On What basis would you give him a new contract at the end of this year

What criteria would you use?

Based on how and if he recovers and what the medico's see as his future.

If towards the end of the year he comes back and trains and starts to play at Casey even limited time the staff will have some idea of how he is going.

No one is suggesting that he doesn't have the footy smarts and talent - it is purely whether his body will let him play at the highest level. I suggest by the end of the year the medico's will have an opinion and a new contract will be based on that opinion.

If there is some confidence that he can physically get back to the Trengove of his first two years as opposed to the slow as treacle and can't kick over 40 metres Trengove of the last 2 years then he may get another contract.

The problem most of us have is I have used a fair amount of the word "if" above.

What a stupid, inane, misguided and pathetic statement is your middle line from that post. Trenners is in the same league as Watts. Both would perhaps make it into the squads of just a few other clubs and maybe get several games per year but that is a best case scenario. JT just has no wow factor nor will he ever be a matchwinner. Jones is so far ahead of him as a leader and player, he has lapped him. Trenners may be a handy fill in type, but that is as good as it will get with him. Good luck to him but do not expect him to be a saviour with us. Injuries are too much of a hurdle for him to ever have a real impact.

A person has an opinion that some people would share and others not share. That does not make that opinion "stupid, inane, misguided and pathetic". Ironic that you then give your opinion that some would share and others not share. You could equally make those disparaging comments about your own opinion. Using personal and insulting comments about another's opinion is why so many posters get fed up with the site. We have just got over the hoo ha with TDI however after the initial melee everyone responded in a mature way allowing for the dialogue around training reports to continue. Your opinion is a reasonable one. Your slanging off at RGRS is not.

A lot here have forgotten how good he was in his first 2 years when 100% fit, which is what the OP asks in his hypothetical scenario.

Sadly for many reasons we have not seen the best of him for a long time, a fit Trengove is very much in our plans moving forward. I hope we see it and I have no doubt he has the application and drive to succeed, the big if for me is Jack's body needs to allow this to happen. I hope for his sake and the sake of the Team we see him returning to full fitness and reap the benefits

Is he in good spirits ? Apparently. Is he hanging tough...also seems he is. And thats good..

He doesnt JUST need his fitness base.. Please lets talk about realities. He needs a fitness base upon which to build a match fitness state. he needs a lot of match time in the magoos before stepping forth in the seniors Id suggest to test himself and see if ( and thats not a when , but an if ) his foot stands up to the workload.

I dont want him NOT to play footy again. I'd love him to and especially for us.I DO remember the Trengove (of the 2nd season ) and if he could get back to that , it would still only be a start as hes got a fair few in front of him currently.

There are seemingly two issues here. The many address the one, i.e is he a decent chap etc Has he shown gumption and determination to play and maybe play for us ? YES. Good and good for him. Its valiant and commendable.

But the real issue is. Will he get to ? Personally. i seriously doubt it. But hey, hope he does

I am backing him to get back to training and playing..but to what standard.

From my understanding of this type of injury , the jury is out for me on whether his foot will ever allow him to get to the necessary fitness ( or hold up under game conditions) to play 100 minutes of AFL footy.

The picture of his withered calf muscle shows me he will spend the best part of this year getting to any sort of condition to play at Casey ( let alone Melbourne).

As I said above - I will back him in to get back to full training and testing himself at Casey. I am uncertain whether he can come back to being an integral member of the team playing good footy week in and week out like he was showing he could in 2011.

I love his passion and determination so I am hoping the best for him.

I think in the complete context of my post I have covered that and there are past and continuing issues with his body.

fair enough - I think most of us agree it is not talent and drive to succeed that is going to keep him off the park. To me it is purely and simply if he can his body back to 2011 levels. He was more than handy in his second year.

I suspect confidence in what his body can do will be his biggest challenge if he recovers.

Sorry to pick out just this comment but JTs game sense and footy IQ are exceptional. He is/was absolutely a match winner. Not in the Jeff Farmer sense but you may recall his match winning efforts for Sturt prior to getting drafted or his match winning effort to win a match against Port in Darwin a few years back.

I think people only remember the version of him hampered by his foot, moving slower than Brock McLean and not the inspirational, quick minded, determined, reliable player he was before.

Sadly if he remains restricted by his foot as he has over the past couple of years he may not have a place in the team. However if and yes that's a big if, he can return to full fitness, then he is absolutely in our best 22.
