I've never really had one LH (even though I know you only brought it up in reference to Roosy). I always believe in some way that we can win any game we play. Ridiculous, yes, but I can't approach our games in any other way.

Hogan signing on until, say, 2019 or 2020 would be one of the biggest shows of faith in our club in a long, long time. I would literally sob tears of joy for hours.

It's just a stupid thing to say - why would you question his future level of effort based on absolutely nothing, and even if your point has some merit, what are you actually suggesting we do? Sit him down for some sort of psychological analysis or make him pinky swear..or what? Obviosuly the bloke is in a position to command a huge pay packet and if we want to keep him we will have to match it - I just don't get why you are inventing some sort of concern about him not putting in after he signs, just a thing you made up to throw in the mix for some reason

Nice King. But I'm going to disagree with you on one point.

If we get a quality mid field, with grunt, Hogan might go a long way towards saving the MFC. Personally I wld try & do both

Reckon Hogan will stay put for the forseeable future. He'll be with us until at least 2020, IMO. If we can have a sustained period of success anywhere during that time, he'll remain a demon for life.

I get that we need to win games and climb the ladder to retain him, but we'll be knocking on the door of the 8 next year, in his second full season, and he'll be playing finals by his third season. He'd take that I reckon.

It will move from $10.2 to at least $13m or $14m over one or two years I think, especially if the AFLPA get a percentage share that they gag for. So suddenly Hogan at $1m a year over 5 years goes from 10% of the cap to nearly half that as the cap progressively increases.

One thing to note - I think that the TV money will mean that all players get more money but the largest increases will be for the ~50 best and most important players.

Thing is though, unless his management are complete dullards, they will be aware of this also and this will create relunctancy for them to0 sign a long term deal. So you'd sell the house for a midfielder, of which there are many in the league and are far easier to develop and mould into stars, but you wouldn't for a once-in-a-generation forward that already has the awareness and competitiveness of a 10-year player?

There are only about 12 players in the comp who even qualify for that monster KPF goalkicker category, and Hogan looks like he could be the #1 some day

I'll make a massive call here, Jesse Hogan is the most important person to the MFC in terms of retaining that I've seen in my time, we want out of the nightmare, it starts with locking him up long term, Brayshaw, Salem, Petracca and co will develop into a good midfield but Hogan is the type of player that wins you premierships.

I know its rare to have a player at the MFC that demands the best out of everyone and doesn't accept second best, but still...

Wayne Carey, Jonathan Brown, Dermott Brereton, Tony Lockett .. they all had what Jesse has. Anyone that has an issue with how Jesse carries himself doesn't know what greatness looks like.

An extension until 2019 is enough for me. It ends any short term speculation. If we haven't come good (and by that i mean be regulaly competitive and playing a final or two) by the end of 2017, Goodwin is going to be under serious pressure in 2018. To have Hogan locked in for 2019 will mean over less distraction that year.

If we aren't challanging in 2019, Hogan may as well go and so should we.

In all interviews I've seen and read Jesse has come across as being of extremely strong character thanks to his family.

Because of this I can't see him ever 'quitting his job' for a similar one closer to home ie. being wooed home to join Freo or Franchise. If anything I think he's a better chance of moving overseas to play for bigger money and opportunity, which is inconceivable.
