Master I'm the guy in the blue t-shirt who recently suffered a stroke and also a busted knee which has resulted in weight gain but please don't let facts get in the way of off hand smart ass comments. Only makes you come across as an up yourself [censored] jockey but thats only one mans view.

Sorry to hear that. Get well soon. I was in a bit of a bad mood earlier but also thought I'd provide a suggestion for all the crowd whilst out in such a nice day (or at least nice couple of hours when training was on the weather was top notch) that it is possible to watch training and be enjoying the sunshine). It was out of line so I apologise. Hoping in 2014 the team can bring us all a bit of good news.

Its ok I forgot many kids have finished school so should expect that kind of playground drivel for a while.

Good on you T 34 I am not sure where the Master was coming from. We all show up to support our team, I didn't know we all had to meet some physical aspiration set out by someone who calls himself the Master! For what it is worth I had achillies problems this year that has curtailed my tennis and running and as a result my weight has ballooned. Better not show up to training I suppose, at least until I can get my body back into shape.

Master seems to be the expert on everything... i even read him giving Jeremy Howe advice on how to mark the ball better? that is funny!

I think you speak for many T34. Great that you made the effort to get to training. Better than me, I didn't go, and I haven't had a stroke or busted knee. Motivates me to go soon. Good for you mate.

If you think Howe is a good mark when a defender blocks his run or engages in body contact then that's good for you. Personally for a guy who's going to play forward and be a marking target and is around 190cm he is a very poor mark in those circumstances. Especially as we know he has fantastic hands when going for a screamer or even when diving low for a mark.

I don't propose to teach Howe to mark a football when a defender bodies up to him. I'm not a football coach and whilst I could try I'm not sure I could set up good drills to teach this to Howe, but that doesn't mean I don't think that I'm 110% correct in saying that one on one marking is a flaw in Howe's game worth fixing. I also know that an absolute champion CHB in his day in Roos would probably understand something about taking away leaping forwards run and jump and therefore what a forward has to do to then win the contest.

Doing that should not be a prerequisite for showing some support.

Happy to hear thoughts on todays training but don't really need to hear about the world according to The Master.

Hope the achilles problems get sorted out.

Mate sorry to hear about the stroke. Hope its a healthy recovery from here on

And i think i speak for many that live up in the country and no access to training, that we really appreciate the training reports! I get a thrilm reading them and im sure many others do.

I know i have paid out a bit on Saty lately but one thing i cant question is this blokes dedication to going down and watching the boys train and giving us the inside info. Keel it going Saty.

Thanks to everyone else on the training reports.

FFS Why on earth do have to explain yourself? He's being absolutely obnoxious.

Thanks all for the reports - those of us who can't get there appreciate it.

Re the players urinating "in public": surely the club could afford 4 stakes and a few meters of shade cloth to improvise a urinal at the side of the oval. It could be moved each session to prevent grass damage (or overgrowth if one believes in the fertilizing benefits of urea). As one poster commented, when Caro next gets bored with her own company ( which I have to say would be pretty easy to do) she could come out with a "feature scoop" on "MFC players exposing themselves in public": it is pretty harmless & minor in the scheme of things but probably just not a good look.

Great idea, could also dig a hole so players can ay a dump btw drills and fill it back in after training.

Thanks for that, I will continue, as I said very thick skin, afraid a couple of posts went a bit too far there which is sad, when I keep reiterating we are all MFC supporters......would be nice though if that champion of 'egging on from the sidelines" Ben Hur offered up his apologies as well (not to me).....won't hold my breath

At least you didn't have the red top on pulled up to show half your fat gut.

Just left and the boys were still going. Due to a considerable night with a certain Mountain Goat last night I will keep this short because it's hurting to concentrate this much.

Happy to take questions.

Steam or Hightale?

At least you didn't have the red top on pulled up to show half your fat gut.

You do know your village is still looking for you?

stay classy there mate

as well as training reports, i will now expect regular urination reports

At least you didn't have the red top on pulled up to show half your fat gut.

Classic narcissistic response.

Just realised I didn't see Fitzy out on track at all either. No wonder the skill level was looking so good

Thanks for starting the thread McQueen.

Thanks for the info from Saty and a couple of others.

But after that Gee a few have turned this into what may be the low mark for 2013.

If you think Howe is a good mark when a defender blocks his run or engages in body contact then that's good for you. Personally for a guy who's going to play forward and be a marking target and is around 190cm he is a very poor mark in those circumstances. I also know that an absolute champion CHB in his day in Roos would probably understand something about taking away leaping forwards run and jump and therefore what a forward has to do to then win the contest.

I don't think there's one forward going around that would be able to mark a ball if a defender 'blocks their run'. You can't do much if a defender blocks your run when your eyes are at the ball coming in. Not only that, you're not allowed to do it. So really it's a positive that you're talking about such an issue. Teams know that he'll mark anything if he gets a jump at it, so if trying to block his run is their only rebuttal, watch the free kicks come our way.

He's not a stay at home forward so I think it's pointless to talk about him not being as strong one on one. If we kick to his advantage, he'll mark it every time. He was never built like a strong bodied full forward. He doesn't play like one.

If you kick the ball to an advantageous position to where Howe and he's man are, I'll back him 9/10 times to use his aerial ability and mark the ball. It's the same with Fyfe.

To date, I've seen very few occasions where Howe has needed to use his body strength to outmuscle his opponent to mark a ball. It's a non-issue. If we have players that are kicking it to the middle of Howe and a bigger bodied opponent, then it's the kicker that's the problem. If you're going to bring up Howe's lack of body strength in one on one contests you may as well bring up McKenzies lack of... most things?

To the people who went yesterday, was there any invitee's training with us yesterday??

Whos the tall guy next to Dan Nicholson???

  • REPORT: Port Adelaide

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.

The Demons simply did not take their opportunities when they presented themselves and ultimately when down by 25 points effectively ending their finals chances. Goal kicking practice during the Bye?
