His reading of the play and anticipation is also excellent. At times he seemed to just will himself to be first to the ball to not let it get past him.

Its good to see Jack Grimes enjoy a win. I have seriously felt for this bloke and if anyone that deserves a bit of success its Jack Grimes. Been through some horrid losses during his time

To make it even more sweeter he played a beauty of the game. I hope he continues his form and stays in for the rest of the year.

I guess it says a lot about our past eight years and depths of despair to which we sank.

We are so pumped up ( me included ) after that good win yesterday that we easily forget that it was against a team

dwelling in the same bottom half of the competition as ourselves.

It is a good sign that we were able to beat the dogs but it is still a win against a lower ranked team.

The next two weeks will be interesting

We are playing two sides who have resided in the upper half of the competition over the last few years.

A win against one or both of them would really prove we are on the way out of the irrelevance camp.

I would love to beat the pies that would make my year.

IT might be the most expensive handball of the AFL season.

Western Bulldogs recruit Tom Boyd was subbed out of the Bulldogs-Melbourne clash after accumulating just one handball and one hit-out.

Boyd left the GWS Giants at the end of last season and signed a deal worth $6 million over six years.

HOWE-ZAT?

Jeremy Howe was a revelation in defence last season, but he’s failed to have the same impact in 2015.

Paul Roos returned the high flyer to the forward line against the Dogs and he played one of his best games for the season.

Howe took a season high seven marks and kicked one goal from his 18 touches.

In the absence of Chris Dawes, Howe added a different dimension to the Dees attack alongside big units Jesse Hogan and Cam Pedersen.

JACK Watts returned to the side after a week in the VFL and looked more at home playing in a high half forward/wing role.

He dropped behind the ball when required and his composure with the possession shone. The reality is that Watts is not a power forward, so expect his form to lift as he settles into a peripheral role where his attacking weapons can shine.

BACK TO GO FORWARD

JACK Fitzpatrick switched from forward to defence during the pre-season and played his first senior match in this new role on Sunday arvo.

His height and athleticism makes him a versatile defender and he made an impression on the Dees faithful with five marks opposed to Tom Boyd.

CAREER BEST

FORMER No. 4 draft pick Jimmy Toumpas played the best of his 22 games for the Dees, gathering 20 touches, kicking two goals and laying six tackles.

His running capacity is building and therefore his ability to break the lines is emerging. The 21-year-old far more composed with the ball. Hopefully this a springboard for the youngster.

I'm an unabashed Dawes fan - his tackles, his blocks, his spoils ,his 1%er's are valuable - unfortunately it is not enough if you are a key forward and not taking marks, kicking a few goals or at least handing them off. Pedo doesn't add as much pressure as Dawes but when Pedo is playing as he is now he takes marks and kicks goals and that is the prime aim of a forward. Kick 2 goals a games and you are a 40 goal a year forward - yes please.

Def not arguing the "effort" factor with Dawes either nut. I just think Pedo is more of an X factor when he is on. Defensively i'm not sure he adds a great deal more but on the "attack at ball/and carrier" when it's within his area i just think he is way more dangerous and as you say, likely to kick a few goals a game which is what forwards are supposed to do (along with goal assists etc).

While not a great chaser/tackler i also think his tank allows him to cover both ends of the ground a little more (when needed) and take a few more crucial marks around the ground as well.

And amazingly for a forward when he gets his hands to the ball it usually sticks!

I've noticed that since Jack 'dropped himself' and the respected voices of Carey, Darcy and Lyon stuck up for him there hasn't been any bad press (except that idiot purple) and some commentators are writing/saying good stuff without qualification.

A number of tackles didn't stick today. I believe we beat that tackle count against Adelaide and Richmond. So it is very achievable.

Our tackles against the Crows was high, but theirs was higher, think about 110 and it was the first time Adelaide had laid over 100 tackles in a match
