New Major Sponsor: Automotive Holdings Group (AHG)

Have I missed it or has the AFL website ignored the new sponsorship deal while picking up other parts of the press conference?

Probably becasue when other clubs sign up new sponsors, it's just an expectation of their supporters. When we sign them up, we wheel out marching bands because part of us didn't know if we'd get anyone.

I'm speechless. The last six months have been a whirlwind of positivity for the club.

Thank you Peter, Glenn and Paul....

What a ride!!!

I wonder if Glenn would mind changing his name to Mary?

Yeah, I would prefer a different back of jumper sponsor OR at worst, a different AHG logo on the back. Looks a bit too amateur just having the website on there.

That being said.... it's bloody fantastic to have the sponsorship well and truly in the bag before the season starts. There is no 2012 style scrambling for sponsors after our first one gave us an offer we couldn't refuse but gave us one that was too good to be true.

Great work PJ. The man is easily the best CEO I have seen at the MFC in my nearly 25 years of supporting the club.

Thank Glen Bratlett. PJ didn't have a lot to do with it.

Can we please get a leak of the dollars involved?

Anyone?

I have been told today it was actually 2.5m a year if that is more amenable to you!

Only $2m a year??

Roos and PJ have paid their way already.

The AFL has been very kind as well.

Looks like we may balance the books in 2014(handouts included).

The players will no doubt be more enthusiastic now that we have some off field leadership.

Indeed! While Roos is being paid handsomely it was always anticipated that his presence would attract both a higher level of sponsorship and membership - seems to be the case.

One of the things I loved about the press conference was when a journo asked about AD's plan to be an open and transparent organisation and detail AFL assistance packages as though it would be a problem PJ just reeled off the numbers. No need to wait for the AFL, these are the numbers boys no problem there. Pretty open and transparent I would think.

This deal is significantly more than Webjet and Opel.

With the NT deal, we are above mid table in sponsorship revenue.

A remarkable achievement coming off 2 (7?) years of disaster.

That is a fantastic achievement for where we are on the ladder and the economy generally.

As a matter of interest what are the "numbers"?

Yes, and the idiots wouldn't have clue of the situation.

And the money given to clubs is in the annual report so these idiot journos don't even know that.

We have three in the family TBF

I have an LPG Falcon. 140K's without a single complaint

My Daughter and son in law have different model Focus.

Daughters only problem is a blown power steering rack after 150K.

Mine is the first Ford after many years with numerous other brands

No complaints from this family

Both my private cars are Fords.

Although my Ford Escape is actually a Madza Tribute. Best car I have ever owned fom a mainteance perspective.

I will say nothing about the wifes AU2 Ute other then YUK!

My current work car is a Holden Captiva 7 LX. Its a well featured car for the price. It appears to me that Holden have the better cars at the moment. But I am no car makers fan boy so I will always try and get the best vehicle for the price, which ever make that may be at the time.

My worry is that the Wife fell in love with a Ford Festa on the week end.

I was trying to get her a Holden LOL

PJ said we got $1.45m from the AFL. Less than many others are still getting.

Exactly the reason I asked the question. I was interested whether that $1m & $0.45m was all we were getting in AFL handouts after reading the article in today's HUN -The AFL will be transparent over its financial aid to clubs.

It cites a total figure of $30.6 million distributed in 2012 to the 18 clubs from the club future fund. In other words, the average per club was $1.7m last year, an amount in excess of that total $1.45m grant we received recently from the AFL.

Even if this grant was on top of the normal distribution (which I suspect is the case), I would like to know what the other clubs are receiving given that so many officials from other clubs were shaking their heads in apparent disbelief when we made our application for assistance.

I'm willing to bet that GWS quietly gets a suitcase load more than we do to finance their extravagances and that if they haven't done so already Brisbane and St. Kilda will also put their hands out for more given their dire financial situations. Not to mention assistance regularly paid out to the Doggies and the Roos (the team not the coach).

I look forward to some transparency from the AFL on this issue. It would make a nice change.

    THE HUNTER by The Oracle

Something struck me as I sat on the couch watching the tragedy of North Melbourne’s attempt to beat Collingwood unfold on Sunday afternoon at the MCG.    It was three quarter time, the scoreboard had the Pies on 12.7.79, a respectable 63.16% in terms of goal kicking ratio. Meanwhile, the Roos’ 18.2.110 was off the charts at 90.00% shooting accuracy. I was thinking at the same time of Melbourne’s final score only six days before, a woeful 6.15.51 or 28.57% against Collingwood’s 14.5.89

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

    TURNAROUND by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons won their first game at home this year in the traditional King’s Birthday Weekend clash with Collingwood VFL on Sunday in a dramatic turnaround on recent form that breathed new life into the beleaguered club’s season. The Demons led from the start to record a 52-point victory. It was their highest score and biggest winning margin by far for the 2024 season. Under cloudy but calm conditions for Casey Fields, the home side, wearing the old Springvale guernsey as a mark of res

Once again inaccuracy and inefficiency going inside 50 rears it's ugly head as the Demons suffered their second loss on the trot and their fourth loss in five games as they go down to the Pies by 38 points on Kings Birthday at the MCG.

It's Game Day and the Demons are once again faced with a classic 8 point game against a traditional rival on King's Birthday at the MCG. A famous victory will see them reclaim a place in the Top 8 whereas a loss will be another blow for their finals credentials.

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag
