Dangerfield is a gun. Obviously. We won't go this path though. It's not Roos' style. As people keep saying, we'll target gettable youngsters, with a few years under their belt.

I'm not talking against Treloar, just saying that the Shiel type are a rare breed, & if you find a really good one, grab them. As far as Treloar goes, I haven't watched them much over the last year & a bit, so not comparing Treloar to anyone.

But I saw Shiel in U-18's a couple of times, & saw him in his early AFL games, & was really impressed. He has the game, for big game breaking. Not flashy, but built around 'a take it on' & break thru, to make it happen, type of mentality, & game.

We have in the past kept being dazzled by the flashy shiny players, & have let the Hawks & other clubs take the power build players. look at Wines last year.

No knock on Toump, but we as a club need to focus on more 'Guts Grunt & Mental Toughness' in our recruits. we need 80/20... 80% Guts Grunt & Mental Toughness, 20% elite skill & finish.

We're still well short on for the 80%, but have started to make inroads now.

#edit: Kent?, Toumpas?, Watts?, Viney, Tyson, NJones, Vince, Michie?, Salem?, Grimes, Trengove, JKH?, maybe Riley? and Howe?.

Felt he was playing for himself today. Got a lot of the ball, but chipped sideways a lot of the time and then waited around for a fair bit of easy ball. I like him though. If Roos and co deem him the one to target, I'll be happy. Would prefer Treloar though, I think.

I think you are right on the mark here 'Adam'. I think there is a real danger with the GWS players at the moment that they are learning bad habits and racking up the possessions at the expense of the team. The longer they do this the harder it will be to turn around and the less value they will have, they are still being allowed to play junior football.

You never stop needing talent. That's where Geelong and Hawthorn have been so brilliant over the last decade. They keep topping up their talent and across all age brackets - they've balanced their lists really well. I concur though that for us, it'd be best to look for developed talent, with two to three years development under their belts. One of the aforementioned two would be an outstanding acquisition, but I think we need to keep topping up with mids with later picks too. I'd also target another big bloke, a KPP, with a third or fourth rounder, ala Tommy Mac.

I dont recall every second person sprouting Tyson as a trade last year but happy to be proven wrong. If they had Tyson had injuries but had shown his class with 25+ possession games in his first year. Have not seen anything like this from the other two.

You definitely knew what i meant when i was talking about talent..

I think we should try and develop our midfielders as they are incredibly promising and very young.. whereas we desperately need a KPP or two.

particularly players that tend to be under the radar, but who have shown all the required attributes. As BB mentioned most clubs over value first round draft picks so I think we might well trade in another Tyson type scenario. I'm not quite sure it will be for any of the names mentioned so far though.

Yep heard of that and have also heard of high picks being bust. What would be prepared to give for them? Both are high draft picks and neither have shown a hint of elite performance at AFL level (unlike Tyson had). Its possibly similar to Polec at Brisbane and I cant see them offloading them for a pick in the 20s which is what they are worth at most.

well if he's best 22 over there, but battling as you say, & they want to re-contract him. He's worth something, or they wouldn't bother, & wouldn't pick him in the seniors. So I assume he's still ontrack.

You come up with a lot of must targets and future guns you do know about list sizes and overlapping contracts, we can only take so many players and not to many of the same type
