Potential Trades [Warning: Reading this thread may self-destruct]

At the moment we have delisted 2(Nicho and Clisby) and lost Frawley.

We have picked up 2 (Stretch and Garlett).

Clark and Lamumba will cancel itsrlf out so essentially we only have room for 1 more on our list which at this rate will go to Jetta.

We will delist another 2-3 before the draft I would say

I would say so to, & still maybe trade some for spoons.

Byrnes retired as well.

Currently there are 2 spots available before upgrading Jetta.

Frawley is out but Garlett takes his place.

Clark wants out but Lumumba should take his place.

Blease wants out as well which would secure an additional spot on the Primary List.

Tappy, Blease and Strauss will all be delisted by next week if no clubs show interest.

We're potentially picking up Gwilt and/or Jones as DFA. How does that factor into the equation?

Very frustrated and disappointed so far at the total lack of player trades.

If we let 3 go and pick up 2 that leaves us with an additional pick to carry into the ND or PSD. Assuming we upgrade Jetta then we would have 3 ND (2, 3, 23) at that point or 2 ND (2, 3) and 1 PSD (2) if we decided that was the best option.

The Beams trade is taking forever which is holding everyone up. But the AFL in their eternal wisdom (thanks Vlad) decided two years ago to extend the trade period to two weeks instead of 4 days.

And we have to take two players minimum in the draft, other than Stretch. Or would Jetta count as one of these?

Meaning we could go to the draft with only pick 2 and get Brayshaw?

Jetta would count for one of those

So yes, potentially we could but after campaigning so hard to get 3 as compo you would think that would be unlikely.

I reckon the opposite. Roos clearly wants Brayshaw but also wants to repeat the Tyson deal from last year. We are in the perfect position to do both thanks to the compo, so effectively we can have our cake and eat it too. Last year it took our first and second rounder, both of which we've thus far held on to.

I reckon both will be given up for established players by the end of next week and we'll happily take Brayshaw, Stretch and Jetta as our 3 picks. Maybe a pick 30-40 player like JKH that Taylor recommends, if another club throws in any late picks as sweeteners.

I am another who believes that Roos will bring Brayshaw on board. In fact, trades aside, l suspect that Brayshaw is the only player in the draft, that Roos is a lock-in for drafting.

Not sure how you can say that....

Paige said he's been unofficially pulling him aside throughout the year at Sandy matches and mentoring him. It's obvious he's seen plenty that he likes, and Tyler would be giving him plenty of feedback.

And Salem, whom Brayshaw has said he wants to model his game on.

A perfect Paul Roos draftee.

We'd be silly not to bring in at least a couple more picks in the draft besides the 2 under 18 year olds. Given our draft hand I'd say clear room for 4 at least. Upping the overall state of the list is vital but any sustained top 4 or flag tilt will need a core of players in the same age group and our best age group is still built around Hogan, Tyson, Viney and co. So if we trade out 3 and 23 for experience we should try and get a couple of 20's or 30's back with them minimum. Draft picks are still the best way to find cheap quality talent. Not much point even having a recruiting department if you don't give them a shot.

Given Roos brought in 5 midfielders last year before we even got to the draft (Salem making it 6), and we haven't brought in a single one this year yet (other than Stretch), I'd say there's obviously a bigger plan going on behind the scenes.

We have to give our money to someone! We just cleared a $700k player off our list and we were already paying the minimum cap. There must be a big play at work here.

What are people's thoughts on who Saints are going to take with 1? Is Petracca too good to pass on or will they get the forward they need, can they get a forward through other trades or is mccartin worth 1 to them?

This boner for Petracca intrigues me because he doesn't seem particularly hard. I watched him doing some agility tests and he looked a little bit clumsy trying to maneuver his frame around.

Certainly. Something is brewing and it sounds like it could be announced tomorrow. Let's hope we don't have to wait until next week. I fear we will though.

Not trying to be clever but where is it sounding like something might be announced tomorrow?

I was referencing the Dangerfield thread where someone mentioned it was D day one way or the other tomorrow. There were a couple of rumours earlier in the week that hinted that something was going down on Friday. So I'm pining my hopes of innuendo and rumour from Demonland. Not a great indication really. :P

Well if nothing happens tomorrow I'm definitely concerned about what the hell we've been doing over the last 3 months. Roos was indicating a massive sweep out of this list and thus far it's been anything but.

Our 3 likely trades in week one:

1. Lamumba - only happened because Buckley fell out with him and someone at Collingwood suggested we meet his management

2. Garlett - had a falling out with Carlton after off-field incidents, and they shopped him around for peanuts. We showed interest.

3. Sam Frost, to replace Frawley. Net gain of zero for our depth.

S two of these three weren't even planned for and simply fell into our laps. I'd love to know if there's a greater recruitment strategy here, because if we just put all our hopes on Danger and that's gone nowhere, well... the whole thing is Neeld-esque in levels of stupidity.

Of course, if we land Danger or Shiel I will happily rescind this rant.

Outs from 2014 list

Clark, Frawley, Byrnes, Clisby & Nicho

Ins:

Stretch, Garlett, Pick 2, Pick 3 & Pick 23 it will be used for a player through the draft or trade

Into the equation:

5 out and as per above 5 in,

Lumumba being talked as a done deal so there is another 1, not to mention Frost, so I would assume at least 2 more delistings

Also to be considered if Pick 2 or 3 is traded it could possibly be for another two on the list either straight swap for players or a player and another pick

Anywhere around 8-10 changes on our list is possible

I think next week unless traded Strauss, Blease and Tappy will be delisted and not sure on other players contract situations but Mckenzie, Evans and Matt Jones could find themselves under the microscope

    REDEEMING by Meggs

It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.

    REDEEM by Meggs

How will Mick Stinear and his dwindling list of fit and available Demons respond to last week’s 65-point capitulation to the Bombers, the team’s biggest loss in history?   As a minimum he will expect genuine effort from all of his players when Melbourne takes on the GWS Giants at Ikon Park this Thursday.  Happily, the ground remains a favourite Melbourne venue of players and spectators alike and will provide an opportunity for the Demons to redeem themselves. Injuries to star play

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out
