Three clubs and Melbourne interested in Howe.

In Bali now making his decision, Manager suggesting that he had to wait until one of the teams finished finals (recently) to be able to speak to the coach.

Manager confirms that GC is one of the teams. Two Melbourne clubs also interested.

He is gone with a capital G. Lock it in folks.

Decision by mid next week, Manager conforms he is MORE LIKELY TO GO.

Hope he keeps off the methanol.

There is no doubt that Roos is pizzed off that Howe is demanding far more than what he is worth. Think he even leaked that to Slobbo a couple of weeks ago on AFL 360, He won't be held to ransom with a guy that finishes ninth in the Bluey.

Except all hes asking for is the apparent contract were about t give Melksham. So I'd say his demands are fair, and hes annoyed were giving that contract so Melksham yet not talking to him. I know which one I'd want

Said our offer was half that of one of the other suitors. Will be expecting great compo if they're willing to pay big bucks. Said 600K rumour was BS.

Just confirmed by his manager that he's more likely to go than stay. The money bandied around in the media and Demonland was absolutely ridiculous. Manager stated that Howe wanted to play a settled role, whether that be forward or wing. Manager acknowledged that he was inconsistent as a forward, but mentioned that gameplans and systems may have had something to do with that.

As for Dawes, manager again acknowledged that he needed to improve, but mentioned that injuries were a factor this year. Dawes won't require any surgery, and is working with Misson on a rehab program. No truth in trade rumours.

No he didn't. The TR host mentioned a figure, and his manager just laughed and said it was about half that.

He isn't a free agent... there is NO compensation in this WHAT so ever. How do people NOT understand how this works?

Meaning we offered what hes worth, and some stupid team has been blinded by his high marking.

We can get something good in return for him.

Probably more that there was no interest

Jeebus by compensation I mean picks in a trade, Calm down muppet.

Also, the delay in the decision is due to teams being in the finals or he implied new coaches to be appointed. My guess is that the other 2 clubs aside from GC are Essendon and Fremantle.

Not the way I heard it, pretty sure he said our offer was about half of that of another club, happy to be corrected though, maybe someone else can confirm.

I know we aren't into Bennell, but I would straight swap him for Howe in a heartbeat..

Are we going to get much for Howe do you think???

Posted

Howe much you think ?

Posted (edited)

His manager did seem pretty honest and his parting words are 99% confirmation he's a goner. In fact by the way he was talking I don't think Howe is even considering staying. 2/3 of the interested clubs are Victorian. I would hazard a guess that it's Collingwood (rumoured) and one of North, Richmond or (shudder) Hawthorn as he was implying that one of them had only just finished their season.

If you REALLY meant to say that after I corrected you then I apologise..But in saying that, just because there willing to pay Howe $600k, doesn't mean they have to offer 'great compo' aka trade picks. Not how it works bud.

I think we will regret losing him.

That entirely depends on what / who we get through trading him.

There's something thoroughly NQR and on the nose about the way Howe and his manager have handled his departure from the club. They've managed to turn a player, who should be a hero of the club, into someone we're sick of hearing about. He's shopped himself around and has given the impression of a player purely looking for a bigger pay day.

I have nothing against a player needing a change of scenery, more opportunities or even better remuneration based on performance... But Howe and his management have turned this into a public cattle auction and the MFC and its fans have every right to feel frustrated.

Compare this attitude to that of Colin Garland and ask which player would earn your respect as a team mate.

Found this bit interesting in the article

“He’s an elite endurance runner ... be he’s a dominant repeat sprinter.

“He’s got an amazing capacity to get up and down the park as a wingman or high half forward.”

Have I missed something here!!

I must have been witching someone else on the park!

I disagree. His manager outlined that Howe wants to play in a settled position, whether that be up forward or on a wing, and thinks he would be a more consistent player if he was allowed to do so. I think Howe genuinely loves the club, but doesn't think he can get the best out of himself under the current FD. The money issue is secondary IMO.

I was in the 'don't want to lose him' camp for most of the year.

However... when was the last time he turned a game for us? When was the last time he was a match winner? Yes he kicked a goal to put us in front against the Saints, but he had done very little up to that point.

Outside of taking a high mark what does he bring to the table? His disposal is ok and he has improved defensively but as a forward he has been poor for a few years.

If he goes then he goes. If the club were keen to keep him and believed he was a large part of our plans then our offer would have been better. If a club is offering close to double what we did then obviously the club is pretty happy to see him go.

Also, to me, this opens up the club to further moves and more salary cap space. We may be able to up an offer for someone we've had our eye on or get some more deals done quickly. I'll miss his high marking but not much else.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
