Roosy recognised me from my efl days when I played against his brother and said gday. I mentioned I had my gear in the car and he asked if i wanted to put a few of the guys through their paces, like the old days.

Wattsy and I ventured away from the main group with Roosy kicking the ball long to centre half foward from the goal square where Jack and I starting on the goal line had to retreive the ball and slot it through the big sticks.

I hit Jack hard hip to hip putting him off balance and then kicked him in the ankle taking him down .Roosy told him to get on with it and Jack gave me a jumper punch to the throat and Roosy cracked a half smile. . We repeated the drill, this time I grabbed Jack front on by the jumper pulled him around and threw him down with a short right Jab to the jaw . Jack replied with Barry Hall esque choke hold befiiting his 91kg frame that almost had me seeing black.

With Jack fuming and his face a demon shade of red we repeated the drill. We both sprinted with Jack running ahead and taking the bouncing slippery ball beautifully with his left hand low to the ground turning back towards myself and launching into this sore and sorry clown who is typing this from his hospital bed in the severe trauma unit at the austin.

Jack kicked a goal and Roosy let him know he could play forward this week.

I trust you then repeated the exercise with James Frawley and got the same result.

Awesome, almost the exact thing happened to me but it involved a Jack Viney roundhouse and finished with Jakey Spencer taking the kick in.

OK I get it I will formally apologise to stuie.

I was wrong.

That was a good coffee by the way.

Haha don't worry MD, verbal jousting is what 'Land is for, maybe we should bring Watts in here to toughen him up?

Guys this is very sketchy and light on as i was on the job, but there's plenty of time to peek when in heavy traffic.

From what i could make out....

Training started early for a smaller group around 10ish. My understanding it was those involved in the clearance work at the center bounce as there was ball up ruck/tapping drills (positional work?) going on with a group in the middle. One player involved in the rucking side had heavy knee or thigh padding on. Couldn't make him out but looked too slim for Pencil. Tom McDonald lol?

About 10.30ish i noticed some regular kicking/passing drills happening with all players involved including the outs, Toump, Michie and Trengove.

On my last trip, about 11ish, there was definitely a scratch match on. Seemed like a full hit out and lasted till about 12.15ish or 12.30

Sorry for the lack of details, and the exact times are very loose, but that's as good as i could see from where i was.

Thanks RN.

Wow, that's "heavy traffic" even for that part of town! Or did you go around the block a few times??

Yup... Punt Rd rarely moves quickly. And i can meander a little. Not many argue as the bus is about 12 meters long and weighs just over 12 ton unladen. There's also a thing called a bus stop. And yes i have to do return trips past there about 30 minutes after each journey into city. Might be slow but not THAT slow Akum haha :)

Contested football, fast ball movement marking kicking under pressure, holding tackles, discipline, how not to turn the ball over (how to avoid this happening) and the importance of not giving away stupid free kicks early in games which gives the opposition the momentum from the first quarter( N Jones )

Sorry to carry on, but these are some things I hope they practiced during the week.

I understand that Dawes joined in all the drills, but looks to be lacking condition. Understandable of course, but hopefully a good sign for the not too distant future.

If it is just being underdone, as opposed to being in danger of reinjury, I'd stick him back in!

If they can play Tom McDonald who is severely underdone then they can play Dawes next week, McDonald can barely run and we all know he definitely cannot kick. Even Georgiou who kicks like a 5 year old still hits targets. If he can kick the football then he is already ahead of McDonald in terms of being useful to the side, bring him in.

Georgiou is number 7 in disposal efficiency for the club this year averaging 80%. If everyone could hit targets like him we'd be a lot better off.

    REDEEM by Meggs

How will Mick Stinear and his dwindling list of fit and available Demons respond to last week’s 65-point capitulation to the Bombers, the team’s biggest loss in history?   As a minimum he will expect genuine effort from all of his players when Melbourne takes on the GWS Giants at Ikon Park this Thursday.  Happily, the ground remains a favourite Melbourne venue of players and spectators alike and will provide an opportunity for the Demons to redeem themselves. Injuries to star play

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los
