Watts' kicking skill allows him to be a [censored] now and again

Dean Kent had an urgent requirement at training today and raced off to the nearest tree, unfortunately because the group was training in the middle of the ground, this left him only about 30 metres from the fence and all the other players getting a drink, Watts picked up a ball, took one step, kicked it under the fence, and it bounced perfectly towards Kent who was furiously concentrating on the job on hand, as there was a female approaching (much to everybody elses' amusement), Kent was kneeling on one knee against the tree, the ball took it's final bounce just before him and cleared his head by about an inch....to cheers....

Satyr - sometimes you provide too much information!

Nev Jetta's approach to kicking after I complimented him on his 93% disposal efficiency, "don't let ambition overtake your ability"

It's a very fine balancing act to be aware of your limitations (ie try kicks you are not capable of), and not overcompensate (ie not try kicks you are capable of). The stats seem to back up what we've seen in that Nev seems to have struck that balance. It's not just the high DE% either: 0 clangers on the weekend. He's been using the ball very well.

It's a bit too early to make a call on Salem, but like most I think he will be in the best before long.

Out of the established players (in no particular order) - Watts, Dunn, Jones, Dawes, Garland, Vince

Definitely not Howe for me either.

Not sure why Tyson and Viney are appearing in some lists. Not one of their strengths, at this point.

Sorry, I'm playing - I'm still in a good mood ;)

You also forgot Earl Spalding. Dead set champ in front of goals for us! haha.

Loved him at MFC though...Until he went to Carlscum.

Watts 23, Salem 21, Dunn 17,Vince 17, N.Jones 12, Kent 8, Tyson 7, Jetta 5, Howe 5, Toumpas 3, Dawes 3, Strauss 2, Trengove, Viney, Grimes 1.

I'm amazed no one has given Garland a vote. He seems to have the occasional brain fade, particualrly, when coming back from a few weeks off but he has a fluent action, is a booming kick and rarely misses a target when on song.

I'm surprised to see Howe so highly rated. Surely last year he would have been the host smothered kick in the AFL, and his hospital kicks were a nightmare. Turned it around a bit this year but still I'd think there would be people slightly higher.

  1. Watts
  2. Salem
  3. Dunn
  4. Jetta

Watt's kicking is streets ahead because you need to combine his execution with his decision making . He takes some delightful options.

It is early days but I have seen Salem do a couple of things that could place in the Watts category. The kick to a running Bail in the Port Adelaide game that resulted in a goal was poetry - both the kick and the audacity to try the kick.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
