Did anyone else read that Selwood apparently told Jones he was the worst captain in the entire league?

Suck it Duckwood, you arrogant [censored]!. Look at the scoreboard! Your team is on the slide!

Today?

The best thing was that with our midfield so on top, our makeshift forward line managed to function as well. Spencer, Gawn, ANB and Matt Jones all made very valuable contributions in addition to the "genuine" forwards in Dawes and Garlett. The question on everyone's lips before the game was, "how are we going to score?", and in the end we did it more easily than we have all year.

The midfield is everything really.

Agreed. Hopefully the side now knows it can compete with anyone provided the midfield puts in the required effort. I mean, these stats are unheard of in recent years for us - we won contested possesions 160-131, we won the clearances 53-40, we won the possession count overall 356-299 (Geelong has always been a high possession side and we limited them to under 300).

The other exciting things is that the game style we're working towards is the kind of game that stands up in finals. We're playing hard, tough, contested football, but we've scored 113 points. That's phenomenal when you reflect on it. We're trying to slow games down, congest them, tackle hard, get in and under, and yet we're scoring more than we have in previous years.

Having watched a few more highlights, ANB's running is AFL-grade. Not just the physical effort but the brains of knowing when/where to run. Watts has improved enormously. Dunn's job on Hawkins was exceptional and is a welcome return to the 2014 Dunn, which we desperately have missed this year (helps McDonald on his off days). Dawes didn't kick a goal but his attack on the ball and his unusually clean hands (e.g. Jones' goal at the start of the fourth quarter) were impressive.

The improvement we've seen over the last 6 weeks from Viney, Vince, Garlett, Watts, Toumpas, and now Gawn, is important and exciting.

10pm and still no post match player interviews on the club website.. urghhhhhh

Firstly, how would anyone other than a player hear this, secondly, Selwood and Nate Jones are mates.

Good mates would say that to each other for a laugh anyway.

Nothing in it if it did indeed happen.

Good call.

Was talking to my Dees mad nephew after the game, and was trying to explain to him that I see Robert Harvey in Brayshaw. He had no idea, but was [censored] anyay, so all good.

Yeah!

Stretch is slowly becoming a weapon. He looks really flashy and evasive and he's not a bad kick either.

Dunn played perhaps his best game ever.

Credit to Dawes, even though he looked a bit proppy he certainly contributed for forward pressure and he held on to a couple of good marks, which is all he needs to do.

Also, one of the biggest surprises was Gawn and Spencer's pairing. Spencer wasn't amazing like Gawn, but he didn't lower his colours or look lost out there

Someone will be desperately unlucky next round if Jesse is fully fit.

And I don't remember seeing gut running from any MFC player in a very long time anything like that shown by ANB in that goal he got from the Watts handball. Amazing for any player, let alone a second gamer who really did appear last week to be not quite ready. He, and the whole team, can learn a lot from that one effort.

Don't want to be the one that jinxes it but how has Demonland not crashed yet?

Well done nasher and others.

Whoops...

Out of electronic 'earshot' until now, including even knowing what the result was! So, I think this post should now mean every Demonlander has now posted on this thread?!

And from me, then, ALL OF THE ABOVE! (special mention to the Neal-Bullen lad, of course!)

Great interview.

Love it when Jack says that Selwood was starting to get upset and throw elbows around.. "I love that $hit"' he says.

Everyone get onto it now before they censor it, haha!

The best win since an injury ravaged Demons won against the odds against West Coast at Subiaco in 1998.

Yep that's what I was thinking since quarter time "if we get up would be the best win since that Eagles game in 98". With our draw there's no reason we can't come home with a wet sail like in 98 as well as long as we continue to play tough consistent four quarter footy (well I can dream right?)

Agree with the rest of your post too.

The embrace and pure joy between Vince and Goodwin after the club song was excellent to see.

I reckon Goodwin will be a fantastic coach and the boys will love playing under him.

Anyone take a photo of the scoreboard?

Just high fived Gus Brayshaw and Nev Jetta. Pretty happy with that. Go you bloody redlegs. Made us proud today.

I got a few too. A couple of players even posed with fans

There's something about Goodwin I like as the future head coach. Maybe it's blind faith but he gives off a quiet, confident aura. He won't panic when the going gets tough.

Not getting too carried away. We only beat Geelong. They really need to look at their recent recruiting.

Watched the last quarter from behind the couch.

Brayshaw looms as our best mid since Flower.

Just had a look at the age profile of the list and geez the future is impressive.

Neal-Bullen 19, Petracca 19, Brayshaw 19, Salem 19, Kennedy Harris 20, Hogan 20, Viney 21, Kent 21, Toumpas 21, Tyson 21, Frost 21, McDonald 22. Wow.

Oscar McDonald 19

Liam Jurrah 26

He's probably the best player to get a head coaching job if you take out those who were gifted the role at their former clubs - a list that includes Roos but mainly I mean Voss, Buckley and Hird. Now that counts for little overall but I think the great players who were often great captains/leaders get respect and get the players to play for them very naturally. If McCartney helps him with the teaching then that's teaching and motivation ticked off which is probably 2/3rds of the coaching puzzle. When Roos goes maybe we can snaffle someone from the Hawks system for some tactical advice and we might have most bases covered.

Well done boys I thought we would get smashed.

Am o/s and have taped the game on my Foxtel remote, can't wait to get home and see it.

Go Dees.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
