I will see your Damien Barrett's assessment of Scully on Ablett; and raise you Brad Scott's assessment on Scully's job on Ablett.

Where can we see that TGR?

Where can we see that TGR?

Interview OTC last Monday. 10 seconds worth if that.

Actually praised Scully's job on Ablett despite the 31 possessions

Scully gets knocked off the ball way too easily and his footskills are still average at best.

Doesn't lack courage or running ability and his disposal by hand is very good. I think his footspeed is ok - he is certainly not slow.

Natanui is an exciting player who can turn a game around. Tightening one's anus has never achieved anything.

Tends to stop the sh1te. You should try it.

Scully was never gonna live up to his paypacket

But ive seen him play a few times this year, and i see him gut running and hes gone back with the flight a few times, including one courageous mark against Melbourne

Watts has never done those things

Highlights tell an interesting story...

If I'd never seen him play before I'd have thought from those videos that he is a 40-50 goal a year forward.

Sadly that's all I could find. But shows he can do it.

There is nothing wrong with looking lackadaisical or laconic or even laxaconic... if you can get the ball. Bruce Doull, Pendlebury, Warren Dean, Rhys-Jones (when he wasn't snotting someone) all looked as if they were doing it easy, but they could or can all play.

I wonder how many people would've called it when WC and the Dees picked up their respective players that both would be in the gun for criticism at this point in their careers.

Me. I wanted Daniel Rich, though to be fair he's copped a fair bit of criticism himself.

just wait until cox retires, when he is number one two marks a game just won't cut it.

And I still can't work out why GWS payed such massive overs for such an underwhelming player as Scully.

Most in the footy world suspect Scully signed with them at the end of 2010. At that time, he was coming off 400+ disposals in his debut season and runner-up in the Rising Star. What GWS probably didn't bank on where his limitations then (skinny, average footskills, overhead marking, goal-kicking) would still be limitations 5 years down the track. Sometimes young players appear to have high ceilings at draft time simply don't end up improving much on their teenage years. Scully is an example of that, IMO.

I put it down to Sheedy seeking revenge on Melbourne. While as SylviaSaint says, $cully showed some promise, there is no way he was worth as much as they paid even if you didn't take into account all the reservations SS points to. Sheedy was out to make a statement and forgot the maxim that it is better to say nothing and be thought a fool etc.

Posted

He needs to do that against good opposition.

That Freo side was down on confidence and playing very poor football.

That Doggies side was hardly tough competition.

We needed that performance against the Saints, Suns and Swans, and not necessarily in front of goal. He doesn't do those things when we need it the most. Kicking a few nice goals when the team is up by 40 points is nothing more than the product of a downhill skier.

Yep, whereas Sheedy banged on at corporate functions about GWS' major signing who will be as good as Ablett Junior.

Thing about Scally what happens when he's contacted up there isno way the gws will want to pay him a million plus or even half a million he will need to take a huge pay cut.

So I could be anally retentive?

Agree with comments about Scully above.

Shame he didn't stay though. He messed with our players heads for a year and took some of our hopes away with him. Very disappointing that he left. Good to see that he's not much good at GWS.

All this guy can to it is slab the ball in the ruck well, the rest of his game is horrible.

But we made the mistake by pick a player who can actually kick, mark and read the play.

It about time!! I'm over the "why did Melbourne pick Watts over NIkNat" conversations.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
