying - I bet Matthews didn't see that comeback coming and he was powerless to do anything about it. Roos obviously made a few mistakes at the selection table, no doubt about it, but he isn't the first or last coach to not see something coming. It happened to him when was with the Swans when we belted them at the MCG. Whatever he put in place in tactics and preparation obviously didn't work and he wouldn't have seen a loss like that coming. It happens.

Clearly what Roos has in place CAN work. We don't need to go over the excellent wins we've had this year, but they are wins against clubs that we haven't beaten in a long time. People go back to the Bailey days and how we won games then, but all I ever remember is beating up on interstate teams at the MCG. Roos has a gameplan in place that, when executed properly, can match it very well with opposition sides. That's proof you can't deny.

But I get it with you jnr. You are selfish, impatient and blind to what is really going on. Your like a 5 year old supporter who wants everything now and can't see what is really going on. Roos has us well and truly headed in the right direction. He was never, ever going to be our next premiership coach. Not even our next finals coach really. He was hired to put the club on the right path and set us up for long term success. Goodwin is the man who will hopefully reap those rewards.

I've used this quote before, but Roos is planting a tree that's shade he'll never sit under and enjoy. Someone like Goodwin will do that. But thank all that is holy we got Roos as I don't think there was anyone else capable, outside of someone like Clarkson, who could put right the horrible mismanagement of our club that had been in place for too long.

• knocked off Collingwood and Geelong in the season and
• moved ahead of Carlton and the Dons in terms of premiership windows
• doubled our wins (almost every year)
• stabalised the clubs losses and
• introduced and properly developed genuine new talent and
• set up a development environment such thats it's as good as any in the AFL
• etc...

then they'd have been right about what he's done.

I think 2016 could be a "Cinderella Story" but am keeping those thoughts on the down low...

I have always had the impression that Roos wants to be around the club in some capacity beyond 2016.

It was about all clubs, football in general.

Not looking for it, just happy that he has flagged his intention to stay involved. Roos is not just good for us on the football side of things but will be very important with the corporates.

The only serious question will be " How would you like to be involved after you finish coaching?"

Personally I would be very surprised if he stays on. He has aged considerably since joining and looks completely spent. Coaching the MFC seems to have that effect on most and Roos has been in the kitchen for a while now off and on. He might be involved in some capacity but if at all it would most probably be in a very minor background role.

I am happy with what Roos has done so far. We have a platform to spring from now. When he started and at the end of last season we didn't have that base... we were always going to struggle again this season.

There is a chance to shoot up the ladder in 2016 a la Port in 2013.
