Provided he isn't delivered to us as another NQR (inherent but well disguised career debilitating/ending injury ) this is exactly the player we need down back to assist and educate the like of TMc, Garland,Jetta and Watts (assuming he eventually ends up playing most of his footy there...if he makes it). Allows us to move Howe up forward and would also deliver the ball with more accuracy to Hogan/Howe/JKH/Other?

Most importantly he can break lines, switch more quickly/accurately by foot and occasionaly drifts forward for the odd mark and goal. Allows us to move Howe up forward and would also deliver the ball with more accuracy to Hogan/Howe etc.

I would take him in a heart beat and trade Grimes/Terlich/Frawley out for him and one other classy/pacey half back who can hit a target and break lines. Although we might have one of our own in the making atm in Jetta (and possibly Kent down the track) so the 2nd might not be totally crucial but i'd still like to see it. Especially if we keep losing more of the center clearance work than we win in the next season or 2 as most of our forward 50 entries will need to come off rebounds from HB if we are to win more than a handfull of matches.

Like most I am fed up with Grimes. I just can't wait for Grimes, Bail and McKenzie to be weeded out like Terlich and Jones have been.

Terrible miss by Kent on his preferred left on the edge of the goalsquare.

Howe's kick in to a flat footed Garland with 3 port players within 20m was just terrible, as was Dawes' inside 50 which could have been raffled by the 2 port players when it had to hug the boundary.

I thought Dawes marked well today when he only had one opponent. Looked a lot better with his hands than he has in the last few weeks.

I am agreeing with you again Gnash! Dawes is our only true forward. As such he is targeted and draws 2 or even three defenders. He is swamped. Another key forward would free him up. The amazing thing though, is that our current other "forwards" seem unable to benefit from this situation.

Another factor is how we bring the ball in of course. (or if we bring it in!)

I was happy with tapscotts attack on the ball, particularly the first quarter, kicked his long goal and cleaned up someone.

I like that blease was able to put on the afterburners and its great that he can kick those running goals from fifty out, but he had options.

He had a player free to his left that would have had a to less pressure to take the shot and could have gotten in closer, and he had a one on one down close to the goal square. So I'm not convinced his goal was the best option, he's just lucky it came off.

Dawes is a hard working forward who is good one on one. He isn't the pea, but he's a lion hearted player who will push up to the ball time after time to provide a target when there isn't anything else on.

As a result, most of Dawes' good work goes unnoticed, because making a contest doesn't get a stat or glory.

Once you put Hogan in there, Dawes will start to get more one on one opportunities.

We have blamed the umpires every week.

They are not the reason we are third last.

The umpires have been abominable in general all year but you're right they didn't cost us the game. Our ridiculous decision-making / lack of composure lost us the game - but to come away with a 3 point win and a 3 point loss from 2 games in SA when we've averaged 60-80 point losses there for the past decade shows significant improvement.

Loved how Tappy flattened a port player in the first quarter (I think) and he was pretty decent for the game.

Also loved when Robbie Gray (an ahole and I can't stand the wenker) was tackled and he "face planted" into the turf. Pity it didn't knock the numb nut out but it provided some enjoyment.

Tough call on Bail I reckon. He was great today.

Before watching today's game with the kids I noted the "line" was 48.5 pts, and thought we were a good chance to get inside that, but not a lot more. Perhaps Port had been down recently, but I'm also pretty sure our form of recent times was awful. I'm far more encouraged by a 3 pt loss on the road than a goal loss in Melbourne to the bulldogs.

We all know we still have some holes in the team, some outside speed, a great kick or two down back and another Tyson. Given how badly we've tailed off in recent years late in the season I'm now wanting to see five strong performances coming home. Win as many as possible Dees, I'd really like three more.

There was a lot to like, and as always some shocking skill errors, but we are kidding ourselves if we didn't think 50+ when five goals down early. The boys are starting to get some ticker, can't wait to see it combined with skill, and then confidence. Seeing Blease running with two bounces towards the goal did remind me so much of the great Bluey Adams. He should be persevered with for the rest of the season. We need more speed and Sam certainly has it. Considering he broke his leg it's a wonder he didn't lose some of his natural speed.

Toda was a great effort overall against a top four team. Way better than last week's effort. Perhaps the guys were affected by the week before in the heat of Darwin. There were many skill errors and some silly decisions that in the end cost the game. But there's definite progress. Except for Grimes and Frawley.

Just heartbreaking yet again - so many in the last 50 years.

Better to be that close than pumped by heaps and some little positive signs e.g. Jetta better than I thought.

Don't like the knocking of Grimes - still a good player - I know his disposal is not great at times.Don't like bagging umps - if a team is good enough it wins BUT the Bail decision against the Doggies and today's crazy one against Watts (great spoil) right on 3/4 time very hard to cop.
