With people picking best 22 teams and choosing forwards mainly as goal kicking options, I think it's important to note in today's game that there needs to be a player or players who can play on those damaging half backs such as Malcevski in round one,Gibbs and Goddard and the like.

So having said that who would you pick round one to play on Malcevski?

If he is picked, possibly Pedersen... purely because of his experience playing in the back line.

Pederson and Dawes are good defensively but do the have the run, perhaps a leaner Pedrson could do the job .

JKH for me. He can chase and tackle plus his disposal of the ball is pretty good. If bail gets it he turns it over.

I'm thinking Bail, Kent ,Salem as they have to be able to run well cover ground quickly and snaffle goals when the opportunity arises.

Pedersons preseason has been interesting as he has lost weight and toned down, he has good endurance,so being lighter might give him a bit more closing speed. JKH could be a little short for the role.

I was responding to the question in the OP, as opposed to the thread title.

I think Watts is capable of playing on a Malceski type. He has the engine to go with Goddard (although let's not forget mckenzie's job on Goddard a couple of seasons back.

If the question is about our best defensive forward, that would be Garlett.

I don't think my Watts response is taking anywhere near the quantity of urine as those who have said Dawes. Regardless of which question they chose to answer, Dawes is far from the answer to either of them.

Not always, and it's a changing landscape, especially with the increase in the importance of the HBF.

A couple of years ago Watts played a dedicated defensive HFF role on Sam Fisher against St Kilda. Watts got towelled up, but his role as a HFF was to go to their running HBF. Dunn used to be a great defensive HFF, as he would kick goals.

Can't remember who the player is, maybe at Adelaide, that Roos had one of our players tag off a HBF last season.

Didn't rate this guy until the end of last year.. Forever held a grudge when he couldn't make the distance from 45 against Collingwood in 2010 rd2. But he has turned the corner.. Lets hope Roo's turns him into a kirk like figure!
