What the? Are you drunk already?not yet

I wonder if there's anyone you owe money to about a female prime minister?no,and dont owe for a female senior afl coach either.

Can I just clarify what you're saying.

"Peta Searle is great but it doesn't matter because she's a woman"no,she is window dressing for afl

"It's not me that says that, it is [insert 'silent majority myth equivalent' here], so you can't say I'm sexist, even though actually it is just me saying it"no

go to any local club and ask the players,do you respect a females opinion on the tactics of the game?

Ah yes, anybody saying anything good about a woman is just doing it for political correctness. yep, just to upset you YES

window dressing.to be salivated at afl headquarters and advertised on all their promotion banners.

PLAYERS want give 2 bobs worth of nanny goat chit.

This "It's not me, it's the players" is an interesting variation on the "It's not me, it's the bible" and "It's not me, it's the shareholders" and "It's not me, it's the hedge funds system" diversion of responsibility.

Forms the traditional triumvirate with "Some of my best friends are..." and "I'm not ----ist but...".

Anyway, the point is, Jazza, if you have some kind of a problem with women in positions of authority, just say so. None of this gutless slandering of the players by painting them with your opinions.

That's not actually an answer. To anything.

Love to hear Ayres response to Jazza's views. According to the Age article a few weeks back he is a massive fan and has been very vocal about how good a coach she was at Port Melbourne.

By the by Jazza Port offered another contract but she knocked it back. Also i can't imagine many more blokey, rough clubs than Port and she thrived there and by all accounts had the full support of players, head coach and obviously the committee.. To paraphrase Frank Sinatra - if she can make it there she can make it anywhere.

Port has always had a big traditional role for women

There were a couple who would line up on the race and spit on opposition players as they came on and off the ground at the breaks

Trailblazer. I love it. Very interesting that the club known for rape and mistreatment of women is the first one to appoint a woman onto their coaching staff.

BTW, did anyone see Robinson dig a hole for himself on AFL360 last night? He managed to kinda get out of it, but not really. Such a bogan [censored]. The most inarticulate journalist in the game.

EDIT. Why is f l o g censored? :P

Please, please, producers of The Footy Show, please do not let Sam Newman make fun of this appointment or, even worse, make a misogynistic comment about it. It wouldn't be funny and any short term boost The Footy Show might get from being faux controversial does not justify any such approach.

Not sure if you saw it but Caro made a hash of it talking about it on Footy Classified.

Mumbled something incoherent about 'positive discrimination'.

I think she meant to say that the appointment was made on merit but it came out the opposite, that she'd been appointed because of her gender.

Yes, I did see that and Craig Hutchison queried what she meant. I suspect Hutchy actually knows what positive discrimination is...he just couldn't believe Caro had actually said it.

I have a different take, Wilson is just jealous that there is yet another woman with a more meaningful role in football than herself, bitterness on display.

Reading jazzas comments is actually laughable.

I've never felt I've known a misogynist but I'm on par now!

Newsflash chump, she was an assistant coach at Port and she'll be assistant coach at Saints. I know a bloke at Port Melbourne, a very good footballer who said she was brilliant.

It doesn't surprise me you know noone who would respect a female coach... Sadly I think that says more about you though.

Thanks chump.

So youve asked your mate at port what the players would think about a FEMALE appointed full time senior coach at AFL level.?

Get back to me when your mate gives you feedback about it.chump.{cool word}

Its funny how you and other poster ASSUME i dont know females and females in footy.

Supported jack stevens mum to be club and league president{great person and did a top job].

Was also the first to support a local female footy league.

Also supported all local clubs have the word "netball" incorperated in their name to.

Dont think you know me from my first comment on this situation, the AFL will media push this decision all the way and not give a cent to local male and female footy.

Just a restate for the non readers of english,SENIOR afl footballers will not give 2 bobs worth of nanny goat chit about this appointment, yes they will pay lip service in the media by saying yeah shes taught so much etc etc.but she will be passing on information on behalf of the senior coach.

AFL footballers struggle to listen to a coach that hasnt played seniors before, footy is littered with players who didnt want to give these non AFL blokes a go.

Unfortunately whether people like it or not, there will be an element of no trust or respect.

Im not anti female, but players will be,its dressing unfortunately.until a woman coaches a VFL side and moves through the ranks that way,its just nothing but advertising mush.

Go to your local footy club and ask the players if they would listen to a woman.

Feminists need not attack me,but retort in common sense.

This is always a good start. 'I'm not racist, but...', 'I'm not homophobic, but...'

Ever been coached by Peta? If not, you couldn't possibly know and then what you're doing is simply making a gendered, sexist argument.

Yep,your right.

So on a side note aaaahhh dont bother.

Jazza give it a rest.

If Peta is a good coach she will survive within the AFL.

If not she will be replaced.

Just like the blokes.

The END.

I never said WOMAN were useless.

Other poster have made pinkolezzo hairy legged university opinions based on no experience{maybe}and NO understanding about what was said.

But do i wish her luck, not really,i couldnt a fat rats about other clubs.

But it is nice to upset the average person on this board sometimes.

My bet still stands too.but no takers among the outlandish knockers of my post.

You know, posts like this (and the "I'm gay, so what?" article post on Bigfooty) give me hope about our social future.

Firstly, however, let me acknowledge Peta Searle on an incredible achievement, lifting the glass ceiling steadily higher. It's something to be truly admired.

What I also admire, however, is the way in which our society now leaps out to defend these sorts of people, and not in a reactionary "shoosh we have to be politically correct" kind of way... but actually pointing out the logical fallacies utilised by those making these mistakes, and helping to educate them (from their almost universal position of white, anglo-saxon, christian-derived, heterosexual male) about the difficulties of living in a minority. Congratulations to all of you. If a bunch of mongrel footy fans can be this compassionate, then the human race has a bright future.

Jazza, your argument seems to be "I'm not sexist, but the football industry is". None of us are arguing that the football industry ISN'T sexist right now - it plainly is! I get the sense that if you personally truly weren't sexist, however, you'd be celebrating Peta's achievement of bringing the industry a step closer to equality. Clearly, you're not. Perhaps you should ask yourself why.

Whether it takes more or less than 20 years, I believe that there will be a female senior coach in the AFL in the not-too-distant future.

As for this whole "hasn't played at the top level" argument... who would you prefer to be your race engineer? Sebastian Vettel, or Christian Horner? Being a good "doer" and being a good "teacher" are entirely different skills, and the former does not automatically beget the latter.

All of us i would imagine prefer christian horner.

You and others might have overestimated league footballers though.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
