Former Etihad Stadium boss Ian Collins advised Port Adelaide against signing the contentious Adelaide Oval agreement, warning chairman David Koch that the club would be broke within three seasons under the deal it was being offered.

Hearing these stories makes me really glad at the people we've currently got in. Peter Jackson is a very good operator, and I hope he'll extend his time here. The key for our expansion and financial improvement is heavily weighted on us finally delivering on the field. There's only so much they can do when the fans are supporting a long time poorly performing team.

This is now underway. Both Clubs have actually had their promised uplift in takings with the Crows $4m and Port $3m up. Port couldn't sell their corporate facilities. Both Clubs losses would have been much higher at Aami. The issues being faced now will be sorted and all parties will be financially satisfied. Both Clubs were offered the Catering rights OR the Corporate Facilities, and both chose the Corporates. They should have taken the Catering rights. The SANFL no longer own the Liscences. Please, before you comment, know the facts. The move to AO will be the best thing to happen to both Clubs in the not too distant future. They will be sorted and Port can look forward to a very bright future.

Its what generally happens as a business model matures

Far too many people taking far too bigger a cut of the action

It will get worse and worse in time till they redesign the whole thing and call it ""SUPERLEAGUE" or some such twaddle

But it wont work because too many vested interests and the beautiful game we all love will be gone replaced but a mere shadow of its self

Really without afl support power and lions would be dead, if they were nfl teams they would of been dead and buried by now. The Lions were dead in 1997 that's why Fitzroy were killed so the bears could get the 6 million in merge money, which paid their debt and Fitzroy debt, remember our debt was only half as much as Brisbane is now.

There is too much being spent on Football Departments and Stadiums.

The Goose cannot lay the eggs fast enough at present.

Something has to be changed or 5 or six clubs will go under by the end of this decade.

As long as one of them is not the MFC it will not worry me there are too many at present.

Play each other twice and the talent pool will not be stretched to include 80 - 100 players who are not good enough.

I don't know about that. The TV rights are currently at 1bil for 5 years, could get to 1.5bil for 5 years.

Footy department costs average out at 20mil and are now being capped (about 10 years too late).

The talent pool is an issue. But we are only just getting serious about the Northern states and for the last 4 years GWS and Gold Coast (and Sydney with big free agent signings) have sucked a whole bunch of talent from the other clubs. It should now flip and the Northern state development programs should contribute talent to the pool if set up fairly. Otherwise they will at least contribute to the northern sides talent pools. Yay for that I guess.

The bigger issue is just resolving where the money is going. Too many are greedy and sucking money from the game.

The SANFL in South Australia are a great example. They are being paid for AFL licenses by the clubs. They are sucking money from Adelaide Oval through the food and drink and the stadium deal. They use this cash to sustain a state league at higher costs than the VFL or WAFL despite Adelaide being a smaller city. The move to Adelaide Oval gave them the same income streams that AAMI did and also freed up AAMI stadium to be sold off as pretty valuable land.

The cleaning costs for Adelaide Oval and the astronomical bill from the traffic management company are another example. Same can be said for Demetriou's ridiculous bonus salaries that sucked millions from the game in to his fat pockets.

Every time there is a big increase in TV rights the comment is all is now good and all clubs will be debt free.

Guess what a couple of years in everyone has taken a Bigger cut and a sizeable number of clubs are again in the Red.

Improved TV revenue IMO is not the answer. Better use of the funds generated is the answer.

The AFL has to get this sorted it is their area of control.
