Another good day at training

News: Tapscott has a back injury so it looks like game over for him

HL had a bit of work done during the session, I asked him as he left the session early, just his body getting back into it

Big Maxy did a bit of ruck work, marking and kicking, so he is on his way back again

Pics will be up on my Twitter Demonpk

Simon Goodwin took a session of stoppage work with a group, nice bit of Jeff Garlett and JKH having a bit of a tussle, smiles all around

Squad split at the end of session and a group went to pound up Anderson's Hill, went to watch and take pics, the players that surprised me Viney, Grimes and Toumpas,

I assume that means 'good' surprised as in impressed? How did they impress you?

Thanks, you old INXS song.

I sent WJ a few pictures of you from the tele, ask him to send them to you or post them on DL.

Yes, Viney looks like he is going to explode every drill he does, and he flew up Anderson's Hill, Grimes looks really fit, hope you can see both in pics, I posted, Toumpas was running with Nate Jones and burnt him off again

Edit because what I originally typed was influenced by the rather nice young lady at the tram stop outside the café I am sitting in

Thanks TDI. I don't have twitter to see your pics. Find that I can see twitter pics when the link is in a post.

BTW any news about how Jack Watts has been training so far?

From club website pics he looks the same size...not necessarily a bad thing. I'm desperate for him to have a great year. His sake as well as ours.

Viney looking absolutely ridiculous in one of those pictures, Saty. Insane size

Viney is genetic, you have to remember the size of his Dad, they are strictly controlling what he does though, apart from the size, he did heaps of work over the break on his running, as I said looks like he is primed for a big year.

As for Watts, during the session he is doing laps with Andew Nicol, who for his size is a running machine, Watts' is looking really good at the sessions progress, Nichol had him hunched over once today, thought he was going to produce breakfast, but took a quick break and did another gut buster.....obviously Roos has laid down he needs to build his tank

I wandered passed at close to 11, they'd obviously been going at it for a while by then.

Unsighted: Trengove, Spencer, Terlich, Dawes

Lumumba had done some light running that I saw. Dunny was out there pounding away some interval training with a trainer. He looks very strong.

Jamar doing some one on one work with Stafford. Pretty relaxed stuff really. Vince and Gawn had been doing running together, laps and then over to the Paddock before they joined in with Jamar. Vince kicking it up, Jamar, Gawn and then Watts practicing pushing off from Miller and then breaking to the drop of the ball and marking. It was relaxed stuff for these guys by then.

Speaking of Watts. He was doing some grueling running with one of the staff. Plenty of laps and also short burst repeat sprints. I'm not sure who's idea it is - either Watts' or the staffs. But I think the penny has dropped a bit and it's Watts' time to really cop some hard work. No more excuses not to have AFL midfielder level fitness and to put in the repeat efforts in games.

Main group drills:

End to end kicking - focus on moving the ball quickly. Decent footskills for most and nice marking. (McKenzie floating it short, Fitzy dropping a simple mark with the ball bouncing off his hands, usual stuff). JKH, Salem and Billy Stretch all looking sharp in this drill. Billy is a decent size, not overly tall, not heavy but he's got some muscles. At the whistle the guys would run as a group up and down the centre line before starting in the next position. A good way to get repeat sprints in.

At one stage Roos wasn't happy and ordered a 400 (or it was preordered from Misson). Maxy King was last in one of the groups. But I tell you what he's a beautiful kick. If we get him up to scratch physically I'd say he'd be one of the best kicks for a ruckman in the entire league.

5 v 3 handball. 5 guys get the ball, work it passed 3 defenders until they get it to the other end. 3 of the 5 attackers become the defenders the other way. A nice way to work on forward pressure and repeat efforts.

As mentioned Goodwin had a group of smalls - Garlett, JKH, Stretch, Bail and a couple of others and was practicing using a fend to break tackles. His focus is on the little things when he takes these groups.

They then split roughly in half (of those that were left). Saty obviously followed the half over to the tan. I caught up with them later when I did my own lap of the tan. It's fair to say they went up the hill a bit quicker than I did!

Repeat 300's followed by sprints were the order for the group still at Gosch's. They went out in pairs with Kent being the most impressive. He went out in the 2nd pair (possibly Bail and Tyson in pair 1 but I'm not entire sure) and he was burning Hogan off the mark, catching close to the group behind and holding his margin. Working really hard and looking fit. JKH and Stretch were in group 3 and both were running well. Garlett and Garland were together. They didn't make an impression on those in front. To be honest I was a bit disappointed. I don't know where Colin Garland is at, maybe still building fitness from last year?

Newton and Riley were in the last group. Both were struggling. They did some different work where they would lead out and Tom McDonald would follow in behind. He caught them pretty early in the 200-300m runs they did. I think it's fair to say if both want to be AFL midfielders they need to lift. Riley put a gap ahead of Newton though. It's his first week but we might be seeing why Port weren't too disappointed in letting Newton go. Hopefully it's just adapting to our trainings.

Now the important things.

Crowd watch: Solid crowd. Nice to see a couple of cops working hard stopping by and having a look

Toilet watch: Still no toilets. Players taken to the cycling method of relieving themselves, the out the bottom of the bike shorts. Jack Grimes up against the bin. In full view of the cops as well. No fines for public urination. I know we aren't flush with funds (excuse the pun) but I'm still surprised we can't organise a public toilet.

disapponting news on the sanitation front

maybe od could bring it up at the next agm?

saty, any chance you could quiz roosy or jacko?

in the meantime maybe biffo could get his mates in the cfmeu to drop in a portable or two?

Hogan is a beast!! Looks the goods.

Hope this man child stays injury free because he will tear them up.

Er ... I did get the pictures.

One was with Chip Frawley which I included in an article (Godbye Chip Frawley or somewhere else) and the other is this.

The common thread is Satyr with blokes possibly on their way out. Not a good look.

Does Saty do Xmas gigs ?? ^_^

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
