All too often losing when hugely favoured to win not an embarrassing record but a monkey on our backs that needs eradication.

I don't know but doubt it.

North Melbourne in 2016 nearly missed the finals from 10-1 though. They finished 12-10 and only scraped into 8th on percentage.

According to Fox Sports, since 1995 no:

https://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/afl-2021-the-run-home-after-round-14-predicted-ladder-top-eight-finals-ladder-predictor-analysis-afl-finals-fixture/news-story/de46d0762cca975dd450e0666af78844

"So when it says Melbourne has a 100% chance of playing finals from 11-2, it’s because no 11-2 team in that time frame missed the finals."

Thank you Shakers so 11 wins will not make finals this year?

There is one record I care about breaking last done in 1964.

All I know is a close mate of mine who barracks for Essendrugs and lives in QLD told me today he's booked annual leave over GF week because he doesn't want to miss out on a Melbourne flags celebrations.

Here's one for our next game.

We haven't won two games against Hawthorn in the same season since 1994. 10 times since we've played them twice in one season and lost at least once.

(Meanwhile we've won our last four against Hawthorn, going back to the 2018 SF. It took us 13 years to win our previous four games against Hawthorn!).

Have we ever won on a Thursday night before? In fact, have we ever played on a Thursday night before (other than Anzac Eve)?

Yep, this was our 5th Thursday night game - none of them have been ANZAC Eve, actually.

Previous Thursday night games:

  1. Round 1 1997 vs North Melbourne (win)
  2. Round 6 2011 vs West Coast (loss)
  3. Round 4 2019 vs Sydney (win)
  4. Round 9 2020 vs Port (loss)

Am I right in thinking we haven't won the minor premiership since 1964?

Definitely

After beating Adelaide we have now beaten 16 of 17 other AFL teams this H&A season. I swear that must be close to some record since the inception of 18 teams.

A win agains the Pies on QB would have been a clean sweep.

This team of ours is starting to set things right, Go Dee’s.!!!

I assume you're asking about whether it's a record for us? (Clearly Essendon achieved this feat in 2000, given they only lost one game for the whole season.)

There were only 16 teams though, so you got return matches against 7 sides: more chances to win the clean sweep.

No one has done it in the 18 team era.

We've tied the record with Fremantle in 2015, who beat 16 of the 17 other sides, missing out on Hawthorn only.

We lost to Collingwood. Technically the Hawks game was not a loss.

Thanks for correcting me.

Oh wow, there you go. Geez forgot how dominant Freo was that year.

As @Demonstone said, I meant Fremantle missed out on Hawthorn in 2015.

We beat Hawthorn before the draw so that counts. The only side we didn't beat this year was Collingwood.

A far cry from the long losing droughts we used to have.

As far as I am concerned the Curse is dead, I am not sure whose footy boots got burnt in pagan offering, but it has worked.

My reasoning is thus - Has anyone else noticed that Essendon and Carlton now play like we used too? Occasional flashy attack but so often shooting themselves in the foot and not winning when expected and with everything to play for. It is particularly Carlton's insipid performances that make me feel like they have taken over our role as class clown.  Gives me great joy - Win or Lose this year we have become a consistent team, make sure the next time you go to curse millennials (for what ever reason (usually being young and bright) you remember it is they that are removing 56 years of mediocrity.

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
