Players to target at the end of the year

Recommended Posts

Pick 5 and Sam blease for o'Rourke and tommlinson

Horrible deal for GWS, but we'd be laughing.

I kind of want to fast forward to this off season, just to see who we pick up and then rewind to the present, to enjoy the rest of what should be a fascinating second half of the season.

I was interested when Tyson said last week that he always intended on returning to Victoria, and it just ended up happening sooner than he'd expected. I wonder how many GWS players have the same mindset.

Where did he say this?

Missed that one.

Brad Sewell anyone?

Seems like a Daniel Cross case.

Wouldn't be bad.

At the start of the year, I was on the Sewell bandwagon for our mids, but now we have cross jones & vince of our older brigade firing, & with cross looking like he could go a couple of years, I'd rather look at some other matures, we need to be able to bring some younger ones thru the rotations, especially next season.

RO'K has other strings to his bow, can go forward, strong overhead, etc.

also I think we should now be constraining our mid imports to the 22-26Yr age bracket, now we have Cross, Dawes, NJones, and the leadership vacuum has improved some.

I'd rate the NEAFL as the equivalent of the VFL development league.

Regardless of the quality of the league, 64 touches is a record breaking dominate display... If it was easy, then other swans players would have done this before...

Would be awesome if we could snare Tom... He was a father son i think? But that doesn't really mean much, if he isn't getting a game... didn't stop the swans drafting Josh Kennedy...

Personally I wouldn't give pick 5 for gaff, I don't rate him as a star just a good b grader, would give up our second rounder

Would give up this years pick for either Gaff or O'Rourke, but would rather the latter.

I would offer him a 3 or 4Yr Incentive $$$ based contract, to come home. I don't think we'd need give up P5 would we?

If we get into Rosa(UFA) & Gaff with some big numbers, we may be able to shake one from their Nest ? Or a mature running player from the Crows. Eagles & Crows are both knocking on the finals door, & we are almost in touching reach of them. If we can get a player off each, surely that would help close the gap just a smidge.

O'Rourke is out of contract, possibly wouldn't cost us anything

Hayden Ballentyne anyone? Very annoying player, but also very talented.

One of my favorite players, if he played for Collingwood we wouldn't hear the end of him, doubt Freo would get rid of him though.

Just read this on a Melbourne facebook fan page

Five 2012 draftees could be subject to an end of season bidding war, if News Limited reports are anything to go by.

The five players play for GWS and Sydney - and four of them are first round draft picks. They are:

Jonathan O'Rourke (#2 draft pick - GWS)
Lachlan Plowman (#3 draft pick - GWS)
Kristian Jaksch (#14 draft pick - GWS)
Dean Towers (#22 draft pick - Sydney)
Tim Membrey (#46 draft pick - Sydney)

Personally I would throw a third round draft pick at Membrey - keeping in mind that we may have to potentially use our second rounder on Billy Stretch + there is no way we're trading our first rounder. I was surprised Membrey fell to 46 and with Franklin, Tippett etc ahead of him he'll be starved for opportunity.

Meanwhile... Hogan/Dawes/Membrey is very appealing IMO.

Your thoughts about these prospects?

http://www.afl.com.au/news/2014-05-07/tyson-packs-a-punch-

"Eventually I was going to try to get home (to Melbourne) in my career. It obviously happened a little bit earlier than I thought it would have," Tyson said. "But 'Roosy' and the Melbourne staff were keen to have a meeting, and I was open-minded after a difficult year with injuries.

"For me, coming home I'm closer to my brothers and family and friends."

O'Rourke would be a good get. Quick young midfielder with good skills. Plays inside and outside, can burst from packs with the ball or be a good link man using his pace. Was keen on him when he was drafted. He's struggled at AFL level thus far due to injury and lack of fitness. Would be a good pick up if we could snare him cheap.

i would hope we would take someone like him with our first pick. But we do need classy hard running players with some speed. Is Brayshaw quick ?

Not particularly quick. Is working on his speed, but there's only so much you can gain. Endurance is very good.

Alot depends on if we lose frawley in terms of our trade assets 2 top 10 picks is a pretty big asset to tempt other sides with however

Looking at GWS I'd chase Patton and treloar for those picks and maybe a player as a sweetener

Treloar one of the best young mids around who would only get better under roosy and Patton a key forward as highly rated as Hogan both vic boys so a pay rise and a chance to come home a year early as their deals run out next year might tempt them

Orourke might be abit like Adams and caddy and attract the interest of the strong clubs, we could out bid them but I'd like a pick as well if we were talking about handing over a top 5 pick like the Tyson deal

Also doesn't get a lot of the ball.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
