Confused why he wasn't given a run when Blease and Nicho were.

I still think he has something to add to the list.

Good luck to him!

Good luck to him.

I hope we can get a trade of anyform eventhough it's highly unlikely.

If not, I hope he can at least get picked up as a rookie. Seemed like a good bloke.

He is unlucky. A beautiful kick, big body, I thought he had the skills and poise. Had a good season with Casey. Personally I was shocked he did not get a gig under Roos. There must be more to the story;

Was never the same after his broken leg. A real shame. He showed some good form at times. Strauss is a guy I hope will succeed. Best of luck.

One of the weakest one on one defenders I can recall at Melbourne. Some of his kicking was alright, but certainly never looked elite. A bad pick by BP, so what's new?

agreed 100%

for all the talk about his elite kicking there is zero evidence of it

Will be shocked if another club picks him up

Not at AFL level. But at VFL level he has a super high disposal efficiency and can lace out passes over 50-60m. Same thing at training. Very clean.

The issue for him is despite getting better and better as the season went on with finding the ball and even kicking some goals he never improved defensively.

If he was reasonable defensively you'd give him a whole season at AFL level and his kicking and run would bloom. It was starting to before he broke his leg.

He'll likely only get another shot on a rookie list if at all. So you can't really blame the club, it's very likely they'll be proven right. But what annoys me is when we are rubbish anyway why not swing for the fences with guys who can actually use the ball. Roos' theory is clearly play the hardest, toughest defensive players we have then build from there. It's great when it gets actual improvement like at the start of the year. But by the end of the season we were so horrible again it's like why not just play Strauss. They played Watts every week.

I would have thought we might have looked at rookieing him, but given he couldn't get a place at all in 2014, I think that signals Roos' intentions pretty clearly.

Would have liked for him to have a run late in the season. Could not have been worse than half of our best 22 judging by the efforts in the final 4 or 5 rounds.

I was intrigued to see him as well, ADC. Even Blease got a run, but it obviously says Roos doesn't rate him/he didn't/couldn't improve his defensive game enough.

Surprised he didn't get a game late in the season. He was in pretty good form at Casey in the last half of the year.

If they can't find a trade for him, I wouldn't be surprised if we rookie draft him back in like Neville Jetta last year.

I can see where you're coming from jezhug, but why, if he was in pretty good form in the last half of the year, did he not get a game? I don't think there's much chance we'll offer him a rookie spot, given we didn't even offer him games, when he was on the senior list and apparently playing well at Casey. I just don't see it.

They might have thought by playing him it would decrease his trade value. :)

He does have fringe player written all over him, but could be a handy rookie for some clubs.

James simply does not get hold of the Sherrin often enough to impress.

Another first round pick that hasn't lived to there expectation.

Were these guys just no good or was it the unstubilitly of the club over the past 7 years?

I just can't get my head around how we have got some wrong.

I'm no expert/recruiter, but I've watched enough footy over my 27 years to suggest that he was simply a poor pick. Not once did he hint that there might be something there to work with. In fact, his one supposed weapon looked mediocre at league level.

I think all supporters tend to overrate their players, no matter their team. Some Demonlanders may well have based these opinions on hope too.

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the

Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’
