Pass mark for 2015

You are missing the point. I agree there is a fair amount of passion demonstrated here. Most threads are almost unreadable, over flowing with negativity, name calling and down right mistruths.

As an outsider, perception is stronger than reality. You wanted realism, look around objectively and consider what newbies would think. You know the same people you want to join to grow your community. Do you think they see this place favourably or unfavourably?

Rightly or wrong you are a reflection of the MFC affiliated or not.

You are all over the place.

The name calling is as borish as it as ever been but don't tell me you want positivity and the truth. Sometimes it is an either/or scenario.

Demonland is a reflection of the Demon community - warts and all. And the best of us, and the best in us is pretty bloody good.

Is the club seen favourably? This community has always been welcoming and continues to grow the number of people that post here or simply read here.

You are doing your bit - giving your opinion, and I am doing mine - telling you it is misguided.

We are ready and willing to be a positive force or nature us Melbourne supporters - its about time the club ignited that optimism.

I hope it is in 2015.

You obviously live a long way from the corridors of power at the MFC - Klieg, Klieg, Klieg-Du bist a Nar. Your ignorance is laughable and your 16000+ post here is testimony to the fact your live in a cyber world and it was you who want realism, so sorry but I have to laugh. My pass-mark for 2015 is - I hope we shut the negative nellies around here up.

The first steps have been taken (again, as my signature suggests), and 'bitter people' and 'good people' are the same people with different mindsets. Unless you think those 'fair share' should be spurned rather than rehabilitated.

I am optimistic about 2015 but I don't hold expectations out of line with what I know of football.

That isn't bitterness.

You realize there are copyright laws rpfc?

The feeling was mutual. I will take from your comments Ive hit the nerve of truth. Your obvious distance is glaring - yet you appear to have a deep rooted desire to contribute.

Consider this. If your football club valued this place why would it not be here participating in the community. No it elects to monitor the community yet not contribute. The governing body of the competition would not even let MFC members elect its own board. Wonder Why?

It's hardly mutual - here we are still wasting internet.

Here we are...

Here we are in a "how many games (or performance levels) is enough to be a 'pass'" thread and, from perceived negativity, you have attempted to argue that the supporters of this club are destructive, their opinions are not valued by the club (due to their negativity), and alluded that the AFL stepped in to appoint Jackson and a handpicked board because MFC members are too negative/stupid/destructive (or all of the above) to make proper judgements on people.

I am Mr Conciliatory around here, so I am happy to forget the awkward distance-related 'barbs' and the oh-so-hurtful post count reference, but what I would like is for some substance to your allusions, otherwise people will think they are illusions.

Please answer your own rhetorical questions;

Consider this. If your football club valued this place why would it not be here participating in the community. No it elects to monitor the community yet not contribute. The governing body of the competition would not even let MFC members elect its own board. Wonder Why?

I must admit that I had to look back to see exactly what you are getting at. I understand your point about positivity in all persons and also the reality that not everyone holds a positive viewpoint all of the time.

Yes our past 50 years has been poor as far as getting the 13th Flag but I have enjoyed the highs and lows. I ve seen the abusers in the crowd and not been able to fathom what it is that drives them.

I always look back to the northey era as the standard for our club and playing group, tough, uncompromising, respected. I am hopeful that Roos is working on rekindling that spirit and wants everyone who loves this club on board.

The above statement does you no credit. I am certainly not in a position of power but I do have the power to set a good example for my children who still support the Dees.

The performance of our players is our window into the club. It is easy for us to take a club to them. I appreciate those here that report on the training sessions and events as that what make the community a great place to be.

I know that other members of the forum will disagree with what I or you may say. I would rather that people be involved in this forum than not contributing at all.

A pass mark can be based on many factors and people may see that our players are not up to standard but if they are reaching new PBs and the skills and game plan is improving and the club has a positive focus and future then we are moving towards being a better club. The retention of players will attest to that success. Also successful recruiting will also demonstrate that positive change. I am hoping that we will play well as a team and that we win every game that we play. The opposition may prevail in the end but I will know that we will be be in a better position to grow as a club if we go for it.

So, this year, this is the way I see it.

0-2 wins- Disband the club it's unfixable. Well maybe not but the despair would be palpable, all hope would be gone and I'd be seriously considering whether or not to renew and commit to a rebuild of a rebuild of a rebuild. As a Melbourne supporter I can't rule this out as a real possibility.

3-4 wins- Fail, but not the Armageddon scenario above. Just your run of the mill depressing waste of a year we're all accustomed to.

5 wins- An F+, still a fail but an improved fail.

6 wins- This might just constitute a pass but would still be disappointing. When your kid brings home a D- it might be a pass but that doesn't mean you're happy with it, same applies here.

7-8 wins- Solid improvement and given where we're coming from I wouldn't be unhappy with this as long as we're out of the bottom 4.

9-10 wins- This is what I'm hoping for, would set us up for a genuine crack at finals in Roosy's last year in charge and would give us back some real respect as a club.

11-12 wins- Huge improvement, knocking on the door or maybe just sneaking into finals. I'd be very happy and this place would be buzzing in anticipation for 2016.

13+ wins- Finals. Roos would be the messiah and the whole football world would be lauding his genius. As a Melbourne supporter I can't rule this out as a real possibility.

Jeeeesus...the original post was a simple question, asking what D'landers would consider an acceptable performance in season 2015.

I wouldn't have thought it would be so hard to just give an answer/opinion (positive or negative) in just a few words.

No on the contrary I really like your post. I'm convince this club has a solid core of outstanding amazingly positive committed supporters and then there are the others. I suppose I just thought some people spend like 16000+ posts of wasted internet time - imagine if they invested the same amount of time positively into the club. "if it is to be its up to me"

Maybe then a better question would be - What can Demonland do to help the MFC achieve a better passmark in 2015? Apart from the obvious buy memberships.

I'm still confused about the point you are trying to make, is it wasting Internet time, or high post counts? Your posts are a little over the place and lack direction.

Yeah sorry Im still trying to work out what this community is aiming to achieve - a negative talk fest/vent which appears to be media inspired ( implying many contributors appear distanced from the club ) or a positive way it could contribute to the MFC.

It's a fairly even split between people who want to chat about the team they support and children (some well on in years) who want to bignote themselves and snipe at other posters who dare to have a different opinion to them. If you block the trolls it isn't a bad place to have a chat about the team.

I'm becoming increasingly skeptical about this season tbh. I'm sure there will be "improvement" with what I interpret as being a better overall squad, but I still think the squad lacks the talent and experience to be consistently good.

Will this team improve more than the Lions will? Dogs? Saints? Can we finish about the Pies, Crows, Eagles, Bombers? Is GWS going to continue to improve, as they've shown to have having thumped Melbourne in the last three encounters between the two sides? The club wants to make the finals in 2016: Who do we leap frog in that time?

I think 6-8 wins is passable, but 3-4 wins is still very much a possibility.

I'm very confident that we'll get a few good wins this year ala Adelaide in Adelaide and the Essendon win, but ultimately, this team is still only a 6-8 win side.

To be entirely honest, a pass mark for me would be a win against one of Geelong, North or the Hawks, and actually playing football in Perth rather than just being run over.

Real improvement will be shown in how we compete against teams that throw us around like rag dolls and have for years, like Geelong. Nathan Jones and Dunn would have won, what, once against Geelong? Same for Hawks and North?

I've just gotten to a point now where I want to see a good game of football against quality opposition. The two games against Port last year were tough losses but they were both really great games to watch. I think that realistically that's where we should be setting the standard for this squad: not being steamrolled and lying down early.

Also, Round 1 is an absolute must-win. We have two away games that follow and if the club wants to build its membership and support it needs to set a promising first impression. A loss against GC at the MCG in Round 1 would be a disastrous start to the season imo. It would just set the wheels in motion for yet another tough year. We deserve more than that at this point. The fans need some hope.

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak
