James Strauss?

Would've been much happier seeing Strauss out there tonight than some of the duds we played.

I hope this kid will work out because he shows a lot of promise, and he's really well liked around the club (and he's a good bloke). All qualities Roos will want to foster.

What I don't get is the amount of people who look at his time on the list (5 injury riddled seasons, though forget the injuries, shouldn't have mentioned them) and are prepared to write him off.

Since he was in school he has been coached by two spectacularly unsuccessful coaches.

Give the kid (and others like him) the year to show Roos what he is made of. After this season, Roos will know whether or not he is worth persisting with.

(For the sake of this argument, I hope Roos keeps him, thoroughly agree he can be a damaging weapon on the attack from HBF and think that he is a better defender than most are giving him credit for)

My issue from day one with Strauss is that he doesn't get enough of the footy, sure he has good disposal but that isn't enough.

Fair enough for James to have a season under Roos and I hope we see improvement, not holding my breath.

IMO the difference between Strauss's game in 2014 vs the past was that he didn't panic when he had the ball. He looked up the ground and generally executed very well (one or two clangers) and with some vision. We got a taste of his kicking skills and what they might bring to the game. I thought it was something to really build on and I can picture Roosy in his ear about how he should back his kicking.

The rest of his game was more of the same, i.e. not good one on one and led to the footy.

Who do people rate higher, Clisby or Strauss?

neither at this stage, both with good upside, but with strauss a bit older & bigger.

at the moment I'd have grimes & Trenners possibly playing off halfback depending on mid rotations. I like Trenners setting up play from across half back.

you should add blease into the mix with clisby & strauss. as well as mitchie.

Strauss, I personally have Strauss in our back 6. When garland comes back then it makes it tougher because of his ability to play as a small defender.

Strauss Frawley Terlich

Grimes McDonald Dunn

At the moment is my preferred back 6, when garland gets back the situation changes.

But I prefer the ball being in the hands of Strauss and Dunn taking kick outs rather than Terlich, even though he kicked a few pearlers

I'm not negative. He has played a handful of senior games where he has been OK. His praccy form against the tigers was good.

Bottom line for him is that this is his year where he steps up and becomes a regular. If he continues in the same form and injury record of his previous seasons there wont be another season to follow. There are a few in that boat.

Pray tell, who is he going to replace in the backline, I have Frawley, Grimes, McD, Georgiou, Terlich, Dunn, Garland well before him. Unless one gets injured, he might get a chance, but even then I would be more inclined to go for someone like Clisby or Matt Jones as a small back replacement.

I think (hope) his opportunities will be very limited this year. For me, he is one we should move on, and trade if we can get anything for him, and I say that reluctantly as there have been far too many of our top twenty pick who we have not been developed properly who in my view if they had been handled by the current regime would have turned into serviceable footballers and would still be on our list. He is one, but I rather suspect others have moved past him, and we are better off to get value for him if there is any and trade for someone we need.

I don't know why people keep placing Georgiou in the side.......He is still a rookie and until someone is delisted or placed on the LTI list he is not permitted to play

Riely is training with the main group and I don't think he will be on the LTI list much longer....

just my 2 bobs worth....

And he will not be playing as a small defender, he is behind Frawley, McDonald, garland and Dunn for the tall defender role

Agreed the kid has had a very unlucky run with Injuries (broken leg/several shoulder problems).

Watts and Morton have been given plenty of time without injury. For me every young player has a clean slate under Roos .

He averaged around 22-25 disposals at Casey last year.

His problem is the transition to AFL.

Riley can't play till Rnd 3 at the earliest. Georgiou hasn't put a foot wrong in the past two NAB matches.

In fact I would say he has been the biggest surprise for me of all our recruits so far.

Roos will be loving how he goes about his footy and I will be amazed if he isn't upgraded at least for those first two matches

And to stay on topic, I would have Georgiou in the side before Strauss at this time

Georgiou and Strauss don't play the same role.

Gergiou is a direct replacement for Frawley, Garland, McDonald or Dunn.

Strauss is competing with Terlich, Clisby, Grimes and... Nicholson? God no.

Gergiou provides no drive or creativity off the HBF that Strauss does, and it's essential.

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak
