Jack Trengove re-injures his navicular (2014) - trade deal off

Featured Replies

Roos and Co were bought in to make the tough call so that the team can improve, they would not be making this move unless they believed there was considerable upside for the team in some way or another. While the love for trenners is admirable it was only 6 months ago that half of this board was calling for him to be dropped. While I like the guy, I want to see improvements so I am sure I am probably going to like who ever they procure to replace him also, more so if he can really play football.

To help people make a balanced view of all this, I can reveal that the Demons are looking to trade into the Top 15 in order to offer two first round picks, in this case 3, 12, for Dayne Beams.

Paul Connors has conceded that Brisbane is not an unlikely option for Dayne now, and you will notice that Collingwood are now publicly reporting they are open to other offers for Dayne.

Melbourne is asking for pick 48 in return from Coll, and this is believed to be enough to get Sam Frost into the club. It's believed Collingwood will only have 4 picks at the draft this year, and with 3, Moore, 12 and 30, then 48 may not be required anyhow. However there is work to be done to convince Dayne to accept terms with another Vic club, but I'm confident in what I'm hearing that remaining @ Collingwood is now his last resort.

Pick 3, 12 for Beams and 48

Or in effect

Frawley, Trengove and pick 23 for Beams and Frost

How does that look everyone? Win wins around I think...

My credibility in all this? I can't give away my place of employment but im in regular contact with Connors Sports Management, Dayne's management group, and have been particular busy today as his future today included Melbourne entering the picture...

Plenty to play out but the above will become public knowledge soon enough I'm sure, happy to give my fellow Demonlanders the marginal heads up first

After Mahoney said that Richmond came to us with the deal, the idea that it's part of a mega-deal is just wishful thinking now.

Not really. If we didn't want the pick 12 we wouldn't have floated the move with Trengove and risked upsetting him as well the supporter base. This has all the hallmarks of a carefully considered release aimed at preparing us for what comes next.

If they're coming to us with that deal, it's pretty average to be honest.

If we're actively shopping him than you can see us getting below value but for them to offer up that to a contracted player is surprising.

More surprising is Melbourne haven't made a coweee to try and get more value out of the trade.

Now i know for sure Roos wants Massive improvement next year.....not just a piddly 2-3 spot increment....

Paul Roos has 2 seasons to fire up this old girl...The MFC is becoming ruthless from today.....

We've been saying this for 5 years WYL.. From today, from today, from today.

If we do this deal, we're still stuck with 3 draft picks and are losing a player we've put 4 years work into and haven't seen a full season from since he was drafted; his best year at the club.

He's got a proper midfield to work with, a coach who finally understands football & belief the club is going somewhere. I'd be disappointed if we threw him out on the heap to gain a 10 place improvement in the middle of the first round..

Like Nasher said, they came to us, so there's no big deal in the waitings as far as we know. I'd be far happier keeping him for one more year and trading him for pick 30, than trade him for a ******* 10 place upgrade.

If you want to keep a player then you shut it down as soon as the opposition approaches and don't even mention it to the player in question. We've mentioned it to Trengove. We must want pick 12 for a reason to float the prospect of leaving to Trengove. No other reason to upset a player unnecessarily.

more than likely? this offer was put weeks back ?

it could mean we've changed tack, since yesterday. we may have got back to the tiges?

Everyone is tradeable!

If this is going to happen. There is definitely something big in the pipeline for us. I'm going to throw it out there and say we are looking at gaining 2 Mids and a KP. Especially with Trengove out.

I suspect if the Giants land Griffin and have too give up there Pick 4 and possibly more. They will want to trade back into Round 1 calcations. I'm thinking Pick 3 & 12 may just get us Sheil, Frost & Pick 19/or another Mid (eg.Whiley).

We are 99% definitely looking too trade Pick 3 & 12.

Maybe, Dangerfield is possible and we just have too satisfy the trade.

I cannot see us trading both Picks 2 & 3. Brayshaw is a 99% lock I would think!

2 things happened around yesterday, Danger got back from the beach (add thinking music) apparently up North, & the Beams deal fell over with the Lions.

I ask the question, are the Pies needing picks to get they're own dealings done, & if so, is Beams the product of sale. & why

Danger is the man of the hour, with so much quietness in trade week till this morning, after he returned.... Now its all hustle.

Is Beams worth P-3 & P-12, or would we be better served with Petracca & Laverde ?

This is what we did with MC that didn't turn out too good. I know we couldn't foresee the injuries etc but still.

If his story of going to Qld cause of his dad is bs or only a very minor reason he wants out then he (beams) may consider it.

Thanks for sharing your info.

Wow!!!! If true.

TBH I wonder why Richmond would be interested in Trengove?

I love Trenners, but I will never forget the game a couple of years ago, where I watched Hawthorns new recruit, a 30+ Cameron Bruce, out run him and kick a goal (his first for the Hawks) - I was devastated!

Unfortunatley Jack is slow (and it's not just his foot injury) and yes, I would take pick 12 for him.

Trenners to tigers....Computer says no

If it's not for a well known player, could pick 3&12 be traded to the Saints for pick 1&20(?) to get Petracca and Brayshaw?

You're my new favourite poster. I don't even care if you're lying.

This is what "everyone is tradeable" looks like.

No point throwing our hands in the air, this is typical of the kinds of trades that many here have been proposing in regards to players from other clubs coming to the Dees.

Back from dinner....great point.

Not happy with the idea at all and it would give me even more reason to despise the feral Tigers.

Trenners is still slow and always under pressure when he has the ball though....

Stuck with 3 draft picks in the Top 15?? You see this as a problem?

With 17 clubs salivating to get at them....We need Players....Class ones...not just nice blokes.

The timing makes sense. The trade deadline for Brisbane comes and goes, the trengove bomb is dropped.

Dees, Collingwood and Richmond engage the plan.

Circumstancial but corroborative.

I remember that too Moose. Cam gave the Members the fist...and i felt sick.

I want to beat those bastards....regularly.

The JT bashers would love it if this happens - the same haters who talk about loyalty.

Fess up, where are you hiding now?

Jumbo, more to the point, where are the "in Roos we trust" people.

This clearly isn't a case of we're bored lets do something crazy, Viney and Mahoney have been at the club for years whilst Roos, Stone and Goodwin are well aware of who Jack is and what he is capable of.

In Roos we trust... unless he does something we don't agree with.

I must admit I panicked when I first heard of this deal. The possibility that it's part of a bigger picture + the knowledge that even if it's not, these blokes know what they're doing has calmed me significantly.

Surely there is far far more to this than any of us here know anything about: MUST be part of something huge.

Or some sort of Roos ruse.

Watch this space.

After reading the article on the club website, I've a feeling this will eventuate.

Paul Ruse.

Anyone? Anyone...

The club's response would suggest this is happening. Didn't need to say anything at all, or could have flat out said no (see Leppa's tweet re Pendles yesterday). Will be sad to see him go, but it's a ruthless industry.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.
