Christian Petracca - Season Ending Knee Injury

Featured Replies

Christian's football career has been seriously thrown into doubt with one of the most serious injuries any mid could get.

I hope the club has the right people around him for what will be a long, frustrating year. I don't know how I would deal with this injury and what the prognosis is.

Whether he can come back in 2016 and have the confidence in his body needed of a mid, is yet to be seen.

Good luck young fella.

Jack Trengove, who knows a thing or two about resilience has already tweeted he is going to look after him

Christian regards himself as a forward first and a mid second by the way

Plenty of players have come back from this point and he has time on his side :)

Bigger and better in 2016

Honestly.. How many more virgins must I sacrifice to grant a blessing from the Gods...

You mean you found some?

I'm gutted for him. Sounded like he was really poised to make an immediate impact and get working with Brayshaw from the start. Another young gun not given a clean run at it from the start, please release us from this curse!!!

Ultimately important thing is that we take our time with him getting right and let everything heal as it should. Maybe the club should organise Lenny Hayes or someone like that to give him a buzz over the next week just to chat to him and raise his spirits (ala Hawkins/Hogan last year).

football career in doubt? Come on that's ridiculous

I have done my acl twice and if you take your time and stick to the rehab program all should be fine, it's just a long frustrating 10-12 months and I'm sure the club has the appropriate people to help him through the recovery process

Don't rush back Christian, please take your time and do it right, we all really really want to see you out there, but we all know what being patient is and patient is what we will be.

Sad for the kid. Wishing him a full recovery. If we are going to improve, we will make headway with or without him.

Makes me ponder though. Why do men in school boy shorts snap like blackboard chalk before thay can get going properly? Trengove, Hogan, Tapscott and now Petracca.

Right, so after the initialn anger at hearing this, let's turn our attention to something else, who can we elevate from the Rookie list to replace him this year?

Before I got on Demonland at about 12:30, my exact thought was "better check Demonland and see what devastating injury probably happened today"

It's that [censored] predictable.

[GLASS HALF FULL] At least we know he's out for the year, and won't be teased with a never-ending '6-8 weeks' prognosis from Dave Misson every week, a la Hogan. [/GLASS HALF FULL]

Shattering news none the less.

Some people don't have the bodies for AFL level effort?

No idea but some seem to be unable to take the punishment when others rarely have any sort of a serious injury.

It's funny to wonder if the Saints took him would this have happened or would Mccartin have done his instead?

I can see everyone trading him out of supercoach now.

From the reports it was a collision with terlich which forced an unnatural movement inwards. Same thing would of happened to Schwarzenegger in his juicing days. Was just bad luck by the sounds of it. Some people do have naturally weak ligaments or poor bio mechanics like the menzels, increasing the odds of this type of injury, but doesn't seem like this is the case here.

Heartbreaking for the lad. Quite possibly the biggest and most talented mid we've drafted over the last decade and he does an ACL 2-3 out from NAB Cup. Seriously hope he can come back better in 2016.

Hope is a dangerous thing to have as a demon supporter isn't it. As soon as I have any in the bank its get raided. So disappointing, as watching him progress and hopefully debut was going to be one of the really enthralling aspects of 2015. At least its just a knee and he doesnt need a heart replacement like Scully...or Morton....or Cook...or Gysberts or.....ahhhh Im just depressing myself.

The ox managed to play 100+ after 3 recos.

Just have to make sure he does everything right during his rehab.

I think broken bones in the foot and leg have threatened more careers lately.

Let's concentrate on the blokes still running around.

It's not so much of an issue with skinny kids because they can really hit the gym and build their upper body while in rehab, Christian is already there in that sense, just needs to be really patient and treat it as an opportunity to build character, every situation provides an opportunity ity to grow.

There goes his Brownlow chances in 2015. Guess he'll have to just accept 4 over his career instead of 5...

WHY?

WHY?

WHY DOES THE BUCKET OF SH IT ALWAYS LAND ON US?

It doesn't Bbo

90% of it over the last decade was self created.

Dom Tyson did his ACL in 2013 aswell. Looked fine to me last year.

BUT you seriously have to ask questions about this so called curse. These long term injuries are only happening to our gun players or up and coming stars. You never see any of our depth players get these sort of injuries.

Trengove, Hogan, Molan, Tapscott, Blease, Petracca and even ANB......

a certain amount of care or pain or trouble is necessary for every man at all times. A ship without ballast is unstable and will not go straight.

Spot on Saty,

He is a kid that was probably not going to contribute much this year.

Life goes on, the sun will come up tomorrow.

We have all had a lot of disappointment the last decade so nothing new to get a little bit here.

There are 39 others on the list plus rookies.

Just proves to me you should go very easy on young draftees.

Very well put OD.

I wish Christian all the best in his rehab & hope he gets himself right for 2016

Now, had it been Tyson, Jones or Hogan I may have pitched myself off the balcony. This is disappointing but not the end of the world

I can't begin to express my disappointment at this news - it's not quote as bad as when Schwarter went down or when word spread that Scully was going to leave the club (yes he was promising back then), but it's pretty darn close.

I've seen him at training and his bullet-like kicking was phenomenal and with his height, aggression and pace, we had a real livewire - sure we still have him, but we are going to have to wait.

There are very few winners out of this.

For us fans, I suspect he was in the top two "most looking forward to see players" - ranking up with Hoges.

I felt he was also a point of difference for our forward line (forget the midfield bit as he was never going to play there this year). He was tall for a small forward and could tackle hard and he had that uncanny Dustin Martin type instinct around goal.

Now we are consigned to just small or bigs, unless Howey is sent back to the forward line.

It's a big blow for this year - not quote as big as if we lost Hoges or Dawes, but certainly up there, and forget talk about him being just a kid, he was legit already.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
