They also need talls to replace Boyd. They can get the best two if they deal. One is a Boyd type and the other a strong KPF.

Both talls will be gone by pick 6/7 if they give up 4 to St Kilda to secure Petracca.

All depends on how badly GWS want him, and how badly they want a replacement for Boyd as well.

I think we're reading this wrong. Clearly Roos & co think we've got such a strong list that we couldn't possibly improve it, not matter what we try.

Hence it might seem that we're missing out on Giles, Greenwood, Hallihan and a dozen other decent players, but actually McKenzie, Evans, Riley and twenty others are going to magically turn into superstars overnight and we'll miss out on this improvement if we bring other players in.

The difference between McCartin and Wright isn't worth trading a very good player for 'steak knives'

Doesnt really matter who GWS grab in the draft....

They'll be back on the shelf in a couple of years......all grown up :)

Exactly how can you be proven right or wrong on this ?

Really frustrating....

The fact that decent midfielders are moving all over the place when we've brought in none, would indicate our shopping list was very narrow.

If Roos is happy to bring in 3x 18 year old midfielders as his Plan B, I have full trust in him... but I'd be surprised if that's his preferred option to trading in mids with 3+ years development under their belt. Hallahan would've been a great get for pick 23.

GWS will end up with 3 or 4 top 10 draft picks for the next 5 years. It'll be an endless stream of players leaving that joint.

he can take a grab, but that's about it.

He is learning to play & improving since he's been on halfback where he is more use to the Team.

But if he can get us a pick 6 to grab a player we have a chance that will be a real driver of our culture change, then watt are we waiting for. grab this player.

We could take Brayshaw & Lever at this stage & we could get Pickett as well improving our pace to boot with both Garlett Pickett & jkh our quick small stocks will be pretty healthy.

having those drivers plus that added speed around our players will be awesome.

I am realistic about where we sit but if I couldn't find some way to get enjoyment out of supporting my team I would just stop supporting - as simple as that.

I got some enjoyment last year out of seeing obvious improvement, watching for the first time in years three good recruits come in and make an impact (Cross Tyson Vince). The club has some stability about it.

We have now put the missing piece in place in the coaching box and I am eager to see how Hogan goes. Do I think we will knocking on the door for the 8 ? nope. Will I get frustrated during the year - absolutely . Will I be satisfied - unless we race up the ladder - nope.

Will I moan and gripe about our club and be woe is us - I'll walk away from the game first.

Am hearing you! Will always love my Dees, doesn't mean the frustration isn't there - much the same as my golf really!

Anyone who posts here and isn't a member of MFC is, well I.won't say an idiot, but they've made some interesting life decisions. There are always mitigating circumstances (where you live, finances etc) so I get that but taking things at face value I couldn't imagine someone so obsessed that they post/read here yet can't fork out a couple of hundred a year for membership.

I've been a member since 1989 (as a 7 year old) and was a "squadron" member or whatever it was called before that. My son was signed up a couple of weeks after being born and I'll never let his lapse (he actually has 2, 1 MFC and 1 AFL member).

Seriously if you can afford to sign up and choose not to you can't call yourself a supporter, you're just a barracker.

You would like to think that but can guarantee that is not the case!

And even if Western Sydney was a great place to live, managing the salary cap for all this talent would be impossible.

They have 3 uphill battles- the [censored] hole that is Western Sydney, managing the salary cap, and being based in an area where the demographic doesn't give a crap about Aussie Rules.

FAIL FAIL FAIL! :)

Pick 23 for Merrett + Brisbane's third rounder.

Brisbane's third rounder on-traded for Frost.

Take best available midfielder in the PSD with pick 2, rather than having to burn it on Frost (see what I did there?)

Get anyone who is better than Evans/McKenzie as a DFA. Burbury has my vote, would cost peanuts and kicks goals.

Delist Strauss/Tappy/Blease obviously.

take kids 2, 3, 6,,,, brayshaw lever pickett

merrett + later pick - 23 OK

later pick - frost

PSD Sewell ROK thinking this all along... talk to them Mr Roosy bring them back from their hyber nation, gone too soon

But pick 3 and 23 are not steak knives if they get you the players you want.

Even so, that's operating under the assumption they even want both talls. Yes Patton is out for the year but they still have pretty handy KPF's in Cameron and Tomlinson

cant believe we are going to hold pick 23, there must be a dozen ready made players we could trade it for

come on Josh

The only logical explanation is that Mahoney is still going hard for an A grade mid and needs 23 as the clincher.

Most likely for a GWS player and needs a resolution on whether the Saints trade pick 1 to them or not.

Or he just has simply has nothing. Plain and simple.

The bloke tries to turn this site into a bloody circus only to look like an absolute fool at the end.

Don't understand why people take him serious.

circuses are entertaining, dd36, thats why we are all here, not to practice the art of physics. get off your high horse.

its fun people want, & success.

not your straight as a die carp, like a german scientist trying to a comedian. give it up

Also must be kept in mind we are very short on young talent- our previous draft failures have us with only a small handful of players who may actually carve out a successful AFL career.

If the worst thing that comes out of our failure to attract experienced mids this year is that we stock up on talented youngsters, then maybe that will provide us the springboard we need to actually develop our own group of dynamic players that will push us into the 8 and beyond.

It's not like the chance to bring in a gun through trades or FA is dead, it's just taken a back-seat right now to refining the "cake" element of the list

Just reading between the lines but Mahoney publicly saying we're keeping all our picks looked a bit like they were putting pressure on another club who might have been umming and aahhing about a deal with us. Basically "these picks are there, take them or leave them and we'll gladly go to the draft."

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak
