Changes For Next Week

Featured Replies

Do you think he deserves to play?

He might ask Paul to be dropped.

There's no quality at the moment in the midfield with Jones and Tyson in poor form, Viney out and Spencer unable to touch the ball. Fix this and some of the others may improve. Shifting the deck chairs unfortunately. A fit Kent and Jetta would also help.

In today's game where players play their role, their worth to the team isn't always reflected in dream team points. Jetta being a great example.

Way to tell someone who says something is a rough estimate that he's wrong and, actually, it's really a rough estimate.

Possible inns: Jamar, Riley, Newton, ANB, Hogan, Watts

Possible Outs: Spencer, Dawes ( Rested) Toumpas, Howe, if he survives Id play him FF M Jones, Grimes!

Just been confirmed on MFC website Salem set to miss 3 to 4 weeks.

So in normal terms that means 6-8 weeks..

Just as I feel better when Watts is picked, because it shows the knockers are wrong (and I want them to be), so I'd love to see Jamar and Watts both back in the side. I hate the cancer of negativity.

In some ways it doesn't matter who the guys picked are - if the team is on song everyone looks good, and if for whatever reason they are off, even your good players have little impact. I'd rather see a good spirit at the club than superstars in, or spuds out - a good spirit is surely our greatest need. No negative attitudes or bad blood or disciplinary things going on - and I keep hearing/reading dark hints and whispers about something rotten still there. A good vibe around the club, positive feeling and tight-knit group in my view is above landing Dangerfield or getting rid of whoever you happen to think is useless...

It may be tough waiting for it to come together and turn into consistency, but waiting surely beats bellyaching. Get together behind the guys, I say, and hope like hell they are all together too.

I started this thread before the last quarter on the weekend when emotions were high and the extent of all injuries was not clear, below are my revised changes.

Out: Bail, Spencer, M. Jones, Stretch, Salem (inj)
In: Hogan, Jamar/Gawn, Riley, Watts, Newton

Dawes and Howe both very lucky as they were putrid on the weekend, but I would like to see Howe go forward to stretch the backline of the Bulldogs.

I still believe that Toumpas will not be on an AFL list come the end of the year, but the least we can do is give him an extended run and as others have mentioned see if he can fill the void Salem has left.

How long till the offseason?

I find it bizarre that some of the posters here who say, "we've played the three best teams in the comp, what do you expect?" Are also calling for Spencer to be dropped.

Granted Roos was obviously in essence "tanking" those games to get some experience into the likes of Spencer against tough opposition but at the same time, I see no benefit in rushing him out before we play a very winnable game against the Dogs.

If we complain about the AFL scheduling us the way it has which has led to a drop in confidence, dropping Spencer is just going to continue the downward spiral of development we've seen in previous years.

IMO, he gets one more week, maybe two. Let's see if he can compete better against a side closer to our level, and let's give these inexperienced players the opportunity to play themselves into confidence.

What have we got to lose anymore? When Jamar retires this year or next we will have no option but to play Spencer more often than not.

I remember Jamar being god awful in his first few seasons. Spencer hasn't even played 30 games.

Ba Dum Tsshhh..

I'm here all week.

Not certain if you saw his game v Hawks. I'm a great supporter since Spencer's game v Carlton last year after which he was found to have a broken leg from memory. But this year he has been deplorable. Gives it all he's got but he is not, half the time, actually competing in the ruck. Can understand why Pyke should beat him but can't understand why he should be thrashed by Ceglar.

It is still early in the season. We should be picking the team which gives the best chance of success. Our onballers do get some easy possessions from Jamar especially around the ground.

And if Dawes is playing injured, then pick Gawn as well. My I pression last year was that he was running out of gas. Lets see him in a situation where the ruck work is shared.

And not by Pedersen who played bloody well last match. Whenever he left the forward line in order to ruck we looked still more hopeless

I don't think that Jetta will be back this weekend, so modifying "Spirit of Norm Smith"'s team:

Grimes T.Mcd Dunn

Howe Garland Lalamumbaaaa

Michie Vince Toumpas

Watts Dawes Newton

Gartlett Hogan [Pedersen]

Jamar Tyson Jones

Cross Brayshaw Riley

sub. Vandenburg

emerg. Gawn Bail ANB

outs MJones Bail Stretch Spencer Salim- inj

ins Riley Newton Watts Hogan Jamar

Tally-ho, old boy.

Have to say though, I'd rather "stars". You get me stars, who influence the for and against columns, and I'll give you an abundance of what you crave.

Having read the match preview.. I'd like to see Jamar back in.. Better ruckman than Spencer and much better around the ground.. Spencer is useless!!

Hope like hell Jetta is OK and can come back in soon, ideally this week.

Not a bad idea to throw Howe forward to add some spark to the forward line. Also so he doesn't take another speccy on Nev's head. But then we've lost Salem and we need class in the back line so that's also an issue.

But Howe needs to lift big time. He says he wants to stay with the club but it doesn't really look a whole lot like it at the moment.

Watts, though I want him back in the team badly, should remain with Casey for a another week to prove he can play well again and get some more confidence.

Dawes can stay, just. Needs some glue on his hands though.

We need more grunt and dash in the midfield, so much more, Viney is missed. Don't know if Newton can give that. But he's a decent player who can use it well and I'd prefer him than Bail or Matt Jones.

Jamar should come back because it's pretty obvious he is a better option than Spencer. Boy I wish Gawn was tearing it up. But still I think the ruck is not a massive issue. Particularly against the Dogs.

Most of all we need Jones, Tyson, Vince, Cross, Lumumba, Vandenburg and unfortunately (because he's a kid) Brayshaw to fire up and lead the way out of the middle. We need more capable mids. But until then the ones we have must play well for us to have a chance. Tyson has struggled with his knee complaint but apparently it's not enough to drop him so he's got to play his role.

So for mine:

Ins: Jamar, Hogan, Jetta (if available), Newton

Outs: Salem (injured), Bail (if Jetta in), M. Jones, Spencer

No Jetta on Demon Twitter

Roos says Neville Jetta (concussion) won't play this week but should hopefully be fine for next week.

Out: Roos

In: Goodwin

Roos job at mitigating the avalanche of goals from box was pisspoor, as was his press conference full of excuses and rhetoric.

Time you tried a new team. We don't need your negative ignorance. If you don't want another team try soccer

Strange Watts has only gone to Casey for 1 game

he plays his best footy against the Dogs though, so I dont mind him back in

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
