Therein lies the problem. While Neitz never backed away from a scuffle, he rarely, if eve, was the instigator.

In the Hawks/Bombers fight as posted above, who's our Chance Bateman, our Richie Vandenberg?

We are too nice to start a brawl, and it takes a dogs act from the oposition for us to even consider retaliating, and even then it's no certainty that we will do it.

What about a team full of Rodney Grinters?

the line is the sand did work.

not on that day, but the words stung deep & long... & they learnt what it is to play for the Hawks.

they have come along way since that day but that fighting quality has remained & Dermie is the epitome of that fighting quality.

Look, I just don't think we are going to agree on this. It's convenient for Dermie to look back on it with rose coloured glasses since he instigated what was an embarrassing and unsuccessful incident, particularly in light of them getting spanked right after the brawl. It was more than four years and a good bit of tanking later that they won a flag.

I'm not denying that full-blown fisticuffs can have an emotional impact on a team. I just think its an extremely long bow to equate the line in the sand game with any kind of positive outcome for Hawthorn.

I hate Carlton. I won't eat in Lygon St.

Yuck. Who would? No self-respecting Italian ACTUALLY eats there.

galvanising the team.would just love it.

I think the supporters would like to see Mitch Robinson have his last tooth knocked out.

Tappy and Jetta are the only players with the requisite amount on c--t in them to do it.

the pedder has to have some dirty rotten hit from behind mongrel in him.

its all your fault anyway,if you had taken some of these youngsters under your wing and educated them at your local pub im sure we could have put some effort into a donnybrook on the weekend.

thats the trouble with our club,to many school teachers and not enough tradesmen running the joint.

so YOU biff, take the blame for years of substandardness.

Well said Jazz. About time Biffen is held accountable for his years of exploitation and immoral behaviour.

Possibly Jazza but without skinny jeans i cannot get in to the same pubs as this generation .

Actually, they have been brainwashed into thinking booze and violence are a bad thing.

and they don't touch carlton from the tap at the pubs I attend- only metrosexual imported beer.

What is the world coming to?

yes biffa,we will all have to buy a fiat in some fluro colour and drink beer we cant pronounce.

or we could recruit rory sloane, daniel merret, mumford and then at least show some spirit on a saturday{thursday, friday, monday, sunday evening}.

would be funny to watch roos telling JW how to ruff up an oppo player, and jack tut tutting and asking who has taken his manbag with the hair gel in it.

Hmm, get in a punch-on in the second quarter, lose by 90, have three required players miss the next couple of games with suspension, when we have no depth at all to cover them.

It's a plan!

I feel invigorated already! Galvanised in the true 'experiment making a dead frog jerk around randomly' sense.

so you think a team can go from easybeats giving up; to a premiership over night.

instill the fight back into the young Dog, but it will still take years for the dog to become the best, after starting to learn to fight again.

So the hawks took a flag after only 4 years, after becoming the doormat of the competition.

so, we do disagree Pantaloons

this mob need to learn to put up again.

Indeed Biff. Most of that imported stuff was brewed in Australia anyway and just had the foreign labels slapped on it. I still stick to Carlton and VB when drinking in Aussie pubs.

And what's the go with bloody skinny jeans? The perky teenage shop assistant tried to get me to wear a pair at Jay Jays and I felt like I was wearing a leotard.

Come down to Willy Biff and we will have a beer at the Bristol near North Williamstown station. All old and crusty tradies and no man with a beard, a sleeve tattoo,a pair of skinny jeans or coke bottle glasses in sight.

Yes, but the fight will return the Fans faith that lights are still burning, & they'll return in numbers for the core.

I guess we just have different perspectives on using violence to mask inadequacy. I guess it has worked for you in the past?

You nailed it, Robinson has the most punchable head in the AFL by a long margin with King a distant clear second.

I'll always be prepared to use my strengths, against others abuse, under the right circumstances, if they use their strengths for abuse, then I'll use mine.

whilst I'm not condoning grievous bodily harm, a little tango won't hurt.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
