DEE fence 5,076 Posted July 16, 2015 Posted July 16, 2015 Buckley is going pretty well imo. I don't mind him as a coach. Buckley is close to my favourite part of AFL 360
Straight Sets Simon 23,113 Posted July 16, 2015 Posted July 16, 2015 Buckley is close to my favourite part of AFL 360 I much prefer to listen to Buckley than Roos.
praha 11,308 Posted July 16, 2015 Posted July 16, 2015 I think it would be in his best interests to stay at Melbourne. He's getting the apprenticeship he needs and has the capacity to build and grow his own squad. They'd need to offer him $1 million a year for him to move, which they won't do and would be stupid to. If he were to go to Adelaide it would be the romantic factor. I don't think he'll go. He'd be silly to. I much prefer to listen to Buckley than Roos. That's because Roos has been Melbourne'd. One and a half seasons is all it takes for your opinion and skill level to be put into question.
FarNorthernD 5,867 Posted July 16, 2015 Posted July 16, 2015 I much prefer to listen to Buckley than Roos. I agree. I always assumed his figjam moniker was fairly close to the mark but he comes across as forthright, pragmatic and intelligent. He answers questions sensibly and honestly without falling into the AFL cliched nonsense that you get from most
old dee 24,098 Posted July 16, 2015 Posted July 16, 2015 They can have Mark Neeld. Now that is really cruel.

rpfc 29,089 Posted July 16, 2015 Posted July 16, 2015 Yes, Roos has always been so wistful and vague when talking to 'journalists' - I am sure he is different with the players - they don't come out of the rooms confused and frustrated...

McQueen 17,867 Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 Goodwin has already turned the Crows down once, stating that he as "too far up the path with the MFC". Well, he's even further up the path now and even with the circumstances with which the Crows are looking for a coach, I cannot see Goodwin back-flipping that much and leaving. I get that he's a favourite son of AFC and the emotional attachment between club and player must still be very strong however, he's a young coach that will probably have a career in coaching that spans several clubs. He'll stay.
daisycutter 30,048 Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 "Goodwin will stay". does that confirm he's going then?
Ted Lasso 19,586 Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 Paul roos comments regarding coaches contracts not being taken seriously last week are suddenly more interesting.
Demon3 2,541 Posted July 17, 2015 Author Posted July 17, 2015 Paul roos comments regarding coaches contracts not being taken seriously last week are suddenly more interesting. Pre-emptive strike from Roosy?
hemingway 7,645 Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 Pre-emptive strike from Roosy? Roosy must be hoping like hell that Goodwin is staying. I imagine that coaching the MFC in mid winter is a kind of hell compared to enjoying the warm rays of sunshine that Hawaii has to offer.
KingDingAling 3,769 Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 I much prefer to listen to Buckley than Roos. Buckley has grown on me. He started out a bit defensive, but he is pretty straight down the line now. Roos tends to dance around questions or play the straight bat.
DemonOX 8,857 Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 U can just c it happening. At the end of the season Goodwin says sorry fellas given the circumstances I've got to help my old club out. It's the Melbourne way. Wonder what would happen then apart from the implosion that would occur here on DL. Would Roos stay longer??? In all honesty nothing surprises me about this club any more
McQueen 17,867 Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 Paul roos comments regarding coaches contracts not being taken seriously last week are suddenly more interesting. Pre-emptive strike from Roosy? That appeared to be more directed at the actual 'clubs' not taking contracts seriously and allowing the coaches time to effect any change. Hadn't considered it to be the other way about... Doubt it though.
poita 3,954 Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 Forgive me for this, but what's so good about Goodwin anyway? Yes, we've put 9 months of development in to him and it would set us back a little if he left, but what has he done to date to suggest he is worthy of two years of hand holding plus a three year senior coach's contract? Particularly by way of comparison to Luke Beveridge who was available at the same time, has a much better coaching pedigree and has been super impressive to date.

Im not worried if we lose Goodwin, Id love to get Stuart Dew as senior assistant Im more annoyed the Crows showing zero class and trying to screw with our own plans
daisycutter 30,048 Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 i don't think a good win this week is at all a safe bet
Vipercrunch 2,873 Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 Until they sign someone else, it's always a possibility due to the emotion involved. Whether or not he had a tie with Phil Walsh himself, he would feel for his old club at this time and if they came to him talking "family first" and telling him how much they need him at this time, then perhaps he will change his plans to re-join them. From all reports it would be a loss for us, but we heard great reports and references about our last couple of coaches too. Given the circumstances, I definitely wouldn't hold it against him.
Ted Lasso 19,586 Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 Goodwin came super highly recommend by bomber Thompson, apparently the bombers players loved him, brilliant mind/match day coach and commands respect
