Evidence that Roosy doesn't give a toss what Rohan Welsh thinks.

Another high draft pick (19) who was of VFL standard.

We blew so many chances it is no wonder we are where we are....

Wish the AFL would get their facts right.

"Strauss, pick No. 18 in the 2008 NAB AFL Draft, has played 77 games for the Demons."

Trade for a mid-first rounder??

Lovely kick, but never once showed any appetite for the contest at AFL level. Makes Watts look like a competitive beast - at least Jack has shown something (see last qtr vs Tigers this year).

It's a shame he won't make it - his composure with the footy was exactly what we lack in defence.

I can't believe this bloke is still on our list. I'm sure he looks wonderful in training drills when there is little or no pressure around, but his much vaunted skills disappear as soon as there is the faintest hint of pressure in a game, mainly because his decision making is so poor. I don't think he has improved one iota from the day he was drafted.

I can't see him being picked up.

Was surprised he was picked up in the first place.

The news report at the time of the draft was that they guy they wanted at that pick was gone, so there was a mad scramble to pick another guy.

BP and Benny Hill music go hand in hand.

Come on mate, do you seriously think that Strauss' value has actually improved over the duration of his career?

That is truly astonishing.

God, I only draft at bloody fantasy NBA level and I know who I'm going to take each round if my next pick is gone. You rate the whole draft 1-100!!

Can't believe we employed these muppets for so long.

This is spot on in my opinion. Might have all of the tools but is mentally not up to it.

The guy they wanted was probably Blease.

He is unlucky. A beautiful kick, big body, I thought he had the skills and poise. Had a good season with Casey. Personally I was shocked he did not get a gig under Roos. There must be more to the story;

I've been a long time support of Strauss, but he just doesn't have it mentally.

He's simply not a competitor.

He started to become one a couple of years ago after stringing some good competitive games together, but then broke his leg.

He came back from injury where he was beforehand - a skilful, unobtrusive, unassertive defender.

He never got any competitive momentum back.

No they must have targeted Strauss. They had interviewed Rory Sloane at least twice. They (Barry Prenderghast) had promised Rory and his dad Brandon he was going to Melbourne 1st round.

I read somewhere (it may have been a theory) that because of his laidback attitude, he didnt impress. I dont know. Hes just soft spoken.

I do know that the double of Blease chosen at 17, being very much an outside player under Rory at Eastern Ranges and a total of 3 MFC picks before AFC picked Rory (around 50?)created a bad mouthing of MFC that just keeps on giving.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The winds finally returned to Casey Fields for the Demons’ third home game of the VFL season, and its impact was immediate. After two opening rounds played in uncharacteristically fine conditions, the Anzac Day clash brought back the familiar gusty conditions that have been a feature of the region at this time of the year.
Forced to kick into the breeze first, the slow-starting Demons faced a tricky opening against an enthusiastic young Tigers outfit. Casey responded by turning the contest into a scramble, pressuring Richmond into errors and missed targets. The tactic proved crucial, keeping the game tight for three and a half quarters before the Demons pulled away with the autumn wind at their backs.

  • REPORT: Richmond

It seemed as if the whole purpose of the Anzac Eve clash at the MCG between the Demons and the Tigers was building toward that single, unforgettable moment when Kozzie Pickett soared above Campbell Gray and all but fittingly etched his name onto the face of the 2026 Frank ‘Checker’ Hughes Medal.
