Dean Bailey Diagnosed With Cancer

Featured Replies

Indefinite leave granted to Bails, he has been diagnosed with cancer.

We look back and I think many realise we made the wrong choice by ever letting him go, he had amazing strengths as a coach.
Past the football though, think I speak for everyone in saying hopefully he gets over it, and recovers 100%.

All the best Dean!

I wish him a strong fight against this dreaded disease.

Dean was the coach of the MFC the day that my father and I got to spend our last game together at the MCG before he passed away. That game was "the" game against Sydney, and it was up there with some of the best football I have seen any team play, let alone our team. While Dean obviously didn't pull on the boots and win the game for us, the fact that he had a team play such an exciting game, and the fact that it will always be the last game I went to with my Dad (who, like many on here, is the reason for my red and blue blood), I will never forget it, and will forever be grateful of Bails' role.

Fight this thing Bails, and all the best to his family during this process.

Poor guy, having a rough run of things since joining/leaving the dees.

Best wishes to a good guy.

Bugger... Wish him and his family the best.

Can't believe this.. this bloke does not deserve this. He is actually a top bloke and someone you could have a beer and a laugh with.

Terrible news

All the best Bails!! speedy recovery!

That just sucks. Poor guy hasnt had a great year. and now just weeks out before christmas he is hit with this. I hope he can get through it.

The amount of stress this bloke has endured has started to take its toll.

Thanks Mr Anderson.

Terrible news. That's two former coaches (ND being the other) that have had to step down from their roles due to health.

Hope they both get through it. Keep fighting.

Poor guy.

All the best mate

Ah come on.

What? Cancer is directly related to stress.

The tanking saga reignited by Anderson would've played a huge part on his condition.

Terrible news.

All the best to him and his family with this fight.

Dreadful news, I hope he recovers and wish him all the best.

I hope the MFC make a statement and pass on the best wishes of the club, I'm sure they will.

Very sad to hear it. Best wishes to Dean and his family.

Lousy news, all the very best for a full recovery Bails.

sorry mate, you are not entirely correct there, there is no evidence of stress being 'directly' linked to cancer, but stress does cause people to smoke or generally be unhealthy that could cause cancer, but either way, it's terrible news for Bails and his family. the Demon family should all show our support for the man.

And Genetics, diet, behaviour and environment don't?

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

When looking back at the disastrous end to the game, I find it a waste of time to concentrate on the final few moments when utter confusion reigned. Forget the 6-6-6 mess, the failure to mark the most dangerous man on the field, the inability to seal the game when opportunities presented themselves to Clayton Oliver, Harry Petty and Charlie Spargo, the vision of match winning players of recent weeks in Kozzy Pickett and Jake Melksham spending helpless minutes on the interchange bench and the powerlessness of seizing the opportunity to slow the tempo of the game down in those final moments.

  • CASEY: Sandringham

The Casey Demons rebounded from a sluggish start to manufacture a decisive win against Sandringham in the final showdown, culminating a quarter century of intense rivalry between the fluctuating alignments of teams affiliated with AFL clubs Melbourne and St Kilda, as the Saints and the Zebras prepare to forge independent paths in 2026. After conceding three of the first four goals of the match, the Demons went on a goal kicking rampage instigated by the winning ruck combination of Tom Campbell with 26 hitouts, 26 disposals and 13 clearances and his apprentice Will Verrall who contributed 20 hitouts. This gave first use of the ball to the likes of Jack Billings, Bayley Laurie, Riley Bonner and Koltyn Tholstrup who was impressive early. By the first break they had added seven goals and took a strong grip on the game. The Demons were well served up forward early by Mitch Hardie and, as the game progressed, Harry Sharp proved a menace with a five goal performance. Emerging young forwards Matthew Jefferson and Luker Kentfield kicked two each but the former let himself down with some poor kicking for goal.
Young draft talent Will Duursma showed the depth of his talent and looks well out of reach for Melbourne this year. Kalani White was used sparingly and had a brief but uneventful stint in the ruck.

The Demons return to the scene of the crime on Saturday to face the wooden spooners the Eagles at the Docklands. Who comes in and who goes out? Like moving deck chairs on the Titanic.

It's Game Day and there are only 5 games to go. Can the Demons find some consistency and form as they stagger towards the finish line of another uninspiring season?
