Melbourne asks for draft assistance

youre attempting to package LOGIC FAIRNESS and AFL all in one argument

The AFL will work always to its own agenda. Isnt that right Vlad ??

yep LOGIC, FAIRNESS and AFL - pick any 2

DC I think you are overstating this.

In fact AFL and the other two are mutually exclusive.

Here we are, one of only two clubs in 20 years who missed out on a priority pick by winning one game too many and we missed it because we were blatantly tanked against by a club which has received more priority picks than any other.

Our total PP collection in the 'rebuild era' has been a single pick 1 and pick 17.

Collingwood got a top priority pick for a single bad year, with grand final appearances within three years on both sides of that selection.

Hawthorn built their premiership list on tanking and hitting the jackpot with their selection.

West Coast systematically and blatantly tanked for three years, screwing it up in the middle but earning two end-of-first-round selections along the way, and like Collingwood made top-4 appearances within a few years either side.

Carlton... well, they have three start-of-first-round priority picks on their list today, and let's face it, they would be in more trouble than even we are without Murphy and Gibbs.

Meanwhile, here we are, rebuilding a gutted list as a result of the disasterous recruiting and list management of Prendergast and Schwab and a string of tragic or maddening events beyond our reasonable control.

They say we don't 'deserve' it, they say we need to 'build culture' first. Well, everything that can be credibly done about that is being done. We are showing that we are an organised football club again and headed in the right direction.

But, we can't just magically conjure up the cattle to be realistically competitive. Our list is deeply deficient, with 'adequate for VFL' players getting games.

No matter how well we manage everything we can control, we need assistance in order to bridge that gap.

Incorrect, they can do what they want.

If Eddie lets them.

That's why it's called an independent com....ooohhh, well that's what it's supposed to be anyway.

Hogan to come in ? How did that reasoning work out last year ?

I'm not saying I agree with it I'm just saying that's what I think will happen.

not all, when they do something fair it is usually illogical. when the do something logical it is normally unfair

it is the balance they invariably get wrong

Selective editing DC.

Wonderful prefix manipulation.

However your point is well made.

Never let it be said that pedantry does not exist on demonland.

And to the thumb typers- no it does not involve children.

So, whilst we were made aware that this meeting was occurring today? Are we expecting an outcome or comment on this today?

Given the clubs are meeting today as well, and it's only a few more hours to the Brownlow, I wonder whether things will not be disclosed until after tonight. That is unless we are getting nothing in which case it's just a simple statement to the media stating that no assistance has been granted.

werent the Commission meeting today ??

Outcome will be a negative result.

Has been telegraphed for a while unfortunately.

Call me a hopeless optimist, but I actually am starting to think otherwise....

If it was going to be a no, I think we would have heard immediately, and the world would move on! The longer we hear nothing, the more likely that there is something to be announced that needs to be timed appropriately.

Or... It was such a long shot they've complete forgotten about it... "The club president's are angry with Little... And get stuffed melbourne."

... two different meetings aren't they?

Club presidents are meeting, AFL Commission are the ones talking about our assistance.

I think the only way the AFL will give out a PP is if something completely out of control of the club happens which impacts on multiple players at once.

Sounds like an Essendrug kind of problem. They will get draft assistance if their team is decimated yet their demise was in their control!

Umm so was our ours sd

Umm so was our ours sd

Not totally.

Jurrah, Wonna, Clark, Frawley, Sylvia, Rivers, Moloney, the bloke at GWS, all because of personal issues or new AFL rules.

Hogan and Trengove injuries etc.

I think the only way the AFL will give out a PP is if something completely out of control of the club happens which impacts on multiple players at once.

Like one top forward taking up booze, quitting the club and going to jail, another top forward suffering a succession of random injuries, quitting the club then declaring that he wants to play elsewhere, a potential top forward missing the entire season with a random and unforeseeable back injury, our top of the line FB deciding he wants to play at a more successful club, two top 20 draft picks suffering badly broken legs and never pushing on and two top 5 draft picks suffering season-ending injuries and having no impact yet? And that on top of the little things from previous years such as multiple senior players from the leadership group packing their bags and walking out o the club, our No. 1 pick being poached under the poorly written start-up club rules (against the wishes of the AFL, incidentally), a revered club figure dying and being fined $500,000 for not being found guilty of tanking.

I think we've had plenty of things impact multiple players which were entirely out of the clubs control. It's just a matter of overcoming the ridiculous bias that Eddie and Co. have managed to stir up and convince them to look at the facts instead of the spin.

so when do we hear from the commish?

1/2 hr before brownlow telecast should obscure it nicely

If my memory serves me correctly we are the only club to win 5 games and deny ourselves a PP and we did it TWICE - once against Carlton and once against Freo. Anyone confirm that?

Do you not think MC blind-sighted us?

Will be a pick at the start of round 2 is my thinking

Will be a pick at the start of round 2 is my thinking

I think thats what the club is summising also. Could/has to be be instantly traded( traded for someone) , maybe to the Filth for Harry I reckon. I sense thats how it might pan out

Will be a pick at the start of round 2 is my thinking

That's using the "vibe" defence clause the AFL have up their sleeves.

If he's getting what is reported it has to be pick 3 according to the rules they came up with, right?

Edit- there is a formula in place that deals with compo based on things we will qualify for. How could the AFL change that at their own discretion?

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.
