Training - Friday 1st May, 2015

Recommended Posts

Most of the squad trained, including Viney who did a bit of rehab running and drills with Nev Jetta, Sam Frost appeared on the Trengove trolley, only missing Petracca, Trengove, Kent

Nev Jetta is totally [censored] off he can't get a crack at Ballantyne

The drills were as per the norm now, lots of ball movement, with more or less defenders, then a few stoppage drills where tackling was encouraged

At the end Watts did a bit more tackling practice

When rucks trained separately with Stafford, it was only the recognized rucks, Jamar, Spencer, Gawn, Fitzpatrick and King

Towards the end squad was split into groups, McKenzie was with the backs, as was Hunt, the rest as it says on the tin

Tyson trained strongly, Dawes had a bit of running repairs done with physios, but finished strongly also

McCartney didn't seem to be there today

I asked Ben Mathews how many players would we put on Fyfe, answer 18

For those who like the look of him, ANB has pulled up really well from his first two runs, looking forward to Sunday

Any questions, feel free, pics on Twitter Demonpk soon

Thank god Tyson is OK.

I guess if Jetta feels right, he will only miss the one?

Just tell him he'll be fresher for taking him on in the finals!

Nev told Jade Rawlings he was right to go this weekend on Monday and Tuesday and Wednesday and Thursday, club is being ultra cautious, exactly the same as they did with Roh Bail, Nev just has to wear it, but understands

Sucks that Nev can't play. He's one of the reasons I love watching the new-look Dees.

The best parts are when his opponents get frustrated and start doing stupid [censored]. You just KNOW he'd do it to Ballantyne.

I find this strange. Maybe they will give Dawes and Pedersen some training privately.

Or we are actually planning to play Spencer and Jamar in the same side (yikes).

I tried my best with quite a few to see which way we were going to go, and got a straight bat from everybody, loved it, no idea

What if Spencer does play, he has the tank to run around all day with Sandilands, he just has to compete, which he is capable of, even Sandilands would get a bit tired with over 100k bashing into him the whole game

Same with McKenzie, if he gets a role, would give it everything he had

Talk of finals outside of pre-season? Can we do that on here?

Thanks TDI

Would be interested in your gut feel on who your pick is to join Grimes in this weeks team based on todays training ?

Or have you been sworn to secrecy ?

As I put above, tried to glean who it was, got straight bat from both Spencer and Pedo, nothing for Pig and missed Jordie, asked a couple of others, nada, wouldn't expect anything less

Personally whatever way the FD go they will be doing it for a reason, I am not bothered, I know from the last couple of weeks, the 22 we send out will go out determined to play the same brand of aggressive footy coz it works, and even though everybody tends to denigrate the 4, at least all 4 are pretty agressivve in their game

Who talks about finals during the pre-season?

Pre-season is reserved for talk about the following year's draft.

I'll take that at this time of our journey..

I'd be [censored] off if it happened in the GF.

They have Clarke.

The issue isn't Spencer in the ruck. I'd love to see 2 rucks. They can then both play a really physical game and run and spread giving us a marking option around the ground.

The issue is that one or both of Jamar or Spencer would have to play multiple minutes forward and neither of them offer much attacking or defending up forward.

They have really been working with them over the pre season on the very thing, Jamar hasn't been that bad when resting forward and Spencer has been getting better at it for Casey, even had 2 goal assists on Sunday, one from a strong mark in the 50

Yes will be interesting to see who comes in given the oppositions ruck. I think Spencer Jamar combo is a double liability. I have my doubts over Spencer although Pedo proved himself last year so maybe Spencer can do the same. I think Pedo is less of a liability as he can play a genuine forward role and just relieve Jamar a few times however not sure if he can 2nd ruck against Freo. Could Spencer maybe be sub and come on at half time. Dawes and can relieve Jamar a couple times and that means we don't have two Ruckman on the ground the whole game.

I think Spencer Jamar combo is something Id like to see us live with this year.

If we can win in the middle and provide another, admittedly mediocre, tall option forward, its a team that would be tough to play against for many teams.

We cant keep hoping the Russian can do it on his own.

Spencer is as ready as he is going to get. Exciting.

Too risky if you get an injury.

My guess is because it's Sandilands and Clarke they'll go with Spencer. If it rains they might go for Riley. Brute contested ball winner in the wet.

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w
