I hope we dont use this cap space to pay Frawley to stay. He is a tough defender though not worth more then 600k imo. I hope we use it as a warchest on the open market

I'd love Chip to stay - even with the total and utter crap thrown his way by our supporters - but what can we sell him? If the Hawks came round and offered him 500k for the next 3-4 years there is nothing we could do that would improve upon that offer.

The only thing that will keep him at the club is loyalty and the club, somehow, showing some light at the end of the tunnel.

Back on topic though - it would be an absolute shame if Clark retired from the game, although everything points in that direction. Clearly the big contract and the big injuries have weighed him down to the point where there may be no return. The two positives are, if he retires, that he can get himself right and happy again, and that we get a nice big chunk of salary cap space to hopefully sign up the kids and land a big fish or two over the next couple of years. It's something anyway.

The hole just keeps getting bigger and bigger for the MFC.

I look forward to the day that we come out the other side.

Sure hope MC doesn't retire but at the end of the day if that will help his situation then good luck to u mate.

Your time of field was brief but very exciting.

If Clark is willing to come forward and take a pay cut whilst on leave then I think it says a great lot about his character. AFL contracts are pretty tight and in the players favour, he'd probably have a chunk of accumulated sick leave from his career to date that he could take whilst on big coin and possible then turn up and give minimum effort and pocket most of his pay day.

If he restructures his deal to much less money (possible with incentives if he does return) then it will be good for everyone (except his manager).

If he retires then I'm not sure footy was the real problem. If he asks to be released from his deal ASAP with minimal pay out and then moves back to Perth with the possibility of AFL for Eagles or Dockers/WAFL footy in 2015 then again so be it.

Maybe he was a ticking time bomb and 4 years and more was too long to hope for him to stay fit and productive but after watching his half season in 2012 I refuse to believe he didn't enter in to his contract with perfect good faith to deliver.

If Clark needs to go home, then I wish him well..

Otherwise, I hope he digs deep and can play by years end.

Clark makes a big difference on a football field.

Clark is tough, strong, dominant and plays with passion, I wish him well.

One of the current players fathers told me on sunday that its simply because he is so damn frustrated at not getting fit to play, and he is getting paid all this money, it is doing his head in.

He can always give his money to charity? That

Might clear his head up real quick...

Take a pay cut? Ssshhhhhheeeettttt why would he? He signed a contract, he was injured at his work and continues to get injured at work, it is potentially the last (certainly the one and only big money) contract to play footy he'll ever get. I'd keep taking it too to provide for the family long term.

Id actually be surprised if he didnt retire.

I hope it turns out to not be a retirement. That would be more shattering news for the club, and the fact that this sort of thing just keeps on happening is just getting beyond a joke for us. Look at what has happened to the key forwards we've brought into the club for the last decade or more.

If he wants to go let him go. However do not pay over 650k for Frawley. Then keep the rest to go buy players at seasons end. Preferably not injury prone players like Dawes

The article may well be true.

But I just hate the journalistic license used by Robbo.

"Although it hasn't been officially discussed"

"Without trying to be melodramatic,it is understood"

"It is said that a return to footy is not forthcoming in his mind"

"The club would like nothing better than for him to return and if it meant sending him overseas for specialist treatment on his hamstring and calf muscles."

I like the last quote the best. If nothing has been officially discussed how can he state the last one.

The whole article is just full of Red Wine meanderings.

We must face up to reality and come to an arrangement so we can perform the necessary "housekeeping"

We need to remove this extremely negative distraction of having our highest paid player on a permanent long term injury list.

Unfortunately there is so much more complexity to Mitch than just a debilitating foot injury.

We must face up to our problems and deal with them. Thankfully P J is best at this.

Except that he appears to be quoting his Manager.

I would not question his character. When he first injured his ankle there were plenty of dark noises around that it could be career ending.

I used to be a big James Frawley fan.

His all Australian selection was 4 years ago, and lets face it, he hasnt come close to it since 2010.

If he continues to draw out contract talks, he will do himself more harm than good.

He was never a great user of the ball, but seems to be getting worse.

His lack of awareness of opposition players around him is quite possibly the worst in the comp.

I'd be dissapointed if Melbourne offer him a big salary. Dont get me wrong, i dont want him to go, but he really needs to work harder and get some of his best form back.

well I for one will be sad if Mitch retires. If its because of injury then I understand. I guess if Roos cant help or convince them then no one could.

What will really disappoint me if in a season or two he feels better and goes back into the system and ends up at another team. He still is only 26 after all.

If that is the case it can only be Fremantle. They seriously lack a big forward to complement an ageing Pavlich.

starting to get sick of this poor mitch thread if he is depressed about not being able to play so be it being injured is not the end of the world just ask Gumbleton ,shaun rehn David shwartz,Trent henchell, and so on these players overcome numerous serious injuries and played again. And after what I have been through the last 6 months being depressed because I cant play footy doesn't add up to me must be more to it

I wish MC all good health....

Will there ever be a time that things will go right @ the club....

We can pick or develop gun players!

We can't attract gun players!

We can't keep any & with free agency I can see bottom clubs becoming a revolving door!

I watched haw play last night & thinking why Frawley would stay?

Posted

So over the last few yrs we have lost for one reason or another Wonna, jurrah, MC, whose next???????? Who have I missed?

I not including free agency.

Very sad really.
