"Why aren't we investigating this" - Sam Newman.

Was this said on the Footy show tonight?

Can you elaborate a bit? He wasnt saying that regarding our team was he?

Garry just said GWS had no reason to win and had sent Cameron Whitfield Coniglio Mohr Scully ect all to surgery and then sam said they were tanking and should be investigated.

Sending players off to surgery now so they can start the pre season as early as possible once you can't make finals is not tanking. It's good list management and very different to what we did.

What did we do exactly?

JKH seems cooked imo. Not uncommon for first-year players to hit a wall. He played quite a bit early in the year. Probably needs to grow the tank a bit. Playing someone that is not fully fit is a pathway to injuries.

That's tanking if you think the Melbourne of 2008-2009 tanked.

It isn't just player people in 'foreign' positions like the audacious decision to play Frawley and Warnock forward (fast forward a few years and they both played a game against each other in their respective forward lines).

It's recruiting nothing but kids, its sending pros to early retirements, its early season ending surgeries, its resting of players - it is setting your team up to lose.

So if you don't think that GWS should be penalised for setting their team up to lose since its inception - then you don't think we tanked.

Personally, I have a narrower view of tanking to make it actually worthwhile having a rule against it.

Trying to prove tanking is like catching smoke with your bare hands.

The US draft method works for me. Last place no guaranttee of first pick. But the bottom sides have a greater chance to get first pick.

ie Last place gets 18 lottery ticket to first pick in the draft, 17th get 17 tickets through to 1 st place 1 ticket, so the top team could get the first pick, their odds would be 170:1

It is far more likely that the bottom teams get the first pick, but no guarantee.

No point to tanking.

Hey guys I know it's a irrelevant topic....but I've been noticing a trend where Damien Barret continuously has nothing but [censored] things to say about us. Have you guys noticed this as well?

no.

Really? Can't remember the last time he hasn't had something negative to say about us

Top right corner. Search bar. Chuck Barrett's name in and have a look around and see if anything comes up on demonland.

That's not how it works.

And the NBA has a lottery (the NHL has similar) and last has a 25% chance, and then it diminishes from there - those that play 'finals' have no chance to get the first pick. And only the first 3 picks are done via lottery - the rest is done normally via where teams finish.

And some of the most obvious instances of tanking in world sport have happened in the NBA since the adoption of the lottery. Below are some recent articles about tanking in the NBA and how to fix it. So moving to their solution might not be their solution in a few years...

Funny how GWS has decided to play 2 first gamers. They have had all year but chose this game to do it.

Nice to see Salem back and hope he doesn't win the vest, also would like to see Toumpas perform well enough at Casey to earn a recall.

Youngsters like these are our future.

Happy to see Salem back in, you'd have to think he'll be the sub and Riley will be given a full game.

Just my two bob on draft ideas, I would make pick 1 a 50/50 coin toss between the two clubs. That way there is absolutely no advantage with finishing last and hopefully would lead to a situation where clubs actually care whether they get the wooden spoon or not.

Generally bottom two teams are as bad as each other, so you won't be disadvantaging a certain team.

The lottery would only be for the bottom 10 sides. The top 8 get picks would then get picks 11 through 18, with 8th getting 11, 1st getting 18. In the NBA only non-playoff teams are entered into the lottery.

What a wonderful sight it is to look at a Melbourne side and not see Bail and McKenzie in it.

Both are NQRs. McKenzie because he can't kick and Bail because he doesn't finish off his work he runs but never to advantage whilst players like him get games we will never improve.

No it's not.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
