So there really is such thing as karma

sutra?

It's obvious that Dayne Beams needs a change of environment and Nathan Buckley and Collingwood shouldn't stand in the way of that need...

indeed after all they're actully doing the supportive thing in welcoming Clark on board. Such saints

Here's an emotional post from a Collingwood fan qldmagpie 67 on Nick's Bulletin Board which explains the human side of the story.

Firstly I am stunned by the absolute panning some posters are giving Dayne. This is no con job to drive his price up or take a very lucrative offer from another club. This is a young man who lives away from a father who he is extremely close to and finding out that his fathers health is now in a dire place. I challenge anyone on here to not do something similar if they had the chance to be close to a parent who is facing the same situation.

I am disgusted by some of these comments and those who have posted them should really take a deep breathe and realize some things in life are bigger than football.

Let me put the facts together for you all which I have garnered by speaking to some mutual friends last night.

His dad has been sick for some time (all his mates have known that) but no one not even Dayne knew the extent of his illness until very recently.

His father had choosen to keep the gravity of his illness from his kids (and mates)

Recently the diagnosis became a lot worse than he first expected and thus the circumstances changed drastically.

Dayne's mother actually flew to Melbourne to deliver Dayne the news in person and to be there for him.

Now I haven't been able to speak to his dad by phone ( I am planning on going to the gold coast this weekend to see him in person now I have found out more)

Dayne found out the gravity of the situation last week and firstly rang Eddie to tell him. I am told Eddie told him to take some time and get his head together and get back to the club when he has been through everything that has happened.

Apparently Dayne rang Eddie within an hour of finding out the news.

Dayne has fulfilled his obligations to the club in attending the Brownlow and has been working with his mother, brother and sister on what they feel is in the best interests of there father and his family (remembering his father has been divorced from his mother for nearly 20yrs)

Dayne is extremely close to his father and it was his father who was a fair country player himself that developed Dayne's love of the game and the basic skills.

Now I've been informed Dayne has been absolutely gutted by the turn of events and is torn between being there for his father and having to make a decision to leave a club who has been great to him since his career began.

Dayne and his family have been weighing up all there options after getting a full understanding of the situation his father is facing and he has been trying to make a decision.

A couple days ago Dayne met Eddie, Pert and Bucks privately (without his management just with his mother) to update them on the situation.

Eddie has been fantastic to Dayne and his family since Dayne arrived and again has with this new situation. Now this is a kid torn between the love of his father and the love of his club.

I am told his father isn't willing to relocate to Melbourne to continue his treatment as he wants to be close to his mates (plus he would be leaving Claye so it would be trading one son for another) so it has limited the options available to Dayne.

At 10pm last night I spoke to a mutual mate of ours who happens to be the father of one of Dayne's best mates and he said Dayne had been in contact with them and said the club is working on ways to make it easy for him to be able get home weekly or more often if required as a possible solution to Dayne's dilemma.

My understanding is Eddie again has been fantastic and basically told Dayne his father is the most important factor is this and the club would do everything in its capabilities to assist Dayne through this.

Now Dayne and the club are working together to see if they can find a way of Dayne staying in Melbourne and being a magpie but also him being able to spend time with his father who currently isn't sure of how much time he has left.

Tough choices need to be made from both sides of the fence. I can understand the club wanting to be fairly compensated for a elite player that's the business they are in and rightly so. I can also very much understand Dayne's side as well knowing him and his family for nearly 20yrs it's a absolute shocking situation for them to be in.

Everyone can debate what is a fair compensation for Dayne IF he leaves (and this is far from decided yet give Eddie a chance to work his magic here folks. If there is one thing our president can do is work magic) before we start making outlandish statements about a player who has given a lot to the club in his time here.

If anyone out there is stupid enough to believe this is a decision about $$ then they are so far removed from the facts it's unbelievable. If this was a financial decision Dayne could have lined his pockets at the end of 2012 and taken a lot more $$ gone to the Suns then but he decided to stay with the club on less (and I'm told it was a lot less as well over $100-$150k a season) so its not the money guys. He knows full well if he stayed at collingwood he would be rewarded financially as well.

Going forward lets all take a deep breathe and let Dayne and the club try to sort through this situation.

Thanks WJ, its a good read to get an understanding.

Will be interesting what the Lions are putting up to offer here. Surely you would think they would be chasing Dayne more than Paddy with there existing ruck supplies.

If they jag Beams they will be quite a handy outfit next year

They need to get out of his way and let him go home. Absolute no brainer.

I work with a relation of his and said his dad isnt that bad but I'll double check tomorrow. Said he wanted out for one reason, Buckley.

Aparently the only player who likes Bucks is Pendles everyone else thinks he is a dick.

He just built a house in Melbourne somewhere and his mum moved down here recently.

As i said will double check but from what Ive been told the main reason is the senior coach.

Beams at Collingwood =

1st for clearances and inside 50s.

2nd for possessions and contested possessions

3rd for goals

Don't forget Luke Ball is gone too (3rd for clearances, 4th for tackles).

Sidebottom, Pendlebury and what's left of Swan will all need to play more time in the middle, reducing their regular contribution to rebounding.

That exacerbates the departure of Maxwell and Lumumba, leaving basically a couple of kids and Clinton Young to try to provide drive for Collingwood's counterattacks.

Under Buckley, Collingwood have managed three fewer wins each year, going from 20 wins in Matlhouse's last season (2011), to 16 wins, 14, 11...

Seems like something special has now been pulled out to keep that rolling.

Post of the year?

Beams gone, Ball gone, Lumumba gone, Swan cooked

Pies are cooked

Even their great white hopes from last seasons draft top 10. Scharenberg and Freeman, were injured most of last season and are no sure thing to become good players

They are in real strife and isnt it great to watch

But they look like getting Mitch.

Leuenberger/Martin supplying Rich, Redden, Beams, Rockliff, Hanley, Aish, Mayes, Taylor. Wow.

Full credit to them. They were ripped apart by the 'Go Home 5' but absolutely picked the eyes out of the draft last year with Aish, Taylor, Gardiner, McStay, Cutler, Robertson.

Melbourne desperately needs a similar draft haul this year.

They're weaker in key position players, but yes, I see a rise for Brisbane coming soon. Game needs it too, so that suits me fine.

The beams situation doesn't seem good for our chase for Dangerfield. Bring the Pies right into the equation and it's not only us who can satisfy both the Crows and Patty.

Agree with stinga's thoughts re the Dane Beams Defection

P.S. Does anyone else think that this thread title sounds like the kind of name that a late 60's early 70's pop band would have adopted?

Sorry , had to chuckle slightly. Everyones worrying about this or that. The actual Trade Week hasnt started yet. Anything and everything to date is just like the start of old Americas Cup races with yachts jockeying for a starting position, trying to out fox the other. when the week proper starts and certainly as the end games start to appear then clubs will take to their powder, until then its a game, within a game.

Popcorn anyone

Could not agree more bb.

the interesting thing for me is the new regime at the MFC seem so far to be leak proof.

No one comments until the situation is finalised.

I am amused every time I see in here that we are chasing x player.

99.9% of us have absolutely no idea who Roos, PJ and company have in mind.

We have invested our future survival in this group.

so far they have performed well and have my confidence.

I wait to see what our list looks like come November.

Interesting time ahead.

Oh yes it is!

Edit:-

There are tree ways to the top.

1 Other sides get worse.

2 You improve your side.

3 One and two.

Collingwood faltering is part 1

No its not. You want to play in our comp that's the deal. Just like the drugs code you sign up to.

If you don't want to play, fine. Go somewhere else.

God help us if we end up like the EPL.

I know it is the deal, I'm not an idiot. But the 'deal' is just a construct, you can make a sport and a league work any way you want to.

The last sentence is just your opinion.

You might notice the EPL has pretty strong rights of ownership over players too. The only real difference is end of contract and I see no reason why players should be stopped from moving to the club of their choice, within some broad restrictions like not in the first couple of years, for example. That's just my opinion!

Disagree to an extent. A lot of deals are done before trade week.

Players often nominate the club they want to go to before trade week as well.

I wouldn't be leaving everything to trade week, or you end up with other clubs' scraps.

Agree, except that I wait to see what our list is like on the 17th of October at about 2.30PM.

  • PREVIEW: Sydney

The two teams competing at the MCG on Sunday afternoon have each traversed a long and arduous path since their previous encounter on a sweltering March evening in Sydney a season and a half ago. Both experienced periods of success at various times last year. The Demons ran out of steam in midseason while the Swans went on to narrowly miss the ultimate prize in the sport. Now, they find themselves outside of finals contention as the season approaches the halfway mark. The winner this week will remain in contact with the leading pack, while the loser may well find itself on a precipice, staring into the abyss. The current season has presented numerous challenges for most clubs, particularly those positioned in the middle tier. The Essendon experience in suffering a significant 91-point loss to the Bulldogs, just one week after defeating the Swans, may not be typical, but it illustrates the unpredictability of outcomes under the league’s present set up.

  • REPORT: Brisbane

“Max Gawn has been the heart and soul of the Dees for years now, but this recent recovery from a terrible start has been driven by him. He was everywhere again, and with the game in the balance, he took several key marks to keep the ball in the Dees forward half.” - The Monday Knee Jerk Reaction: Round Ten Of course, it wasn’t the efforts of one man that caused this monumental upset, but rather the work of the coach and his assistants and the other 22 players who took the ground, notably the likes of Jake Melksham, Christian Petracca, Clayton Oliver and Kozzie Pickett but Max has been magnificent in taking ownership of his team and its welfare under the fire of a calamitous 0-5 start to the season. On Sunday, he provided the leadership that was needed to face up to the reigning premier and top of the ladder Brisbane Lions on their home turf and to prevail after a slow start, during which the hosts led by as much as 24 points in the second quarter. Titus O’Reily is normally comedic in his descriptions of the football but this time, he was being deadly serious. The Demons have come from a long way back and, although they still sit in the bottom third of the AFL pack, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel as they look to drive home the momentum inspired in the past four or five weeks by Max the Magnificent who was under such great pressure in those dark, early days of the season.

  • CASEY: Southport

The Southport Sharks came to Casey. They saw and they conquered a team with 16 AFL-listed players who, for the most part, wasted their time on the ground and failed to earn their keep. For the first half, the Sharks were kept in the game by the Demons’ poor use of the football, it’s disposal getting worse the closer the team got to its own goal and moreover, it got worse as the game progressed. Make no mistake, Casey was far and away the better team in the first half, it was winning the ruck duels through Tom Campbell’s solid performance but it was the scoreboard that told the story.
