Just ignore and move on if you don't like something on here. If it's offensive enough, the ohsoevil mods will remove it.

And we are going to have our injokes. As if there is anything wrong with that.

Haha exactly - if only the grammar/spelling Nazi's would realise their posts clogging up forums are infinitely more tiresome than someone inadvertently misspelling someone's name. I don't want to have to sift through pages of posts rehashing the same complaints and tired jokes, I want to read people's opinions on footy. I know we have a lot of wannabe comedians on here but for the most part the posts you think are so clever are actually pretty cringeworthy.

Anyway now that I've got that off my chest I wanted to actually say thanks for your observations Dees2014 it's something that has been a well known fact for some time that the training standards at MFC were equivalent to a VFL or suburban team. If the intensity has picked up as it should be expected to under our new FD then hopefully this translates to gameday performances. It is also Misson's much anticipated "third pre-season" with the club so hopefully we should start to see those results also however considering the amount of turnover on the list since he began who knows.

yep, some of us commented earlier in the year that misson's 3 rd pre would be the key to

injury recovery times and running out of games

lets hope the hype about 3 preseasons,to change the base fitness level is correct

I love training reports also.it keeps out of towners in touch

as for the youthful language used,at my age it took very little time to adjust to the terms used here

FWIW I had no issues with Nasher's post it was all the other rubbish that is the crap people shouldn't have to put up with when they're trying to share some info with the rest of us.

It's not that it's offensive, t's that it's monotonous and boring and makes Demonland a chore to read trying to get through multiple posts in multiple threads about Bleese's and Maloney's and what have you. I want to read about footy not people bitching back and forth about spelling mistakes. I haven't commented on it before because I don't want to contribute to the rubbish and I'll overlook cringeworthy "jokes" and comments about llama's but acting like a [censored] towards someone just trying to contribute because they misspelt someone's name is pathetic.

In true terms FCS is not an acronym but an initialism. An acronym needs to be pronounceable as a word. Eg QANTAS.

As all things in the English language this will probably change due to continuous misuse of the term.

Maybe you should have said, "as all things in any language."

For such an expert in languages, I'm sure you're aware that they are continuously evolving over time, with definitions of certain words vastly different to what they were as recent as a decade ago.

Maybe they should. Creating a new language (or in this case acronyms) is an elitist way to create a language for only those only in the know. A spelling mistake is just that. At least it's an attempt to use a universally except language every one can understand

Hardly elitist, just the way languages are used and naturally evolve over time.

It's fairly common knowledge on this forum, and I don't think anyone would hesitate to explain the meaning to those who aren't au fait.

A spelling mistake is often just sheer laziness, but I concede that it can also be due to dyslexia (very unlikely) or autoincorrect.

Still, you're being bloody precious about a light-hearted joke that wasn't even directed at you.

I'm happy for others to go through & point out my mistakes and make fun of them... because I don't take myself too seriously and I simply DGAS.

I swear I was the first to come up with MFCSS.

Sorry, "author unknown" to me, due to my failing memory.

Now that you say that, I think you are correct.

My apologies.

first world issues

True, but we're all living in the 1st world when we have the luxury of wasting time posting on a footy forum.

How inconsequential our lives have become...

Blame those that carry on & take themselves too seriously.

A simple "oops" or ignoring the playful banter would've seen a quick recovery.

Now the thread is a bunch of cross-whingeing from all quarters.

I thought we'd have delisted Daniel Breese by now.

We should delist and re- rookie him so we can take a PSD pick

Nasher making a joke about Daniel Breese is hardly worth all this...

Frankly, when I see someone write 'mute' instead of 'moot' I will correct them not because I am a patronising [censored], although I can be, but because I think it is nice to advise someone of a mistake they may make in a 'forum' more important than this.

And I skim over boring posts, I don't get angry at them...

PSD? there you go again being elitist.....sheesh

Nasher, i know you are a "big wig" on here, but I think these sorts of comments are unworthy of your elevated position. I hope you are happy with your ridicule.

I was making a light hearted joke about an ordinary* zero game player that was on our list a decade ago. I'm sorry if I offended you, it wasn't the intent. Typo away - though I am also a firm believer in proof reading one's post before posting it.

*Edit: or perhaps he may have been perennially injured? Hard to recall now. Baghdad Bob may recall, I think he may have had some relationship with him at the time (player sponsor perhaps?).

I swear I was the first to come up with MFCSS.

ill back you up on that.

All I can say is, it sounds like school is out !

Surely there are more important things worthy of comment than a typo and a tame, lame, joke to comment on. :)

As for the report thank you, it is appreciated, but all is in the eye of the beholder ;)

As for the Joke , I laughed for a brief second then moved on

I look forward to all the reports from all that want to post them, no matter what "Typos" it generates or what silly nonsicle whimsicle little jokes it engenders ;)

Surely there are more important things to discuss rather then how to get ones Knickers in a knot ;)

Firstly the post was intended to be tongue in cheek following on from people complaining about spelling mistakes and secondly I am not an expert in language and would never put myself forward as one.

As a Dees fan I've got my swagger back. I mean I've always been pretty happy go lucky but the excitement!

Whistled IAGOF as I buttered my toast this morning.

I already said I don't have a problem with Nasher's post he was just make a light-hearted pun.

As for advising people of mistakes, I often do this as well (not just in forums but real life) but often have to catch myself because I know that while some people see it as being "nice to advise someone of a mistake" others see it as annoying, arrogant, pompous and overall being a dick.

That's their problem. And probably why they are making mistakes they shouldn't.

  • GAMEDAY: West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have a chance to notch up their third consecutive win — something they haven’t done since Round 5, 2024. But to do it, they’ll need to exorcise the Demons of last year’s disastrous trip out West. Can the Dees continue their momentum, right the wrongs of that fateful clash, and take another step up the ladder on the road to redemption?

  • FEATURE: 1925

A hundred years ago today, on 2 May 1925, Melbourne kicked off the new season with a 47 point victory over St Kilda to take top place on the VFL ladder after the opening round of the new season.  Top place was a relatively unknown position for the team then known as the “Fuchsias.” They had finished last in 1923 and rose by only one place in the following year although the final home and away round heralded a promise of things to come when they surprised the eventual premiers Essendon. That victory set the stage for more improvement and it came rapidly. In this series, I will tell the story of how the 1925 season unfolded for the Melbourne Football Club and how it made the VFL finals for the first time in a decade on the way to the ultimate triumph a year later.

  • PREVIEW: West Coast

Saturday’s election night game in Perth between the West Coast Eagles and Melbourne represents 18th vs 15th which makes it a tough decision as to which party to favour. The Eagles have yet to break the ice under their new coach in Andrew McQualter who is the second understudy in a row to confront Demon Coach Simon Goodwin who was also winless until a fortnight ago. On that basis, many punters might be considering to go with the donkey vote but I’ve been assigned with the task of helping readers to come to a considered opinion on this matter of vital importance across the nation. It was almost a year ago that I wrote a preview here of the Demons’ away game against the Eagles (under the name William from Waalitj because it was Indigenous Round).  I issued a warning that it was a danger game, based on my local knowledge that the home team were no longer easybeats and that they possessed a wunderkind generational player in Harley Reid who was capable of producing stellar performances playing among men a decade and more older than he.  At the time, the Eagles already had two wins off the back of a couple of the young man’s masterclasses and they had recently given the Bombers a scare straight after their Anzac Day blockbuster draw against the then reigning premiers.

  • NON-MFC: Round 08

Round 08 of the 2025 AFL Season kicks off on Thursday with a must-win game for the Bombers to stay in touch with the top eight, while the struggling Roos seek a morale-boosting upset. Friday sees the Saints desperate for a win as well if they are to stay in finals contention and their opponents the Dockers will be eager to crack in to the Top 8 with a win on the road. Saturday kicks off with a pivotal clash for both sides asthe Bulldogs look to solidify their top-eight spot, while Port seeks to shake their pretender tag. Then the Crows will be looking to steady their topsy turvy season against a resurgent Blues looking to make it 4 wins on the trot. On Election Night a Blockbuster will see the ladder-leading Pies take on the Cats, who are keen to bounce back after a narrow loss. On Sunday the Sydney Derby promises fireworks as the Giants aim to cement their top-eight status, while the Swans fight to keep their season alive. The Hawks, celebrating their centenary, will be looking to easily account for the Tigers who are desperate to halt their slide. The Round concludes on Sunday Night with a top end of the table QClash with significant ladder implications; both Queensland teams are in scintillating form. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • REPORT: Richmond

The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourne’s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle. As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nation’s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.
