bing181 9,473 Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 Not true. We can delist them, we simply have to pay them out. Good luck with that.
Dees2014 2,377 Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 Who to? (Bearing in mind that Jolley is a free option to a club looking for rucking experience...........) Brisbane, given Maloney's presence. Neither of them have been as effective since they have not played together. It would be a cheap and very beneficial investment for them, particularly given brisbane's difficulties in keeping players. Are there any which we would be interested?
dee-luded 2,959 Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 Bail and Nicholson are not in my future plans I think reflected by the types/roles we just recruited. run & spread mid players who can play, with some size to them. but no smalls taken?
titan_uranus 25,252 Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 Not true. We can delist them, we simply have to pay them out. Given our TPP at the moment, it shouldn't be all that difficult to fit a payout or two into the cap if we need to. While many would say that it is a poor option to take given the club's fragile finances, I would say that carrying a complete and utter dud for another year is just as bad as it reduces our chances of success and the current admin are adamant that only with on-field success can the financial side become viable again. As much as we may dislike Pedersen, Strauss, Dunn, Byrnes and whoever else is contracted, I really don't think we're in any position at all to be paying out contracts by delisting contracted players. It's not good PR, for one, and it's not good financial management, for another. Pedersen isn't great but he provides some key position depth. Better throwing him to the wolves if need be than drafting some 18-year old skinny kid and having him destroyed by a Cloke or a Franklin.
dazzledavey36 56,287 Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 I think the club has to gve Bail a tap on the shoulder and say its time to think about your future health.

I think the Players Association frown down on that sort of thing if I recall. Plus it doesn't do your reputation as a club any good. I think if you can convince a player to retire for health reasons that would be better I.E. Bail.
old dee 24,082 Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 What's wrong with bails health?Concussion on numerous occasions tonatopia. Can't you remember 2010 and 2011? In 2011 he had weeks out after each occasion. The guy is seriously risking his long term health IMO
Pennant St Dee 13,443 Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 Good luck with that.St Kilda did it with a ruckman a few years back can't recall his name and Freo did it last season with Jack Anthony. It can and has been done

Pates 9,697 Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 Concussion on numerous occasions tonatopia. Can't you remember 2010 and 2011? In 2011 he had weeks out after each occasions. The guy is seriously risking his long term health IMO It really does concern me that I'd hear an interview with a coach, they'd say they would pick him week to week and then pull him out because he'd keep having symptoms. He could be Daniel Bell v2, but ultimately it is his decision to make. A lot more is coming out about long term effects of concussion, I just wonder what his brain will be like in 10-15 years time. How long is he contracted for?
GIRO 63 Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 Jetta will not be delisted, nico should be a little worried though

If you know someone is drunk you should try and persuade them from driving. you are correct Bell no. 2 is a possibility. Barring a big improvement in 2014 I think he is gone anyway.
P-man 13,367 Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 Nicho has to be gone. He's the only one after the initial delistings that I think absolutely has to go. Bail must be very close.

I think both are in danger, because the players we focused on recruiting will stop both of them from getting any games at all. maybe not even @ Casey. we owe it to our OH&S, to protect them. If Bail is deemed not fit to play, then they're is not much option to him. Nicho's had his chances.
monoccular 17,760 Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 I'm intrigued to know how you know Roos wanted to draft Gysberts? Maybe he meant THE Roos, who did, not Roos, who didn't I think the club has to gve Bail a tap on the shoulder and say its time to think about your future health. Just a query re another possibility. Does anyone know if Bail could be "pensioned off" in some kind of WorkCover payout arrangement due to his work related ill health? His continuing playing would surely present an OH&S risk to the club. Any workplace lawyers here?
Roger Mellie 4,205 Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 Bail has been cleared to play and has played since his issues with concussion. You cant therefore just flick him using concussion as an excuse. You cant just get rid of contracted players. In the very rare instance that you do, there's a good or acceptable reason - eg Nathan Carroll. If you pay out contracts of spuds: 1) The Players' Association would be up in arms 2) No player manager/agent would want to deal with Melbourne as they don't honour their contracts 3) Players would not want to come to MFC (even more so than usual) 4) We would have to answer to the AFL and explain why, in our parlous financial state, we felt in any position to pay out contracted players for Pick 70 odd (etc) in the draft IT WONT HAPPEN SO LETS DROP IT
InVINCEable 358 Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 Delist out of contract players, don't step on a player when they are still contracted.

Interesting that no one else has commented on this one. The Moloney link does give it some cred.............. but I'm not sure he fits in alongside Leeunberger
DemonFrog 1,359 Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 Bail is contracted P-Man Why not Jetta? On a good day he is average. With performances like that we should make Jetta Captain then.

If my boss paid me next year's wage and booted me, I'd be stoked.
Pitchy 196 Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 Was surprised to learn that in the NFL the contracts can be torn up at any point. You don't perform you can be sacked that day. Contract is over, no more money. Super harsh on the players but geez it keeps them desperate.
