New Year Honours

Traditionally, the New Year's Honours were bestowed by royalty to worthy recipients who usually worked selflessly and tirelessly sucking up to those responsible for assessing the candidates for nomination.

My awards aren't like that at all - I look for people who are really special so my NY nomination goes to one of that rare breed of human who is humble and willing to make enormous sacrifices for the betterment of mankind; to a man who has given up the opportunity to play for the most popular football club in the world to join the long suffering, downtrodden and oppressed Melbourne Demons.

Listen to Heritier Lumumba as he describes his love for his former coach and captain and his personal development from his early days as plain old Harry O'Brien to the his present glory as royalty personified.

Along the way, Heritier has seen much doom, gloom and a fair measure of tragedy which makes him such a perfect fit as the Melbourne Football Club's recruit of 2015 ~

nothing for earl :o

in fact i heard there was a move to revoke his current honours

still, if rolfy can hang onto his , he'll probably be ok with all his hipster friends

The Earl will be devastated if that is so. He was very confident of being recognised. He may well top himself if worst comes to worst!!

DC oh how bad news travels fast! Yes I was refused entry to the Governor's Christmas tea party over a purely administrative oversight I believe, my name was not on their guest list. And yes some time later I was detained by security staff trying to mount the back fence to Government House from the Botanical Gardens to gain entry. Yes there was an unfortunate scene caught by ACA cameras that I now regret but my people are dealing with it and I have refused all requests for interviews with Tracy Grimshaw.

Let me assure you DC that I am following up these issues with Westminster pronto!

Once you are an earl, there is only marquess and duke to go, and those are the privilege of the sovereign alone, IIRC. Hence expecting the New Years Honours (which are Australia Day honours in this country) to announce an award of a marquis or a duke is a bit like expecting someone from neither of the teams in the Grand Final to get the Norm Smith medal ...

What a bunch of scoundrels . I'm disappointed Governor General Cosgrove accepted a knighthood from the " No Surprises Man " . I've more respect for the likes of our Bodyline captain ,Bill Woodfull , and more recently , David Bowie , who famously declined the "honour" .

New Years Honours should go to Jack Watts who i saw in good form down at Lorne Falls Festival. Before anyone jumps down his or my throat, he seemed very well behaved.

Also saw a couple of players from other clubs, who i cannot say the same thing about though...

Happy New Year gang!

Watts did look very well behaved when I saw him too but that nose jewelry he had going on was horrific!

I saw a few other players too and the most cooked award would be a tie between a Port player and a Bulldog. Both had plates for eyes when I saw them. I wonder if they were the same guys that you saw?

Ahah nah mine was a Don' and a Cat. Won't name, names but they're held in high regard. They were chain smoking cigarettes like it was going out of fashion (suppose it kinda is!)

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
