I hold fears that Jesse will leave as Fremantle will likely offer him the whole dock. However, Jesse seems to have made some great relationships with the players and staff and seems to be over the homesickness he experienced when he suffered his back injury. If we keep performing well throughout this year and next, it will provide Jesse with further incentive to stick with us for the long haul. 

Regardless of what happens, let's just enjoy the ride and what comes with it.

Perhaps not, but the fact is that there is not one reason to suggest he wont be stayng at Melbourne past his current contract

And until I see a reason to believe he may be gone I will let everyone else do the panicking while I relax and enjoy Hogan playing great footy and the Dees finally winning

thats what im doing. ill enjoy every game he plays in the red and blue. we will be well compensated and although nothing replaces a gun key forward the list will still be in great shape. 

Again whilst I am in no way shape or form comparing him with Scully but I cannot help but laugh at posters reading Hogan's body language and nuances and suggesting they are indicators. The exact same thing transpired with Voldemort  - constant looking at how he acted and reacted. There is no doubt that Scully's demeanor was odd at his time at Melbourne - well so i thought until I heard on SEN talking about the GWS boys after the game in the hotel and they said the banter between all the players was really good except for one T Scully - he stood around by himself like a cardboard cutout

 

So like Nasher, I am going to enjoy watching Hogan play like lots of others in our team and work on the assumption that Hogan will remain a Demon right up until the time he is not  - be it 2 years, 5 years or when he retires..

How about: we have an exciting list finally coming together and believing in each other and ready to charge up the ladder, and he's an integral part of that.

Versus going to Freo just in time for their plummet down the ladder, the vampire Lyon having sucked all the football life out of their decrepit list.

I'm in the same boat as most others I think - I'll enjoy watching Hogan (the first legit superstar I've seen at the club since I've been following) as a Demon until he's not because the alternative is just too sickening/depressing to contemplate.

Yes, but it doesn't have to. There's no other player in the league contracted until the end of next year whose contract status anybody is even remotely discussing.

We keep winning, that is step 1 to retaining Jesse. He sees good things happening here I think he'll want to stay. 

People worry too much and get too morose about these things.

Hogan and Watts are at the very least in a wonderful bromance, and putting contract talks off might just mean they are waiting for the plebiscite to go through.

Don't forget that Fremantle have a mountain of players to attract/retain. Fyfe is coming out of contract and set to become a RFA at years end, Cam McCarthy is pretty much a lock to go there also and they have offered Hooker a monster deal.

The more wins we have on the board, the more unrealistic it will be for Freo to lure him - so they will put majority of their eggs in the Fyfe, McCarthy & Hooker basket.

 

For reasons i've outlined before i can't see Hogan wanting to return to WA (mainly related to the burden of travel, but as private fella i can't see him enjoying the fish bowl in a two team provincial town) but for the sake of argument lets say he is considering a move back home.

As a competitive beast Hogan, like most players, priority will be playing in and winning finals. If he honors his contrast with the dees then any move would be for the 2018 season. I reckon Freos premiership window will be closed by then and more than likely they will be back in the rebuild phase. I can't see him wanting to be part of a rebuild again, particularity if the club he has been laying at is reaping the reward of its rebuild (on the current trajectory we should be a top 4 side in 2018 - i hope!).

WC might still be a realistic chance of a flag then but would need to keep building and not go backwards. They do have Kennedy but of course would take Hogan if available. 

So i can't see him at Freo, leaving only one WA club for him to do a deal with.

But as i say i can't see him returning to WA and we will be in a position to match almost any offer.

The problem with that argument is that there have been several players who have signed long term deals with their clubs, and players who would draw considerable interest on the open market as well.  Are you suggesting each manager told them not to do it?

They've also got Pav & Sandliands to retire (Johnson &  Mundy too?)
