Don't mind Bell either. He's a big bodied midfielder who can rack up 25 odd touches a game. Knows how to kick a goal as well. He's basically the player Tapscott should've become.

I liked him a couple of years ago when he was emerging. Great build for that big bodied mid role

Someone on here advised that he was a ball butcher

I watched him a bit since

That someone was right

He's nothing like Tapscott.

About 10cm taller too.

You can add another spud in Aidan Riley to that list.

also add Dawes to that list!!!

But then who do you get to replace half the team???when no one wants to come!

Yep.

Also think that the only move he'll make will be to Qld. Lions might have hoped to get him in as part of a deal for Aish, but sounds like Aish will get to Collingwood.

So that would leave Gawnius Maximus as the sole ruckman with Pedersen as the only back up. King is far too far off at this stage. If Max misses a game then let's try <insert anyone> to ruck all day.

We need to keep Fitzy and Spencer, particularly with Jamar likely finishing up.

Mature tall depth is invaluable over 23 rounds (and hopefully a couple more weeks)

Fitz and Spencil will never be more than cover depth. It's just their luck that we only have an up and come-er and a decent ruck on his last legs. If we were able to bring in a decent/serviceable ruck with some experience (or even the likes of a Smith/Gorringe from GC), i wouldn't hesitate in giving both the flick.

For mine we keep Fitzy.

Tall, fast, can kick a goal, can play Ruck, forward or back. No star but he is a keeper.

We have plenty of others who can go before him like, Bail, Terlich, M. Jones, Jamar, McKenzie, Riley and maybe Michie. Howe could be traded and Garland could leave under FA. If they all went that is 9 changes.

Agree. We have a number of mids and players who run through the midfield that need replacing, as you listed above. Fitzy is hand for depth and may just provide some use as a key big backman.

DazzleDavey - I think you have it right with Aiden Riley. He tries really hard and is one of the best tacklers in the team but has fallen into the same problem as McKenzie with his disposals.

I think you are pretty on the money for the most part.

Being such a shallow draft, it will primarily depend on how many players they can get to the footy club during the free agency and trade periods. I think they will have 1-2 live picks and trade out a few to make trades.

Spencer I think they will keep as ruck depth. Trengove is recovering and back running, unless a good trade comes he is safe.

Depending on Salary Cap and the players coming in Terlich and M.Jones will be kept/delisted. Terlich hasn't gotten a game so he will be the first of the two to go.

Unless I'm mistaken Cross hasn't been given a contract extension as of yet...which surprises me because he has played pretty well. But they may let him go to give space for youth. If they do I hope they give him a development coaching role and play him at Casey as they have done for Shannon Byrnes. I also hope they get M.Jamar as a development coach to help out if he retires as I think he has been great for Gawn, Spencer and King.

I feel Howe is gone, especially if they get a good deal for him. If Garland asks for too much they will let him walk.

Almost certain outs I have (in no particular order):

McKenzie,

Bail,

Jamar

Riley.

Possible:

Mitchie (he has shown a bit over the last few weeks so I hope not)

Cross (as per above)

M. Jones (as per above)

Terlich (as per above)

Hunt - might be rookied but I hope they keep him because he has shown a bit when not injured.

Possible to trade:

Howe (if he asks to go, asks for too much or if the right deal comes along)

Fitzy (lost love with lack of professionalism this year)

Toumpas (for the right deal)

Pederson (not a culture fit)

Garlo possible FA (refer above)

Grimes (in and out of the side and would probably be better for him to get a fresh start elsewhere)

Watts (I like him but if the deal is right they could swing a deal)

Dawes (only if they get something equal to his value, not on current form and would need someone to come in to play his role - possibly Frost)

I wouldn't mind extending his contract for at least another year with an eye to him becoming an assistant/development coach, similar to how Jnr Mac did it up at GWS. He would be able to provide some on-field coaching direction as well, which wouldn't be a bad thing either.

Mackay is, like Redden, a player we were rumoured to have made a significant offer to a couple of years ago.

Yep, I think we made a move for him a couple of years ago but he declined it and we got Vince instead.

Redden and Mackay would be good additions to our midfield IF they came at the right price. Mackay would come cheaper than Redden I would think, and as we all know we are crying out for a little more midfield depth.

He does, i'd even say we need more of his type than we do Redden. Just high-lighting the differences between the 2.

Just doing some research, there's something not right here.

Last year he knocked back free agency and re-signed with the Crows for 4 years. Now they come out and say he's not best 22 and future uncertain? Is it just a rocket to fire him back into form perhaps?

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
