Training - Monday 2nd December, 2013

Even Viney can have a session where he isn't in top form. We've all had days like that! Doens't mean a thing, in my book.

Probably upset that he had a training session that didn't involve him planting someone into the dirt.

Great report, can't get to Casey and back for work, sounds very unViney like, unless like last year he has had the brakes put on him, tends to over train, saw him pulled up quite a few times last year

Pederson is unfairly criticised on here, never shirks at training, one of the 'body judges' decided he was overweight and that was it

Agree on Viney. But I disagree on Pedersen. He clearly looked underdone last year and his training was pretty sloppy as well. He's never going to look the most athletic guy which makes things worse but that should be motivation for him to be in the best shape possible. A guy of borderline talent, poor speed, poor endurance and not the tallest key position guy needs to be absolutely training the house down to play at AFL level. He seems miles ahead this year compared to last so he's getting praise.

^^^. Are you suggesting, unusually, that he is "training the house down"? So, if it doesn't work out for him will the coach say "didn't see that coming"?? -)

Yes he did and has been with the main group most of the time since his arrival.

Looks very assured with ball in hand and disposal is really good.

Considering what we paid and his string of injuries he looks the goods and will be a quality addition to our squad.

Thanks. Great acquisition and I am betting a rising star nomination this year. Freo had a brain fart letting him go.

It is what it is

Freo had a brain fart letting him go.

It's not like they didn't want to keep him.

Has anyone fortunate enough to have been able to get to the various training sessions witnessed a certain Christopher Dawes doing anything along the lines of football training? If so is he looking anything like being close to be able to play in a footy match??

Been to a few sessions and haven't even seen him on the track. I presume he's been in the gym.

You mean the footy matches that start in 4 months? That no-one is ready for yet, those footy matches?

CD has had a knee op/clean up, has been cycling, working on aerobic fitness - also presumably in the gym. Apparently ready to start running etc. from Xmas. Maybe see how he's travelling in February.

Michie isn't eligible for the rising star next year as he will be 22 before round one. By all accounts though, he is training well and will be in contention for the 22 from the word "go".

Gotta love that fuzzy feeling you get during the preseason where everyone is killing it on the track, they look heaps fitter than last year. Then BANG...round one comes along and [censored] that feeling up

Wow, auto-censor edits out 'i diot' and lets through the f-word.

Round 1 is usually a terrible day for Demon fans

SO much optimism when that ball bounces for the first time after a long summer.. 2 hours later we are stunned and realizing how [censored] we are yet again

Heres hoping Round 1, 2014 is a lot different. GO DEMONS :)

Over the last two years hh I think 2 hours is stretching it.

I would change to 30 minutes.

It's all good. I seem to be bloody excited again this year......wtf. Surely we can show some back bone

The round one effect is interesting.

I still remember round one in 2002. We played Hawthorn at the G and were coming off a poor season the year before in which we finished 11th. Most 'experts' predicted that we would slide even further in 2002.

We had a few key additions though: Powell back from the LTI; Vardy from the Crows and possibly some others (can't remember now). Our forward line looked good: Neita, Robbo, Green and Vardy. There was some cause for hope, but no one gave us much.

We then pumped the Hawks in round one. And it set up a great, though ultimately disappointing season.

Let's not underestimate the importance of beating the Saints in round one next year. In the context of our performance next season, this game is simply massive IMO.

We will have a really good indication of round 1 during the NAB cup, the sinking feeling for me started sinking the further we got into the NAB last year and the year before and the year before that…..etc.

Not with Roos' record at NAB Cups

Agreed.

I knew we were cooked for 2013 when we got spanked by Gold Coast in the final NAB cup game in Southport.

There are posts here not discussing training!

For shame...

Not with Roos' record at NAB Cups

You have a good point there.

…but it's not the results that have been the problem, even the ones we won it was the way we played. Just more of the same.

Going into 2007 we were tipped to be a top eight, even top four team. During the NAB Cup I expressed concern but was shouted down by the masses here as it was "only NAB Cup". Yes, results in the pre-season can be meaningless but you can take a lot out the style of play and little trends that start to emerge.
