Matt Demon 1,597 Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 If you choose to bump and injury results you usually find yourself in strife. Thoughts?
Forest Demon 4,681 Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 No chance of anyone even being cited over that
pantaloons 2,019 Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 I didn't see the game but have seen the highlights of the incident on the AFL app. I watched it the first time and it didn't even register to me that he might be in trouble. It'd be a complete disgrace if he was cited. This competition and sections of the media and fans are irrationally obsessed with suspending people. I just find it weird.
Wolfmother 182 Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 Nobody had possession of the football so the bump was the only opinion It's very sad that football us defined by lawyers and split decision actions rather than just common sense
Matt Demon 1,597 Posted May 3, 2014 Author Posted May 3, 2014 Ease up. Nothing much in it Just asking the question, it wouldn't suprise me if they have a look at it.
Bitter but optimistic 22,289 Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 If Viney gets suspended/sanctioned for that I will give up football, demonland, drugs, sex and alcohol. No [censored]!
DeeSpencer 26,692 Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 I think Lynch should be suspended for injuring himself and Georgiou with a head clash. Was Viney's bump shoulder to shoulder? Did Viney's head clash in to Lynch? If the answer to both those questions is no then it doesn't matter that Lynch's head hit Georgiou's. That's footy. We need the super slow mo camera to work out if Viney made the contact to Lynch or if it was the ensuing head clash that caused the damage. Viney shouldn't be held accountable if his bump was clean.
Deecisive 1,709 Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 he turned to take possession of the ball, did not look as if bumping was his goal. play on...
DeeSpencer 26,692 Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 he turned to take possession of the ball, did not look as if bumping was his goal. play on... Pull your head out of the sand. Caught any bump issues at the tribunal this year? The incident is going to have severe scrutiny. Hopefully they find it was shoulder to shoulder and legal. But I have little confidence. The MRP see injuries and look for suspensions.
RalphiusMaximus 6,112 Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 I would say a lot depends on whether they view his action as a deliberate bump or bracing for the impact while going for the ball. As Stated above, they take the line that if a player chooses to bump and an injury results they will be suspended, so if they look at it from that side he may be in strife. If you watch the footage, he turns and braces a few steps before impact, so in slow motion it looks pretty premeditated and he certainly hist Lynch high with his shoulder. At full speed it looks a lot better for him because you can see the speed at which they are moving and how little time he had to register that the collision was coming and react. I would say that if he played for a top side there would be nothing to worry about, but the tribunal has a history of coming down hard on players from the "weaker" clubs, also known as easy targets. Think back to Jack Zeibel getting three weeks for a totally legal attempt at the ball and Trengove's perfect tackle on Dangerfield which also copped three weeks. Based on that record I have a sad suspicion that they will look at this as an opportunity to show that they are coming down hard on dangerous play and will try to throw the book at him.
The Song Formerly Known As 6,479 Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 WHICH ONE?!The kid was a beast all game.
Robot Devil 1,895 Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 AFL website reporting Lynch out for 6 weeks with a broken jaw. You can almost see the stitch up coming. Viney to get three weeks.
Young Dee 1,303 Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 MFC player - 3 weeks The day an MFC player gets 3 weeks for that is the day I stop watching footy. Bumps like that are what make footy great.
daisycutter 30,021 Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 i reckon the crow guy bumped viney. he should be cited for bumping and hitting georgiou in the head was shoulder to shoulder anyway
DeeSpencer 26,692 Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 The day an MFC player gets 3 weeks for that is the day I stop watching footy. Bumps like that are what make footy great. We've been somewhat lucky to not have too many victims of these silly new rules. Yet at the same time i'm still angry about Trengove's sling tackle suspension. Oh and how about that tough guy Josh Jenkins body slamming Georgiou after Georgi stopped him in his tracks with a tackle. Any melbourne player does that and they get 3 weeks - see Mitch Clisby last year.
Pates 9,697 Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 Nothing in it, should be fine. So he'll get 3 weeks.
Bombay Airconditioning 6,510 Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 Nothing in it, should be fine. So he'll get 3 weeks. He probably bloody will. Fair bump by Viney, Georgio was laying the tackle but because someone got seriously injured I think he will be cited. Very defendable though. Sometimes injury's happen.
Demon Dynasty 17,169 Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 His shoulder or head didnt connect with opponents head at any point. It was the the ricochet from a fair bump back into Georgeys head. Nothing in it... move on.
Moonshadow 17,678 Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 Geez Viney is like a terrier. He went hard and won the ball. Goes hard every time. It's a contact sport FGS.
